Whether they have a season or two under their belts or are rookies - which Washington player(s) do you see stepping up their games in a major way to make surprisingly big contributions in 2025? Multiple selections allowed.

I am going with Johnny Newton. He is surrounded by a pretty solid cast of guys with experience along the DL who can play. His running mate, Payne, is also extra motivated to have a big year given it is a contract year for him, so that should only help Newton. He showed enough in ‘24 to believe there is a possible ascension this coming year. I think Newton is the difference maker in 2025 in terms of how the DL fares overall.

Edit - My mistake - Payne is not in a contract year but should still be motivated to take charge with Jon Allen now being out of the mix. ;)

My top selection is Trey Amos, I think he is going to be a fan favorite star

I also selected Lane and Bill because both will have significant contributions for rookie 4th and 7th rounders

My last selection was Conerly because I see him taking over RT from Wylie and giving us stud bookends. What a great feeling to have used 2 higher draft selections over the past two years along with a trade to create the new hogs!

Thanks for that. I have also been thinking (and posting) this was his contract year. In fact after this season is the first time we could cut him without a prohibitive cap hit. I think he will be motivated because he will be cut if he doesn’t perform. Given that he may come into next season ready to rock as well. I just would not extend him.

I picked one each from both sides of the ball. On offence I think Brandon Coleman is going to reap the benefits of starting in between Tunsil and Biadasz. Coming of the back of a rookie year at LT he may have some adjustments to make at LG but I think that he’s going to excel there this year particularly in the run game.
On defence I think we will see more instances with 3 LBs on the field so I think that Jordan Magee will get the opportunity to show what he can do. Like Coleman he is going to benefit greatly from the experience playing alongside him. If he can stay healthy he can show enough to allow us to perhaps use Wagner more sparingly.

I went with 2 second year players and 1 rookie.

Newton - with the changes on the DL and a full training camp (which he didn't get last year), I think this young man is going surprise a fair few teams this season.
McCaffery - he caught nearly everything thrown at him last year, Daniels just didn't look for him a lot. I think that changes this year and he becomes a force from the slot.
Amos - bookend for Lattimore. As I said on the pod a couple days ago, I'm optimist about our secondary this year for the first time in several decades and Amos is a big reason why.

Dark Horse - Ben Sinnott

This isn't to discredit others not selected, but I think CRod's consistency will be a big positive. We know Kliff/Jayden love staying ahead of the chains, don't mind plays that set up easier future downs, and CRod will really help with that. Conerly + Amos are two more. Not including Bill doesn't mean I'm down on him, just that I think Kliff will like using CRod a bit more.

Quan Martin is the last one. I think better corners in front of Martin, and second year in the same scheme will really help Martin be aggressive with his decision making.

Rookie: Amos. I think he seems like an immediate hit for AP and an actual steal (unlike last year where we heard about how they expected Newton to go in the 1st, but we haven’t seen the talent yet). Prototype CB1, remains to be seen if we get lucky enough for him to be a true shutdown guy. That feels unlikely but he seems talented and slowing down opposing stud WR1’s is all we can ask for these days.

2nd year player: Sainristil. And not just because he has a cool name that screams Tolkien. Amos excelling outside will allow him to fully blossom and be a turnover machine imo. Stud in the making who gets national recognition after this year.

These two combined means we might not even be boned if Lattimore is hurt or washed. But if he’s at least good, man will these two young guys get to shine. Which will help Von Miller eat on limited snaps and get the ball back for Jayden, which may help mitigate our likely meh run defense.

Dark Horse: Lane. Maybe a strange pick as a “dark horse” since rookie skill players are usually overhyped if anything, I get that…but I think how raw or unready he seems is a mirage. Kliff can manufacture explosive touches for him (and his route-running isn’t as early stage as I thought it was red flagged to be). McLaurin, Deebo, and Daniels are a lot for a defense to account for on their own. If the OL and RB’s give us a real run game in addition to Jayden’s legs, that’s something else to account for and killer PA pass creation. LB’s always have to worry about Ertz somehow gaining a micro amount of separation in slow motion. There’s just a lot going on and we’re entering year 2 of the Jayden/Kliff partnership. I suspect there will be more opportunities for Lane to surprise defenses than some people think, and unlike McCaffrey, Lane is a smooth athlete that makes operating before the catch, at the catch, and after the catch look natural and easy. McCaffrey still has potential but he makes everything look pretty difficult, even his nice shake & bake on the defender last week looked kinda awkward. Lane is smooth. He is our secret weapon imo.

I think C Rod is primed to get those BRob goaline carries. I also think he may get more reps than some expect and I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the bell cow. My bold prediction is C Rod gets 8+ tds.

I drafted both Rodriguez and Bill in my fantasy draft because one of the two is going to be a big time contributor for Washington in 2025.
We noticed.

We’ll talk when the seasons over :)

I did the same. Anointing Bill is premature given how good CRod has looked and that he's gotten a fair amount of reps with the 1's too.
