The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

If we were to trade back and still end up with Bailey, Downs, Love, I would be ecstatic. Teams may want to come up for Mauioga or Fano too--I would be all to happy to oblige that. I wouldn't be opposed, given proper scenarios, of course, to dropping back to 18 and getting the Jets 1st rounder next year also...because the Jets are stupid, this is entirely possible.
 
I’d be happy with Love if it was after a small trade back also netting us a 2nd plus more. It’d be a harder sell for me if we take him at 4 given our next pick will be in the 3rd round with our obvious needs at WR and Edge

Yeah am cool with the assuming -- just saying this odds don't look super great in this draft for a team wanting to trade up.
 
Teams fall in love with certain players in the evaluation and interview process and I have seen trade ups in drafts where the 'experts' didn't think there would be any major movement.

I agree you can't DEPEND on that outcome - you have to do your due diligence in free agency and try to meet critical needs there as well to cover yourself against being disappointed in April.

In that regard I think Washington did a relatively poor job in free agency - leaving millions of dollars on the table unspent and going after mid-tier guys and vet minimums instead of admitting rebuilding is a multi-year process and perhaps going after perhaps 2 or 3 IMPACT players that would be here over the next 3-4 years.
 
Sneaky need for us (IMO)… backup center that can hopefully take over from Biadacz in 2027.


Edit: Also, while I definitely think there’s a place for older vets, it feels like there are some inherent problems if the older guys play well for you. You re-sign them, but now they cost more. You let them walk, but they aren’t getting signed to big enough contracts to net comp picks. And that’s forgetting team chemistry, including the perception of not rewarding guys that performed.

I don't recall which one, but I remember it was a recent draft where they didn't trade down and so many expected they would, and it came out later from Ron that they had no trade down offers.

Don't get me wrong it can happen of course but its clearly far from a given.

If lets say they are picking 6 I think a team would have to be on drugs to offer much of a haul to trade up. Who are they trading up for? The O lineman and CBs aren't considered top 10 talent by most. Likely only one QB, and they likely go #1. Trade up for Bain? Will see there is plenty of time for things to evolve in the draft process but as of now I'd be shocked if they get a big trade offer, I'd be mildly surprised if they get an offer that doesn't give much draft capital but gives a little. And I'd guess 50-50 whether they get a trade offer at all and if so lol it might save them from themselves because no team has less elite players on their roster than this team -- and that's compounded by their trade downs over the years where their trading partners often did get that elite player.

Agree with your point about FA. Hopefully they learn this year.

If I recall, that was Brandon Scherff under Gruden/Allen. They passed on Leonard Williams; they said all the calls were for Dante Fowler, none for Williams/Scherff

Absolutely, I have been saying this for some time now. A backup that has thee potential of being a starter in his year 2 would be great. Ability to play G also of course would be bigger

This needs to be where our 5th or one of our 6ths goes, the latter to at least take a flyer on a guy who can develop over a season. It’s a position you can find a guy late.

Absolutely. It is a shame we don't have more pics. One of those 6th's being a DT to develop would be nice too.
