I came here specifically to express this same idea. I would be happier with Flores, or McDermott, but McDermott is almost certainly getting a HC gig. Williams is now relegated to DC at Middle Tennessee State? Why? He's a top 10 DC in the league if he comes back again, I think.

I like all, would lean hard to sign Scott. A bonus to signing him would be getting a inside track on the numerous Seahawk DB's that are scheduled to be FA's

Williams is no longer working at MTS, he said it was only a 1 year gig. He is living in Missouri and taking care of his parents so he is readily available. 🙂

HC Candidates/Long Shots
1. Flores/McDermott

Everyone else:
2. Karl Scott
3. Gregg

Williams would be great here, as others have noted. Why? Well, he probably just wants another shot. He was great his first stint. Being under Quinn won’t bother him even if he turns out to be a lame duck, because he just needs a chance. Obviously he knows the game. He’s got a toughness we need. And he’s been successful.

I’m almost to the point where if it’s not these guys it’s a loss. But there are a couple of other: “okay, not bad” moves:

Gannon, Dennard, Graham

Yeah even in his last stint not long ago with the jets they had a good defense.
He got fired because of that blitz call on the hail mary but that was a big time scapegoat firing.
Their offense sucked, they were 0-11 and who cares if he makes a call that loses a game at that point.
Everywhere he's been hes had great defenses and quite often in bad situations where you'd normally be making excuses for why the defense was bad.

I'd be open to a return.
 
Would think McDermott would get other Head Coaching opps. But if not go get him to be our DC. The guy is a hell of a coach.

If by some miracle he doesn't get a head coaching gig this year my money is on him taking a year off.
He's grossly overqualified to be Quinns defensive coordinator and he knows that and it will prevent him from taking the job.

Crazier things have happened but its highly unlikely.

I get the sense he has been blacklisted from the NFL after he ran that crazy zero blitz as Jets DC against the Raiders and was fired the next day.

Quite a fall to fall from that perch to DC Defenders DC

It does have that vibe, first the bounty gate stuff then that blitz and now hes working way below what he had in the past.

Well it only takes one team.

That was 5 years ago. I'm curious how many coaches come back after 5+ years and are successful?

Yeah i guess 5 years from the nfl is a pretty long time but my first reaction to hearing his name was that he was a somebody in this league 20 plus years ago and then when I thought about it hasn't been that long since he's lead good defenses in the nfl.
 
I dunno about Gregg. 5 years is a long time for no team to come after you. It’s not like he was retired, he just couldn’t get a job. I’d rather an up and comer like Scott assuming we can’t get one of Flores and McDermott.
 
This discussion of McDermott as DC here is ridiculous. He’s probably the top HC candidate now available.

We should consider Bobby Babich, his DC, for the DC role here though.
 
If Flores does not get a HC job and decides to leave Minnesota…give me 3 reasons why he should pick Washington over Dallas.
