The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

SOS is pretty baked in now. I don’t expect much will change in that regard. Rooting hard for the Jets to win today.

Probably. Though its close to Cincy, they are just .11 above us as to SOS with the Steelers and Browns potentially foundering at the end. So that one might not hold.

We are .18 behind the Saints and .14 with the Falcons.

I think the Browns are too far gone as to their SOS, we likely lose the tie breaker to them. Ditto we likely win the SOS (win in a good way as to having a weaker SOS) against the Jets if tied.

I know it's a taboo to talk about anything other than BPA, but from 30,000 feet and 5 months out, it's very possible that wherever we don't go in the 1st, we go in the 3rd insofar as Edge vs WR is concerned. I will say, my gut feeling is its probably easier to find a "pass rush specialist" who can help us pressure a QB (while probably sucking at most other things) than a good WR. Unless you can manage to sneak another Terry, you're probably looking at guys more in the McCaffrey tier, which, there's nothing wrong with that, and Luke has flashed some fun ability, but we can really easily end up with a 10 car pile-up at WR3 that does nothing to advance our offense.

You’re right but it’s cheap and easy to also find a pass rush specialist in FA. See Jacob Martin.

It’s finding those more well rounded pass rushers with elite pressure rates who are harder to find

Really wish we had a 2nd round pick this year. I know some folks are not too excited about trading down but I'd love to see us picking high enough to have a qb hungry team offer up a 2nd and some change.

I do too. With a high 2nd, it’s a decent chance you get another fast contributor. Would be helpful for this D especially

We're probably gonna be at about pick 6-7 😱

We are not getting much help today. Titans only one winning but they have 2 games up on us anyway. If Cardinals win then maybe things shuffle but we seem pretty locked into that 7th spot atm.

Giants unfortunately just locked up the #1. Dart isn’t elevating anyone post-Nabers and post-Skat so I wonder if real conversations start to happen about the cost/benefit analysis of Dart + trade down (or stick and pick stud) vs Mendoza + whatever they can trade Dart for.

Cards did it to Rosen.

The fanbase loves Dart’s moxy, but they’re about to wipe out the whole organization and start over. There’s no guarantee the new regime wants to trade down. Dart has a reckless playstyle and there’s no guarantee he’s the franchise guy, he’s got one less year on his rookie deal, he’s another coach’s guy, the clock is already ticking on him and he seems to want to give himself CTE every week.

This could be a real civil war in their fanbase and a real point of discussion the new regime spends a lot of time on…

Tyson's drop rate is why I have him ranked under Tate. He has improved it. But he would drop passes a lot early in his career. I think Tyson is probably a more dangerous receiver when he catches the ball though. And of course his injury history is concerning as well.

He's been really good if I recall for 2 years now or close?

His YAC numbers and Tate are exactly the same.

The SOS weakened which is good with the 1 pm games, the one bright thing about that slate of games. The other thing is the Bengals and Saints now have more distance to our pick.

If they win 1 more game. The teams we want to win are Atlanta, Saints, Bengals. We win the SOS game with the Saints and Bengals but are a hair behind the Falcons in SOS but its super close. So SOS while might not be a factor in many scenarios is clearly a factor with the Falcons again if Washington wins 1 more and the Falcons lose out.

If they don't win again. The 3 win teams are: the Titans, Arizona, Jets, Browns. We got the SOS tiebreaker on the Titans and Arizona by a mile. So a win from those teams would be big. We also win the SOS right now with the Jets but the margin is thiner. We lose the SOS against the Browns so them winning just one game is unlikely a big deal.

For the 4 pm games:

Cards over Atlanta -- that's the big one

Jax over Denver -- to weaken our SOS

Houston over Raiders to weaken our SOS and get in the way of the Giants getting the #1

Pitts over Detriot: to weaken our SOS

It looks like our SOS matters mainly if they win another game and Atlanta loses out. And there is a fighting chance albiet unlikely that we can fall behind the Browns SOS.

I watched much of that game. I don't think they are as bad as the Raiders. At a minimum they have a fighting shot to beat the Raiders. I don't think they got it locked up yet.

As others have mentioned, who we want/like the best takes a back seat to how the draft plays out.

Worst case scenario, no QB's taken Top 5. All the (maybe) Blue Chips are gone. We can maybe salvage it with a trade down.

Most likely case, someone in the Tyson, Tate, Bailey, Reese group will still be there. So that's who we take.

Not great so far as for the 1 pm games. But it help accomplish 2 things.

A. Helped the SOS some more for tiebreakers
B. We can swallow a meaningless win easier
C. Added another 3 win team closer to our pick.

So 4 three team wins, 3 of which we win the SOS tiebreakers and the 4th isn't impossible to catchup to.

Arizona
playing Atlanta now
Cincy
Rams

Jets
New England
Buffalo -- got to hope Buffalo rests starters

Browns
Steelers
Bengals

Titans
Saints at home
Jacksonville on the road
