The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

What I want? A sure fire impact player at #1, no trade downs unless absolutely necessary...and not too far down.

WR or Edge are the two spots I think we really need the most.

My two cents. I still believe in AP
 
Was it Peters calling the shots in regards to the cap spending in 2024 and 2025? I wonder if Harris was reluctant to give out massive bonuses the first year or two on the job?

But let's put it this way - none of us, including Peters and Quinn, knew in February and March that the team with Daniels on board was going to go 12-5 and Daniels was going to be an MVP candidate.

So, without that foresight, why did the team not do more to put together a better team? And after Daniels played the 2024 season, why didn't the front office do more in the 2025 offseason to add impact players, especially on defense?

I think Trey Amos was a good draft pick and will be starter in the NFL going forward.

But you can't tell me that making that one pick was enough to upgrade the unit, period.

We needed an impact DE, younger linebackers and an entire corps at safety.

We did little to add impact performers at ANY of these positions.

In fact we did not add ONE younger impact free agent on defense.
 
Just wishing all the members here that share their wisdom of all things NFL Draft a very Merry Christmas! I sincerely appreciate this thread and allowing me a platform to be a fellow draft nerd :)

Some observations since I'm playing catchup:

*Arvell Reese Ohio State - he would likely be my #1 if he played the Edge position more often and I would surmise he is likely one of the smartest defenders in the entire class

*John Henry Daley Utah - unfortunate Achilles injury, which are obviously very bad news but he would have been in the top 10 Edge group very easy for me - probably sniffing the top 5 actually if he were healthy and declared - that dude is good.

This likely won't be a popular take but I don't think the margin between David Bailey and Romello Height is much at all. I think Height's bend and first step explosion is better actually - not significanty so but I'm leaning that way right now.

Gonna unload here since I feel the same way. I think but have no proof that both AP and DQ need a great offseason acquisition of FAs and players they draft in 2026 and at least a .500 record to keep their jobs after 2026. AP was the prize hire for any team looking for the next great GM hire and DQ, well is DQ and was fortunate to get the gig as HC. DQ's exit may come a year earlier than APs if things are not at least .500 after the 2026 season. JMT.

I would argue that they had better foresight than all of us did. They very well may have known how easily 12-5 could have been 5-12 and they weren't going to do anything drastic. They were going to stay the course investing the way they believe is the best way to build long term roster success. We see guys like Sinnott and get irritated with a lack of immediate impact, while they're looking at a TE they believe projects a certain way long term.

There's been a lot of frustration with a short, and recent, draft history. Peters very well may have a 10 year plan on his white board, and the year to year results may impact decisions, but the plan is the plan.
 
It's far too soon to heap criticism on AP and Harris. One of the reasons they didn't go all out to 'fix the D' is that because they were going all out to 'fix the O'. It may not have worked out perfectly but 80% of our free agency and draft capital went towards trying to upgrade the unit around Jayden. Given that he is the most valuable asset we have, I am not inclined to criticise them for that. It's cliche, but 'you can't fix everything at once' is still true.

I'm giving them 4-5 seasons before I feel comfortable heaping either praise or criticism on them.

I agree with Harris. I don't see how he can be criticized at all unless you didn't like AP from the get go or if he tightened the wallet on team free agency spending this season.

I for one was excited with the AP hire.

I don’t buy that. AP is a professional GM. He was able to go address both sides of the ball with the cap room he had.

Absolutely. They had all the cap room in the world but spent like they had just an ordinary amount. It wasnt an all in off season by a long shot.

They had enough to have a buffett but spent like he had just enough for a dinner at a modestly priced restaurant
 
We are now guaranteed top 9 pick and more likely than not top 8 (we probably win the tiebreaker with the Bengals if we end up with the same record, but it could still shift).

Even with them having nothing to play for id be surprised if we beat the eagles next week, assuming we do lose I could see a scenario where we get up to 5 but not likely any higher, something crazy would have to happen to get higher than that.
The titans could beat the saints this week and the Cardinals could beat the bengals, if that happens we'd jump to 5.
Jets have almost no chance to win either of their two remaining and even if the browns win one of their last two they'll end up with the tiebreaker with a weaker schedule.
Hope for a Cardinals and titans win this week and we'll most likely draft number 5.
Last time we drafted 5th and there was a superstar cant miss safety coming out we did pretty good for ourselves. 😁
 
There is also a reasonable scenario where either the giants or raiders win out and we jump one of them so 4 is possible.
