2025 Game Predictions- Raiders v Commanders

So yeah pass protect like most young RBs is the challenge

Yep. And that’s why McNichols (and maybe eventually Chase Edmonds) is a better start to get passing situation snaps. Bill being in the game has to not be a dead giveaway that it’s a run. Mark Ingram early in his career suffered from this, and he was a way more hyped and pedigreed guy obviously.

We should still be seeing more Bill, but he’s gotta develop that part of his game to gain Kliff’s (and Jayden’s) trust. They have to give him the opportunity to do it, too, though.

One would think with a gimpy quarterback that running the ball is a greater priority this week against a team that has to come across country on short rest.

But then again it's Kilff we are talking about so Jayden probably throws the ball 30 times.

The age on this roster still mystifies me. We start the year with Ekeler at 30 and MacNichols at 29 among the top 4 backs on the team.

Given that this is Year 2 of a rebuild from 4-13 that we could find some younger players at a position where attrition mitigates against longevity.

Merritt is a nice start but if we are talking about the odds of picks coming in and starting or making major contributions, 7th rounders are what 10-15%?

There was a chance Merritt failed to make the grade once he came into camp and then we would be sitting here with a room full of older veterans cast off from their former clubs.

So are the plays without the ball that are holding Bill back from getting more snaps the same issue(s) for why C-Rod struggles to get activated on game days, because I feel like he also shows an ability to produce every time he actually runs the ball but his playing time never seems to be extensive.

If that is the case then it is kind of a concern that two of your RB's fall into that category, at least to me, especially for C-Rod who has had time to work on the other aspects of the RB position.

100%, and CRod doesn’t play special teams. So without injury he’s redundant (now with Bill, before—incorrectly, imo—with BRob) which is why he keeps ending up as a fringe roster player. He went from someone not in shape last year to impressing the coaches this year though, so if he gets active on game day he’ll get his chance.

Yeah it is a big problem. By letting BRob go and knowing Ekelers injury history they should have a plan in place. Assuming CRods experience makes him better in pass pro than Bill, opposing DC's will know Bill's weakness and key on him running the ball when in the game.

I predict CRod is on the field for at least half of the offensive plays. I'd like to see all three of the RBs involved running the ball but also in the pass game to keep defenses in check a bit. So far I don't think any RB other than Ekeler has had a ball thrown to them.

I mean, I think their plan for replacing BRob was fine. They like JCM and CRod over him as a rusher, maybe they don’t have quite his versatility as an under-appreciated receiver, but JCM has upside there. He’s been targeted once (kind of a drop he had on a quick dump off) and whiffed on a pass protection rep. But he’s got upside. Replacing Ekeler is definitely tougher which is why using him on returns, though obviously effective, felt a little self-indulgent given his past issues. Never could’ve predicted the Achilles however, I figured a concussion would do him in if I’m being honest. But Ekeler going down week two is obviously a worst case scenario for that particular skill-set on the roster.

If JCM doesn’t develop over the season into a credible passing down threat, then that’ll be a big item on our shopping list heading into the offseason. An Achane/Bucky Irving type 3rd/4th round explosive receiver out of the backfield

I know how Gibbs would have solved the problem. Start two tight ends with Bill and throw out of that formation at times downfield to catch the defense keying on the run.

Or lining up 3 wide receivers so the defense can't afford to simply tee off on Daniels with zero blitz packages.

We just don't see the adjustments very often in today's league like we used to.

Coordinators put in a specific set and use it throughout the season regardless of who is on the field, the injuries sustained and the results on the scoreboard.

We really need the run game to go off, but that's a problem since the Raiders apparently have been lights out against the run for 2 weeks now:

Perhaps a reason to change alignments and go with a stronger set up front and confuse the Raiders back seven?

Honestly surprised that they announced it now instead of pretending it was up in the air for another day or two

Now that Mariotta is starting i need to change my prediction. I like the guy and hes a capable back up. But we still havent gotten anything going and now down 2 starters of offense.

Raiders 20
Redskins 16

Run at Crosby. Hopefully we get some first downs early to get confidence.

Wash should win even with Mariota playing ... in fact, i feel even better about the call with Mariota since JD looks a bit off so far. 21-17
Too many negatives for the raiders:
-short week
-playing a team with 10 day rest
-struggling offense
-flying across the country

If Wash looses.. we are in REAL trouble. This where I start questioning the FO and coaching staff based on their offseason work and sub par drafts.
