Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Giants @ Commanders

Payne's best game in a looooong time...hmmm, it this a contract year?
Giants OL is not good when Thomas is out.
JD's timing was off, and Conerly struggled at RT - hopefully those issues will resolve themselves in a game or two.
The money spent on Kinlaw doesn't look so bad now. Lattimore appears healthy. Deebo playing like vintage Deebo.

What's the best way to celebrate? Buy a book. Is he kidding? Kind of... I'm not sure he's kidding.

Washington run D looked REALLY good today. Again, not exactly a monster unit, there will be much better rushing teams out there, but it's very nice that against a unit they could beat up on missing their LT, that they basically held the RBs to 30 yards across 15 carries. You're not gonna get very far as an offense when your running game is producing 2 ypc.

Jayden opened his littler interview with Erin Andrews with "we played sloppy." And then he closed his remarks with "As I said, we played sloppy."

He knows.

That's the best thing that you can have. Awareness.

The only thing I would caution is the Giants aren't a good OL or running team. So was it an unmovable object an force that didn't move? Who's to say.

before the season started, I did call "payday Payne" making a difference lol

You were right about Bill.

Robinson just doesn't have the burst to make the plays Bill and Ekler made today.

Really excited to see this group grow. It was also their first game together.

Yeah I watched him a bunch before the draft, and he wasn't an easy watch, took awhile for games to be put up on youtube for him, what put him on the radar for me is a dude who was once on football outsiders loved him and I kept hearing this team was poking around on him.

Once we got to the 6th round or so I was pushing for him hard.

As I mentioned previously. I think the running game is going to be good. I think the pass rush will be good. I think the run defense will be bad. So far i am right on 2 of the three things. lol, I hope to be wrong on all three.

But hard to tell definitively with the Giants bad O line. As I mentioned if Thomas doesn't play, I am picking Washington and I think this pass rush will get to the QB. I was wrong in that I thought it would be close.

Washington's offense was worse than I expected. The defense was better than I expected. The Giants overall played worse than I expected -- but i am glad -- like you its the team I hate the most and in turn I get more emotional in the Giants weeks than any other week typically.

Dumbass gap tooth Giant said "Daniels looked outstanding" on post game.

I mean, clearly they can't watch every snap of every game. But he didn't look outstanding. He looked like an outstanding QB having an average game.

I remember hearing that line during one of the Montana SBs, when he had something like 200 yards of offense in a half, but he missed a few plays. And he wasn't terribly happy with himself at the half, and somebody said, "Hall of Fame Player having an average half of football." WHich was like 200 yards and 3 TDs or something ridiculous like that.

That's the way I felt today with Daniels. Great QB, average game.

lol, yep me too. Both off seasons where money was on the line for Payne, we've heard about how he's in the best shape of his career and looks more determined than usual.

That's fine. I'll take it. But I wouldn't bring him back after another big contract season if it goes down like that. He's under contract still but you can get out of because the lack of guartanteed money so good chance he's a FA.

Agree. He wasn't himself. I liked him owning up to the offense needs to play better and were sloppy, today.

Well he woulda gotten killed today had they played him.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think Robinson would probably have had a forgettable game with a few of negative yardage/minimal gain type plays today. Kind of like Skattebo did for NYG.

I thought it was going to be close too. But mostly because games between these teams are ALWAYS close and something ALWAYS seems to go the wrong way and the NY Giants boogey man gets us.

I was really hoping the bungling at the end of the first half wasn't going to be the thing this game. And it wasn't. But it could have been.

Redski.. ah, Commanders dominated the game but kept the Giants in it until midway through the fourth quarter with all the damn penalties. Conerly looked talented but like a rookie at times, will get better with experience.

Defense got a lot of pressure on Wilson, granted they had that against a suspect OL. Great game overall and I am taking the mistakes (including missing a wide open Terry) as the effect of no preseason games. Hoping that is out of our system now. Green Bay can bite me.

Yeah between that and the penalities -- sloppy game from them. Obviously they need to clean that up.

Update on how Giants fans are feeling post game:

I don't remember where I heard it, I think some Giants guy on Galdi's podcast, who said something like "the Giants are expecting to play well and win, and it's going to be a gut punch to them if they lose."

And I thought it was stupid when he said it. Not that they shouldn't think they could come in and win, but that they were expecting it and it would be a gut punch if they lost.

And just flat out misses by Daniels and drops.

Way too many drops. JD5 wasn't as accurate as he normally is.

It will all improve as they get more reps. (This is why I wanted Terry in sooner and wanted players playing more in the preseason.)
