He released it at the 35 and it came down around the 2 yard line ish.
Not even 65 yards in the air.
Far cry from 77 yards.

Correct. Same with the defenseless receiver BS, roughing the passer on a plain Jane tackle ect. I mean in the Chiefs / Eagles game, we saw a defender sack Hurts by wrapping his arms around him and when he took him to the ground,he rolled to the side so his body weight wouldn't be on him and they still called roughing! We don't need to put more decision making on the refs, need to take more away from them.
The hip drop tackle, in other words, a regular tackle, happens in football on every level all across this country every weekend. Yet we have professional football softening things up for the greatest and most skilled players in the world. Just soft horse hockey. Luckily, they don't call it very often and the incident with 5 only matters to Skins fans.

Right now refs are instructed that if it looks like it hurts, flag it. That's not football period.
 
I think DP is right that, in trying to reduce the chances of injury, the NFL has implemented some rules that make it difficult for defenders to do anything violent and not get flagged. Or the rules are so poorly defined as to be much more subjective than a well thought out rule should be. You literally see the exact same play made in a game and it’s called one time, not called another. It’s kind of a nightmare from the players perspective because what are you supposed to do. Be violent, but not too violent. The reality of football is that it is a hard-hitting violent sport, and good luck changing that aspect with rules changes.

I do take issue with calling it ‘soft’. The NFL (I believe) is interested in reducing injuries and improving player safety. That is both because they care about player safety, and also because fans don’t want to watch playoff games featuring a bunch of backups. They are also quite aware that participation in football at every youth level is decreasing due to violent injuries.

As with most things, there is probably a balance to be found between improving safety and not changing the core nature of an inherently violent game.

Today’s the day. What are you betting on being reported this afternoon?

A. 5 got some work today but is a game time decision.
B. 5 had a good practice, checked all the boxes, will play.
C. Mariota will make the start.

I’m going with game time decision, and a Saturday night/Sunday morning, Rappaport or Schefter tweet that he will not play on Sunday.

Surprised he let that out. Got that prediction wrong.
 
If they ruled him out that quickly I wonder if this is a 1 week ordeal or possibly multiple weeks.
