Now why on earth would they do that? I would think you would hire an OC and let him decide if any of the position coaches are guys he wants to keep?

That just seems odd. I guess ultimately, if he was a goner with a new OC anyway, they may be doing him a favor... but still seems odd.

Regardless of who the the next OC is, I certainly hope they can teach the QB's how to get rid of the ball without getting an "Intentional Grounding" flag.

That became embarrassing.

That and teach jayden not to run out of bounds 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
If you're behind the line of scrimmage just launch the ball out of bounds before you step out.
I cant tell you how many sacks my fantasy team has taken over the last two years that way but it got nauseating.

If your talking about OL Bobby Johnson, he was fired when Daboll was HC of the Giants as well before he was hired here. Johnson's firing a connection to Daboll as our new OC?

P.S. We know how teams work. I'd think that Brian Johnson has already been interviewed for the OC position. Just a guess on my part.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that. It just seems weird to start firing 'select' position coaches when a new OC (or DC) is obviously coming in.

Absolutely. I'm behind whatever decision is made but I'm not all that super thrilled about Daboll. David Blough who is our assistant quarterbacks coach is drawing interest as the OC candidate from the Lions. Maybe AP/DQ should give him serious consideration. At least interview him. Thoughts?

Something in the works???

I read at least one article that said that Blough is possibly thought to be in the mold of Kingsbury to some degree now. I'm not so sure. Sometimes guys get influenced, but they don't fall into that exact way; however...

I think DQ better be careful. I think he is sending a clear message that he wants the philosophy to be a certain way; I don't really think it looks that great that his initial hire wasn't in line with that philosophy. It would be really awkward if he hired another OC who wasn't.

Although that is pretty much exactly what Rivera did! Rivera had Scott for 3 years, and then when they finally let him go they kept talking about how running would be their identity, and then hired EB. We know how that turned out. To me, it was like, what did you even ask during interviews? If anything remotely similar plays out here, I will have the same question coupled with disbelief. It doesn't seem all that hard to figure out in the interviews.

I find it kind of interesting that he was blocked by us being able to speak to the Jets about a position last year with Aaron Glenn as HC. We wait and watch.

Definitely. I think that may have been dictated more by Kliff than anyone else though. Just a hunch.

My guess is they won't move mountains to keep Blough or maybe much of anyone on the staff. To me, letting Johnson go kind of signifies that they have some specific things in mind. If they would give Blough a chance, it will almost assuredly come with heavy caveats through arrangements with him. They have something specific in mind, so they need to believe Blough will deliver. I guess yes, if that played out - sure.

My guess is Blough my end up in Detroit, but who knows, maybe he has settled down nicely in the DC area.

If they feel that there's a chance he would call plays like Kliff (assuming that some of the reporting is accurate), or if they truly have something specific in mind, they will just let him walk without a second thought though.

Blough was an assistant QB coach until one month ago. He’s never called plays, he’s never even been someone’s boss. I don’t care how much potential he is perceived as having around the league, Godspeed to anyone who gives him a playcalling job right now.

Almost as laughable as Webb getting a HC interview in Vegas. Allbright reporting that may actually be a sneaky way for them to check him out as an OC candidate alongside a potential Vance HC hire, and even that is risky.

Blough might turn out to be all that and a bag of chips but no way imo does Quinn take that chance with his job on the line.

I agree about Blough and DQ's job security. He has to hit on the next DC and OC. Newmark knows Blough better than any in our F.O.

The decision to part ways with Kliff Kingsbury is a tough one for me.

I genuinely admired the guy. By every account, he was a grinder—16-hour days, week after week, throughout the season. Whatever his flaws, lack of effort was never one of them. He wasn’t trying to be cool, wasn’t chasing validation, and didn’t seem particularly interested in trends or outside approval. His offense was his offense. In a league obsessed with copying whatever worked last year, he was the rare coach who was comfortable being a little different and trusting his own process. There’s something admirable about that, especially in a profession built on insecurity.

And the results matter. From 2018 to 2023, Washington’s best scoring offense averaged 20.9 points per game (2020), finishing 23rd out of 32. In 2024, Kingsbury’s offense jumped to 28.5 points per game—fifth in the league. In 2025, despite extreme adversity, the offense still held up. By my count, the offense lost 63 combined starter games to injury: Daniels missed 10, McLaurin 7, Noah Brown 13, Ertz 4, Cosmi 9, Tunsil 3, Biadasz 2, Ekeler 15. That’s not even getting into the fact that the offense lost its superstar quarterback for ten games. And yet, the unit still averaged 20.9 points per game—literally matching the franchise’s best offensive season of the previous six-year stretch—and ranked 22nd, which is better than any finish from 2018–2023. Calling that a failure feels disconnected from reality.

Which brings me to the uncomfortable part. Dan Quinn is a defensive coach, and the defense has been historically bad over the last couple of seasons. That matters. The defensive coordinator he brought in was unproven, and the results were poor. When Quinn took over play-calling, things became more structurally sound—fewer blown assignments, fewer players clearly lost—but it was also aggressively vanilla. Functional, maybe, but not good. You see that vanillaness in how the defense produced 10 turnovers, 31st out of 32 in the NFL. To me, it feels like Kingsbury absorbed the consequences of failures that largely weren’t his.

I understand that Quinn deserves to build a staff he fully believes in, and I don’t doubt that he’s a good leader or a good person. But this move leaves a bad taste. When the side of the ball that was producing loses its coach, while the side that has been actively hurting the team gets more runway, it feels like scapegoating. And if the next round of hires doesn’t work, this decision is going to linger—for me, at least—in how quickly I’m willing to turn on Quinn.
Loyalty matters. Accountability matters more. And right now, it feels like those two things were applied in the wrong direction. Dan Quinn needs to look in the mirror, not in the offensive meeting rooms, because this defense is offensive.

If they wanted an offense that ran the ball more then why did they hire KK in the first place? To me KK is a gimmick, a run and shoot situation, and his offense is not sustainable. So I'm OK with the moves on both coordinators, obviously orchestrated by Harris and Company.

They were looking for a good proven OC to match opposite their defense with a good defensive minded head coach. Sounded like a match made in heaven.

It has become apparent that our defense has been a fail. Injuries have had a terrible affect on both sides of the ball. However the hand picked DC sucked and it was pointed out by may last year. They not only made a poor decision in selecting him but also in keeping on for 2026,

They need serious DC that can produce a decent defense right away. That will probably require yet another dose of one year contracts which is no way to build a team in year 3 of a regime

I won't claim that I want KK fired, but I'm also OK if they look for someone else. The best case scenario (as a reflection of the front office) for this situation is that Peters / Quin were iffy on Kliff, and he said he was gonna take HC interviews.... so they decided that they wanted to be actively looking for OC in case he left, and wanted their pick of the available coaches.

If Kliff goes to the Giants like some rumors say that they are interested, he will kill Dart. That kid has already had who knows how many concussions and still doesn't slide much.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Kliff decision was more Kliff's decision than the team's decision.

Repeating myself, I think he rejected HC interviews last year because he was having fun here and realized he had it better here than he would in Las Vegas. This year, I think the joy to money to power ratio flipped. Kliff probably was as unhappy and frustrated with 2025 as the rest of us and saw his himself losing luster. So, he thought, the money and fame of HCing might be worth looking into.

I think for many the problem isn’t that Kliff is no longer with the team, though he was the best we’ve had in… a long time.

It’s more so the timeline.

Reports of turmoil.

Meeting about the offense.

“Mutually” parting ways.

Quinn needing to hire two new coordinators.

A rough personnel job from Peters this offseason.

In a vacuum, losing Kliff isn’t great, but it’s not hard to recover from. If he had left for a HC position that he was hired to I would have been completely fine with moving on.

But the way this went down leaves a sour taste a bit and I can’t help but think Washington should have let this play out… unless they already have a target. That would be the saving grace - bringing in a HC quality OC.

I will let it play out but I don’t like where we are.

And Daboll’s name has been floating around. He is a verified QB killer as well unless the QB is an Adonis.
