This remains a multi-year rebuild. For next year, the only thing that matters is protecting JD5. We must approach the defense as a process, won't get fixed this offseason.
Why can't they effort to fix both? They emphasized protecting JD last off-season. They know they need to get him some more legit weapons but the D needs an infusion of talent as well...and not one year contract talent either. They all need to be building block hires and are on multi year deals. To fix the roster isn't the same as saying a roster is complete...although I am not sure a build is ever truly complete

Right now TE is the biggest need, they literally do not have a player who can be counted on in the passing game. But that's not the most critical fix as I believe that can be done fairly easily in free agency.

Honestly, I'm not sure how this is a question.

Edge - this team needs a stud pass rusher. Honestly, this team needs a "Jayden Daniels" on the defensive side of the ball, a force-multipler.

If Peters goes offense at #7, I may barf on the spot. At the very least I will feel like I did when we picked Landry in the Top 10 right after picking Taylor and taking Payne in the first round just a year after taking Allen.

Assume Bailey and Bain are gone. Are you that locked in that it has to be edge that Reese is a no brainer? I’m close on Reese.

Assume all three are gone. Now what? Reach for whatever is there?

I just don’t think the draft can be so static for what we pick. I can see scenarios where it’s a safety, RB, edge, receiver, OT, LB… and it makes sense.

The question wasn't who do you take at #7, KDawg. The question was what position is the biggest need.

Honestly, there are 4-5 guys I'd be thrilled with at #7. In no particular order - Bain, Bailey, Reese (might be my perferred but I think he will be gone), Styles, and Downs would all make me happy.

However, Boone said name the single biggest position of need, so I did. Doesn't mean other guys wouldn't be good picks or improve us.

Why isn't long snapper an option?

I was asking because you said if we go offense at 7 you’d barf.

That was the only thing that led me to the question I asked :)

I'm not saying we don't need some things on offense. We do. That isn't a complete unit by any means.

However, a very real argument can be made for the offense already having the top 5 or 6 players on the team - Daniels, McLaurin, Tunsil, Cosmi, Samuels (assuming he is resigned)

I don't advocate reaching for a lesser talent if all the top Edge guys are gone at #7. We need a difference maker there though.

We bash Ron a lot but that was one of his better picks. Just look at the technique here. Perfect set up! You have to pounce when a guy like that falls to you.

If Blough really is cut from the Ben Johnson cloth, then having a versatile RB (Love) would be a huge factor in the offense. Additionally, look for Ben Sinnott to move to FB/HB. I'm calling it right here. Dude is going to explode in a Chris Cooley type role.

I put Cheeseman in search and got this out; vaguely remembered issues. Hard to believe it didn't pan out. I can imagine RR was meeting CC daily, telling him "Don't screw this up man, they are lighting me up for this decision." Cheese doesn't deal with intense pressure well.

Agree. But until you have one you don’t have one and we don’t have one so we need one.

That was an intentional run-on sentence

Out of curiosity I googled cheesman to see if he caught on anywhere.

He's such a non factor his Wikipedia still says he plays for us and its 2023.

Unbelievable how bad Rivera was as a GM.
