The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Not a good day of measurements for Bain, Woods, Howell, and Reese. I knew Bain and Howell had short arms. Bains arm measurement is essentially the same measurement BLESTO gave, so no surprise, but I was wondering if maybe get over 31 inches. I knew Howell was going to be short--under 32 inches, but expected him to be like at 31 or 31 and a little bit of change so it was a mild surprise. I thought Reese would be around 33.5 as I had heard he was likely between 33 and 34 inches so 32.5 surprised me. I hadn't heard much talk of Woods measurements so that is new to me.
 
I'm starting to really like Styles...

So long as he arrives violently.

Not sure if you are talking about Bain here. The problem is he is too small to play inside at the NFL level. And his short arms are a serious problem on the outside. The average NFL tackle has over 34 and half inch arms. That 4 inches is a huge advantage for them over him.

Banks is one of those guys that you look at and say, what potential this guy has. He is a monster, if he could just put it all together. I am not sure he is worth the risk/reward unless he was a later round pick
 
I don't think that many if not any of our fans would straight up be disgusted by us picking any of the top guys. It may not be your choice and you may not even like him that much but there is none of the top guys that you would be sick over us choosing them.

Therefore, worst case scenario with Mendoza going #1 and 5 other picks before us, we will get at least one of Bain, Reese, Bailey, Downs, Love, or Tate. One of them will automatically be there.

This is not even including if an O-lineman or 2 go which is highly likely and it's not including other guys like Styles, Tyson, Delane who others may love or be OK with. Still may trade down and get someone who the board likes but worst case, one of the big names will be there so no worries in that regard.
 
I'm still pretty high on Tyson for one specific reason. He has a hammy now which is worrisome but that's more of something that's huge in-season. In the off-season, you should be able take your time, go at a slow pace, and fully heal.

His major injuries in tearing his knee and breaking his collarbone, we've seen him come back better than ever. People act like we don't know if he'll ever be the same when he's shown that he's still elite.

There's guys in the pros right now who have recent injuries, who we haven't seen play yet or we have seen and they don't look nearly as good pre injury. I'd take him before spending big money on guys like Hill, Ayuik, etc
 
Reflecting on Bain’s arm length: I get if he’s lower or off of boards because of it. I can’t even argue against it. I doubt he is on Washington’s wish list at this point and I can’t even be upset about it.

For the sake of Washington conversation I am going to stop mentioning him as a consideration. Knowing what AP likes in edges , Bain was already a long shot. Now he is almost exactly opposite of what he wants.

Having said that I am completely unafraid to stand on the hill that I believe that Rueben Bain, Jr is going to be a very good to great NFL football player and he is going to make people realize that although the mean exists for a reason, it isn’t the only thing.

Anyways, moving on.

The edges give me no reason to be excited. Of them, I prefer Reese. He’s probably borderline for Peter’s as far as what he values.

I have no interest in any other edges in the top 10.

This just brings me further into the Love, Tate, Styles and Downs hope cycle.

Yes, to Bain. Yes, that 4 inches is huge disadvantage for him, but I would still take him at 7 because I feel his motor will minimize that disadvantage.

Just about. Reese is a little taller and a little wider, but they're close. Van Ginkel didn't run the 40, but he did both jumps and both agility drills and did great. Hopefully Reese does those too.

Too many top prospects have too many warts in this draft class. Of who will likely be there at #7, it's just Love for me. Maaaaaybe Styles, but I want to look at his tape more.

I want to really get a feel for how Styles navigates traffic in the box. So far he's not quite a true Blue Chip for me, but that could change. Last tape watching I did of him I liked his fluidity flipping hips to chase guys going down the seam. He's also 6'5...so that should be a huge boost in coverage out of the LB position. Makes me think he would really fit this defensive scheme in a way that most LB wouldn't.

Free Agency can always throw a wrench into the draft options, but so far that's who I've got.
 
Of the top edges I prefer Reese, for me he is the most versatile of the top 3.

It's funny, Styles is almost getting overhyped at this stage.
 
I’m out on Bain.

Apparently in the last 10 NFL draft classes, only ONE defense linemen recorded a sack that has less than 31” arms.
