Depends on a lot. The big thing is what you do afterwards. Incidents happen. Repeats are a pattern. Fletcher has been stand up thus far so I suspect the Indiana guy said something heinous. But we’ll see.

It also depends on the player and how good they are--I am way more accepting of Trent Williams doing it than Darone Payne 🤣

What’s odd about Fletcher is his touchdown celebration was “Jesus Loves You” in ASL, he was sportsmanlike with the postgame handshake with Mendoza, and he generally has a good reputation. So, the punch was a bit incongruent.

It was a hard fought game, emotions were high, and who knows what was said (rumor is something about his family), but it is a bad look to lose your temper after a loss. Hopefully it is a learning experience for him.

As it relates to the draft, I do want this organization to loosen up on "character." I think poor "football character" such as the regular loafing we see by Payne, Pickens and others around the league is unacceptable.

However, if a guy has an off field incident or two that causes his stock to go down but has strong football character, is talented and is well liked around the locker room, take a bet, especially on Day 3.

For an example of where it's worked for us, look no further than CRod. He was suspended at Kentucky for a DUI and filing inaccurate time cards for a job tied to UK. McCloughan had a 2nd round grade on him and he fell to us in the 6th. Since he's been here, the guy has turned into a good back who worked his ass off to get to where he is now.
 
CRod was drafted like 7 years after McCloughan was fired, are you thinking of someone else? I don’t remember 2nd round grades for CRod from anyone I followed at the time

McCloughan still runs a scouting service and has several NFL teams as clients. He was on Sheehan after that draft and I remember him saying he had given CRod a 2nd round grade. He said Frank Gore looked at him too and liked him as well
 


Fusue quote tweet put this on my feed, interesting thread but this TE stood out to me in particular, production is not impressive but impressive movement skills and mid-round projection at the highest. Which given all our needs is appealing

Barton shows potential as a later round LB that could develop into a starter, he has lots of traits.
It will be interesting to see what the new DC will think of our existing young LBs. I can see a world where they won't want Kaho or Medrano
I sure hope our new D staff can develop young talent better than the last group...who may just not have been given the opportunity because they always wanted the vets playing
 
I really want David Bailey, but with the Blough hiring, and Jayden having a down year last year, it really makes me wonder if Love would be the best pick.

Blough has experiences with elite RB’s and marrying the run and passing game from his time with the lions. What would make teams have to respect play action more than Love?

And with the whole team learning new terminology, passing concepts a whole new playbook, it would be able to lean on an elite running game, and to have a guy that can turn ordinary plays into chunk plays. I feel like we rarely have that.

I'm beginning to think they are dangling the 7th pick carrot in front of potential DC's.

I don't think Bailey reaches 7 but the idea of teaming him with our other current D front could be worthy nuggets to sway a new DC away from other opportunity

I haven’t heard that term used, but I’m wondering if that’s what they consider the post-rookie wage scale draft era? That’s when positional value began carrying even more weight at the top of the draft due to the discounted rookie contracts. There were many years where a Safety drafted in the top-10 would be paid nearly as much as a pro bowler on the open market because of that.
 
I think Bain has worked his way into the top 5, I want Bailey but pass rushers usually don't make it to 7. I think the pick comes down to Downs, who I am on board with, Love or a WR.

Huge Irish fan here, and Jadarian Price was always breaking downhill runs. Love's game speaks for itself but tried to get too cute sometimes trying to hurdle everyone instead of just making the cut. Price doesn't do that. I'd be good with either one.
