The 2025 Free Agency Thread

Comparing Ron's evaluation powers to Jay's is like comparing the desire to be shot or hung at your execution. Both suck and you're dead at the end, so who cares?

I don’t know, Jay had some hits. We may actually have more of his guys than Ron’s on our current roster. Off the top of my head, he brought in Tress Way and Jeremy Reaves, and he drafted Terry McLaurin and Daron Payne.

That alone is probably enough to beat Ron, but he also had some other decent free agent pickups (Desean Jackson, Vernon Davis) and draft picks (Brandon Scherff, Jon Allen, Montez Sweat, Jamison Crowder).

What does Ron have on his resume to compare? Jon Bates was a great pick, but I’m having a hard time naming another quality addition that lasted. Maybe Quan Martin?

Jay had less control over the roster than you make it seem. He at one point left the draft room in a big huff when he was ignored over reaching on some players.

He wasn't apprised of trading for Alex Smith (if memory serves).

Jay was a damn fool. A broken clock is right twice a day.

Yeah that sounds right, but there’s no denying our roster was managed much better during his tenure than it was during Ron’s.

I wouldn’t call him a fool, but he wasn’t a good leader. I’m just saying he was better than Ron and a few others from Snyder’s ownership years, a low bar to be sure.
Ok. Damn fool AND dumbass.

(Some of this is playing to the crowd. I have a reputation of hating on Jay to uphold…)

Cincy ponies up additional 14 mil for just this year for Hendrickson

And he’ll be a free and clear FA next season (they won’t be able to afford the Franchise Twg around $30M most likely), probably looking to sign a 2 year deal or so 👀

A decent backup QB is worth his weight in gold. Hope Mariota stays healthy the next couple years

Secretly loves him

Well they had to move at least one right away and he was the logical first choice. They still have Flacco, Gabriel, Sanders and Watson (still injured)...crazy.

I agree that he was better than most available for a QB2 role. Fingers crossed with MM being healthy!

Cleveland is usually very stable at QB and with their QB decision process.

All these teams are seeing first and second rounders released after one or two years and they get all excited thinking its free candy but quickly realize rons trash is never another mans treasure.
Thats a quote to live by! "Ron's trash is never another mans treasure"'

A quick google says Cincinnati has 54 million in cap room next year. They can franchise him, if they want. Cincinnati has all of the control.

I’d love Hendrickson here as a Von Miller replacement next year.

They could for sure, but because the Franchise Tag is fully guaranteed at signing it has to go into escrow all at once, which for the Bengals is a huge $30M cash outlay lol, so most people think they won’t (and that this is the reason Hendrickson didn’t get a no-tag clause in his new 1-year contract) but who knows
