The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I feel fairly justified keeping Bailey in my top 3 wishlistt (with Tyson/Tate).

I'm salivating thinking about a pass rush with Bailey/Newton/Luvu. Bailey out at 5 tech, or even a little wider, almost 7 tech, forcing the tackle to swing wide to stop him, Newton at 3 tech eating the guard alive, and Luvu shooting between those two. Instant pressure if you rush 5. Legitimate chance to get pressure with 4 too, Dorance+Bailey at edge and Newton+Kinlaw at DT, won't need to blitz nearly as much. Tremendously helpful to the back end to be able to drop 7 and still get pressure.

I got the same top 3 probably at the moment with Love in that group, too.

Yeah Bailey is the real deal but lol he's been making too many plays for me today for me to not worry that he goes before our pick.

I recall weeks back someone said, lets trade down and get Bailey, my response was I don't think we can trade down and get him. I am not 100% sure he will even be there at 7 -- especially considering Reese's late season swoon.

I know some here are swearing by Bain. But I trust Brugler and McShay if they are hearing he could slide down the draft. If that ends up true, feels like Bain could go before 7.

I'm in love with David Bailey, I don't care who knows it!

not that there's anything wrong with that seinfeld GIF by myLAB Box

He looks bigger and stronger than you might expect but he doesn't work through traffic very well. It's funny because if he is in pass rushing he has violent hands and good moves. You'd think those hands would assist so much i working through traffic defending the run of moving on a screen.
I have been down on his run defense ability from the beginning. But in fairness to him today he is being doubled on a lot of running plays when he is in. And Texas Tech knows he is a liability in the run game so they pull him off the field quite a but in those circumstances. I agree with you that he can be coached up on that part of his game. And unlike Reese who was a no show the past couple of games Bailey is shining on the biggest stage. He has been the most dominate player on the field today. I am fine if they think he is the next Parsons and take him. I am just curious if they will try to have him add weight or lose it. TT has dropped him a couple of times in this game. And he has looked comfortable doing it. I would almost rather see him drop a little weight and gain even more quickness.

This is part of why I hope we end up picking 6 or higher.

If Mendoza/Moore go 1/2, and we somehow, say, end up 5th, guaranteed to have one of those 3 there. Seen some mocks where it's like Mendoza -> Moore -> Tate -> Tyson -> Bailey and we're 6th or 7th and I'm like "great, guess I'll just go f myself, cool"

Oh I am a big fan of Baileys as well. I do think he has so many tools, some that may just need some tweaking to make him a more viable all around player. He is not one dimensional for sure.

It's hard for me to back any particular defender coming to Washington without knowing who the DC will be. I am really big on Downs and Bailey right now though.

As fun as the Texas Tech defense is, their offense sucks hot butt.

I'm so mad that one of Tate/Tyson/Bailey is gonna end up a New York Giant AFTER they get a haul to trade down like 2 spots.:mad::mad:

We need Nabers to like, punch a ref or something so he gets released and can come here sooner.

The DC will be as important as who we select in the first round. I think Bailey and Downs are my 1-2 right now, but they have to be put into position to succeed.

It appears we are in agreement with these two. To me Downs might be the best player in the draft and Bailey offers so much for such an important hard to fill position. Would love if they both were available at their selection to just see what they would do. Of course pressed into his situation tugboat would have taken the log snapper from Slouch HS

Just trying to reconcile in my head if I think run defense is something Bailey can get better at - and why he hasn’t, really - so far…

Because I love him as a pass rusher. Watched a lot of him the last few weeks and this morning and I’m completely sold on him as a pass rusher. Different style from Bain, likely due to arm length. He uses that reach to post and move so well.

I think he is going to join Bain, Love and Downs in my top group.

Man, that's another thing Bailey could offer. Gotta get the ball out fast, and for all his issues, Mikey has been a ball hawk. He might just feast like crazy if we can get pressure like this next year,

Holy shit, Texs Tech and this nice D is going to get shut out because their offense bites

I've been carrying on about Downs for a long time. For Bailey to some extent, too. But after today I am Bailey > Downs. But would love either.

I am suspecting especially post combine which I think Bailey will blow up, he might end up out of our range.
