Not necessarily Commanders related, but how funny is it that Dante Moore chose to go back to Oregon rather than be drafted by the Jets? :ROFLMAO:

Moore wasn’t ready. Too few career starts and too erratic. He would have failed in most places in the NFL.

Ty Simpson is similar. But he looks like he’s going to enter the draft. It’s a mistake but it is what it is

From a talent level and floor standpoint, Bailey should be top 5 in a draft as light at the top of this. As philibusters pointed out from one of those podcast summaries is that Bailey needs to be in a certain type of odd front scheme to not be a liability against the run, at least as he enters the league. That might be the element that drops him to us.

I'm guessing Bain suffers from the same as he is either a 4-3 end or a 4-3 3 tech but probably not a great 3-4 EDGE. It feels like the other non QBs in the top 10 are fairly scheme agnostic, even Reese who could play 3-4 EDGE or offball LB or offball LB in a 4-3

I think there is a legit shot too Bailey drops to 7, also factoring the teams picking ahead of them.

Some think that Harbaugh is so in love with what Hamilton has provided Baltimore that he won't be able to resist Downs. But will see. I can also see NY going O line or WR.
 
I can see Downs, but they just sunk a bunch of money into Holland

Well they'll most likely be picking in that range again looking for a qb. Joke is on him.
 
Hot take, I don’t think Moore would’ve gone at #2, I don’t think it was strictly about avoiding the Jets because I don’t think by the end of the process he would’ve gone that high. And I bet that’s the feedback he got. QB premium, blah blah I know. I think even the stupid teams are learning to be wary of these developmental QB’s, no matter the tools.

You know me, SIP. I only spend our #7 on Bailey 1st (if available) and Downs 2nd (if available). I know you like others at #7 but those are the only ones I use the pick on. If both are gone, I trade down no later than #13, preferably #10 or #11.
 
There are really so few safeties drafted that high that turn out to be change makers in the NFL.

It's just not a position where you handle the ball that much and are very dependent on the talent around you to mesh in coverages, etc.

Sean Taylor, Derwin James, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed - yes, there have been a FEW safeties that altered an offensive strategy/gameplan by stepping on the field, but they are few and far between.

And in that Notre Dame game he was OK not bad. Just Leonard Moore fared well in that matchup. But it wasn't like for example some of those games where Terry dissapears against top corners.

Interestingly enough, I have read a number of player profiles and projections that compare Downs to some of the players you list. Much of it is about the incredible speed that he processes what's in front of him. To top that is how quickly he can communicate what he sees and how to adjust to the rest of the defensive players.

I agree. But it really hurts us for the draft. And makes winning that worthless game at the end of the season even more infuriating.
