The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

There are rumors that Ty Simpson is being offered up to 6.5 mil to go back to school. I’m not a betting man but Miami has been kinda left in the cold on QB with Raiola to Oregon and Leavitt to LSU… so I’m willing to bet Miami is in on him.

Anyways, if that’s the case it is the true duality of fandom for me. If Miami gets him that is great news. If anyone else gets him it’s all bad. That is yet another QB that may not be in the class.

IF that happens it makes the Eagles win even worse…

Oh I am not saying Howell is not a good player. I prefer Bailey by a bit. I would be ecstatic if Bailey fell to 7 for us, I'd jump at him.

I see Howell more like 15-20ish which is better than I initially thought of him. He does have power and is a better edge than some of the more highly promoted ones.
 
With limited picks and and not the strongest draft class in the world what do you think our highest priority is?

WR?
Edge?
Other?

I know this kind of depends on free agency but would like to get everybody's feel
 
I am comfortable with Peters moving down OR keeping the #7 pick depending upon how the draft board falls.

At the same time I do think as Belichick once said that the more picks you have the more darts you have for the dartboard.

So, in that respect I would like to see the team try and trade Daron Payne for perhaps a middle round pick and generate additional selections from trades within rounds on Day 2 or 3.

I think it would be pass rusher and WR, but depends heavily on who’s available, evaluations, and FA. Personally, I’m cool with Love and Downs if we don’t target those positions.
 
Two things I want to see from our defensive picks are one the selection of guys that have fire in their bellies and come in with an aggressive mindset and vocal demeanor. Too many players on this defense look passive as if they hold no internal love for the game and competition and are only out there because they have the athleticism to get drafted.

The second thing is DURABILITY. You can't handicap injuries but the one thing you CAN do is NOT use a top draft pick on a guy that has injury issues coming out of college.

I want to see healthy players come to the camera and talk about how much they are looking forward to coming to DC :cheers:

Great memory, I have a kid who goes to school there. I've watched most of their games including one live last season.

He and Kelly at edge IMO were good-- Lawrence is better. I don't think Kelly is coming out this season. They were their best players along with Montgomry and Nixon at RB.

Lawrence has some potential, productive 3 seasons in a row. PFF has him at 250. Some on the internet have him at 260. To me he looks 260 but will see. Long arms, decent bend, good array of pass rushing moves. Nothing killer but solid. He is supposed to be a good dude in the locker room, too.

East Shrine game will see him showcased.

That's primarily what I have read and seen of him. He has lot of tools like great motor, fast get off, size and 35" (Bains dream) arms for coaches to work with if a later round selection.
 
Let's say we trade down and end up with another 45 pick (I assume we would have to give up our 3rd to get that). Understanding the overall depth of this draft, what are the position groups that are deep enough where the guy you take at #42 has a realistic chance to become a Pro Bowler? Not interested in specific prospects but more position groups as the depth, in theory, in some groups will drop some guys to the 2nd round
 
More and more, I'm turning against trading down. If this really is a weak draft do we want watered down picks? Hopefully, we can land a stud at 7. We need a few more elite players. Right now our only ones are Daniels and Tunsil.

Now, if we don't think there's dynamite at 7 then find someone to trade down because we can use more good players, too. But really, if we can land a great one, I think the ripple effect might outshine 2 goods.

If they can trade down 4 or less- I am fine; otherwise we need to pick. At worst, we get a good receiver.

I've only looked at Edge, RB, WR and the DT group and keep waffling on whether or not to keep going but that's the vibe I am getting as well, this is not an elite class but likely good overall. I think the age of our roster may necessitate at least one trade down though.

I would do it if Bailey isn’t there. Love, Downs, Lemon, Delane…doesn’t really matter

I think taking Delane would be bad given all the draft capital we have spent on corners (with little return) but he is probably a future Pro Bowler. He is glue
 
There's so many factors this year to consider with so many players this year it's hard to think about trade down scenarios.

Do Tyson's medicals check out. What do they think of Tate and what kind of 40 does he run? What are their thoughts on Bain; is he legit as an edge in the NFL or a bit more of a tweener, and how does that fit in with our new DC's system? What are their thoughts on Reese?

Who do we sign in FA? Any major holes left (probably), and if so, how many?

Like, if you like all of Tyson/Tate/Bailey/Bain/Reese, and assuming Moore doesn't go back to school AND gets drafted top 2, then someone you like from that group will be there at 7. But I can find faults with basically everyone but Bailey without too much difficulty. And that's not even including Downs/Love into the equation due to positional value issues.

If he lasted that long, for sure. I don't see him surviving the 2nd round

I will offer Ty Simpson $5 to declare for the draft, and offer the Cardinals another $5 to take him ahead of us.

Also if the Giants do hire Harbaugh, hopefully they make like his brother and select an OL in the first.
