Tell the Truth Friday- Commanders @ Packers Edition

More anti-overreaction evidence:

I go back to the Bucs from last year--they opened 3-1 against the Eagles, Lions, Broncos, and Commanders; beating the three best NFC teams, who were a combined 41-10. Then went 1-4, losing twice to the Falcons and the crumbling 9ers who went a combined 14-20.

So, what we can probably surmise is the Packers will completely shit the bed against the Eagles.
 
So disappointed with the coaching. It took way too long to transition to things that were effective. Such as making Love uncomfortable by blitzing. I was talking with a Packers fan and he was surprised we waited until like the 4th quarter to see if blitzing would work as that has been a knock on Love.

Makes it feel like our coaches and staff are Rivera-esque.

We limited Ekeler's usage last season to keep him healthy...but we tried to make a 30 year old RB a bellcow? Of course he got hurt, just happened to be the Achilles. The worst yardage Bill got on a carry was 4 yards. Watch us start McNichols next game.
 
It is September and I LIKE losing in September weirdly sometimes, especially in a tough game with a tough opponent. Hopefully learn from it.

My concern is I am not convinced that Kliff’s style is the best scheme, and that just always bugs me. I am glad it worked out last year! Absolutely, but even then there were quite a few Jayden scrambles that bailed out failed drives. Lane discipline and very coordinated rushes took that away last night. So this was way more Kliff vs their DC. Jayden’s dynamics took a lot of D attention. So in that case the OC needs to make them pay for that; scheme a read open.

I saw it happen maybe two or three times; Terry 3rd and 9, and Ertz TD.

The other thing that slows a pass rush? Running. The. Ball.

So Kliff gets the worst grade of the night for me. Clock management through two weeks is also very bad (DQ).

I’d say we were thoroughly outclassed on the road by Philly (reg season) and the Ravens last year. Sometimes great teams like those are gonna make good teams like us look really bad. My take is more that GB is a great team at this point then any big problem on our end. And by the way, it was a one score game early in the fourth quarter, so yeah we got our ass kicked but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a blowout.

Yeah this is true but they were pounding us. Their O and D were largely in control. Our D made timely stops and that is why it wasn’t a blowout.

That’s “close to a blowout” and that’s not good at all.

I haven’t looked yet but I assume ToP and play count will be awkward. Maybe play count not as bad because of garbage time.

I understand not wanting to throw the season in the garbage based on one game against a good team on the road on a short week.

But Jordan Love is meh and the primary reason it wasn’t a blowout. The defense gave him plenty of opportunities and he just squandered it.

It’s been a while since I’ve been so flat watching a game and convinced this team had no shot from very early on. There were absolutely no signs we’d turn it on and make it a game. Every yard was a struggle to earn. Even when it was cut to 7, we all knew there was no magic and that the Pack would immediately answer with 7.

I guess the only guiding light is that the teams of old likely do get beat by 4 scores in a game like this. So there’s that. But it was really never close and should be alarming to everyone that the offense “that should score every possession” couldn’t muster anything against the Pack.
 
Our defense looked great. Not much you can do without an offense. Secondary was good, LBers, Dline all best we've seen in years.

Get on the phone with Clowney ASAP, cause the Wise injury is going to hurt. I almost bought a wise jersey(because he's vegan lol).

We needed to run the ball a hell of a lot more. We were getting 5 yards a clip and it was working and because we got away from it so quickly, they were able to sit in coverage.

I wouldn’t include Baltimore. Sans the bad spot we very well might have tied that game in the 4th. The Ravens were better that game but we were competitive. Something we weren’t close to last night despite the score.

Baltimore was a very similar game--they rolled up 480+ yards, we were down 2 scores late in the 4th q. Kicked a late FG to make it look closer.
 
I turned off the game at Halftime
 
As bad as the game itself was, the injuries are what really hurt (no pun intended). A lot of negatives for this game, which you guys have highlighted well. So, my mind has turned towards the (few) positives.

Even with Wise out, in a game in which our O put our D in a bad position, vs a balanced, well coached and pretty talented offense… our run D was actually pretty good. Sucks bad to lose Wise. He, Martin and Kinlaw seem like nice additions to our D.

Packer defense was swarming, but JCM was still making something out of nothing. It was a different test for him, but he handled it well (even though it was a small sample size).

Deebo’s in fine form. I think I’d like to see them pass his KR duties (back) to McCaffrey to limit his usage, even though I get the appeal.

Regarding Amos, I’m not sure if any of the downfield throws vs zone were on him, but as far as I could tell he held his own (again).

Nice to see McCaffrey get in on the action.

You’re correct. I was remembering the Pittsburgh game where we were the victims of a poor spot.
 
Felt very much like they exploited our issues on O-Line. Connerly took a beating that only got worse when we lost Bates. It's been a rough baptism of fire for him. The GB DL switched it up multiple times, coming with Parsons from both the left and right. It felt like a cohesive DL that's played together a while, getting a force multiplier in Parsons, going against an OL still working out the kinks and working in the rookie. JD found himself with very little room to run.
And they went after Lattimore relentlessly. Looks like he's lost a step, definitely not the lock down corner at the moment that we hoped he'd be. They converted chunk play after chunk play yesterday against our D, it was horrible to watch.

But I'm not gonna overreact yet. It was a short week against a team that is well prepped and supposedly a SB fave. We still look rusty and not in sync. At least we scored more against them that the LIons did. LOL

We have a mini-bye now. So we have some time to get ready for LV.

Maybe the Ekeler injury will be a blessing that'll give Bill more time on the field. Maybe we'll start to see Terry earn that paycheck after getting more practice reps in this week.

Seemed like the game plan was to be explosive in the passing game, which explains why Ek was in there so much.

It didn't work and we should have been hammering McNic and Bill and even Deebo, but we didn't.
 
Bates going out hurt. If he didn't, he would have been able to help our rookie RT. Connerly looked awful.

And I chuckle when long time fans leap off the cliff on a young Qb when they should know better given this club’s history with QBs.
5 may become a franchise Qb but he’s not there yet.
