Official Game Thread - Week 16 - Eagles @ Commanders

Bet Cardinals fans thought Trey McBride was a bust while Kliff was there......

I said the same in the past, when rationalizing the situation. McBride broke out in a big way the moment Ertz got hurt in Arizona, though. Sinnott has, what, 2-3 catches since Ertz went down here, with a competent backup QB in Mariota most of that time slinging the ball.

McBride was also a much better prospect and not considered to be over-drafted at the time.

That’s clearly gotta be the default position on the issue, but there’s nothing to discuss there. If it’s the case, it’ll play out and be even more obvious over a larger sample size. So for now the only real thing to speculate about is what could be happening to explain the situation if it turns out he’s *not* a total bust, a year from now. At least there’s some meat there. Totally lost season, no QB play worth dissecting, offseason still a few weeks away…gotta speculate about something

But I think most people know that option A is that he most likely just sucks as a receiver and was a bad draft pick. He’s improved a lot as a blocker, sure, but that’s not at all what we needed from a TE drafted where he was.

He was a 3rd-5th round guy on consensus boards. Had we taken him at the LMC pick (#100), I think fan sentiment would be different toward him

The early Burks trust in high leverage situations was actually the most interesting. He must have been flashing some skills in practice that made him seem worth throwing the ball up to because since he started getting on the field for us he’s been trusted with high difficulty passes in important situations. And mostly come through. But, again, for whatever his issues were on the Titans, getting injured, and not being able to live up to the “AJB replacement” billing…he’s still been in the league a few years. He was a reclamation project but he’s still a vet who’s been in NFL WR meeting rooms for years and learned multiple offenses.

So it may just be a function of vets having that hard-earned experience that makes a coach more likely to give them snaps and a QB more likely to actually target them in games. Reliability > talent in some cases.
I would like to see Burks back on a low risk deal. He had a lot of pressure on him coming out of college. He has shown intriguing flashes here. With a full off-season and camp we might have found ourselves with a quality starter and a big bodied end zone threat.

^^ Yes on both counts. What coaches were thinking with these two over Driskel or numerous others who were available over the off-season.

And seriously,it's time to crap out Hartman. He has been a wasted roster spot, especially if he really is just there to make JD happy

Cosmi to the IR is a bummer. Hope the concussion is mild and he is fine moving forward

I’m fine with any veteran or starter they want to put on IR for whatever ailments in the last couple weeks. Get the youth out there, and the weaker we are when playing the Eagles’ backups in two weeks when Quinn really wants to steal a win, the better
