The Jayden Daniels Tracker

Curious to know if Jayden is still incorporating the VR training before or after practice. Haven't heard anyone ask him about that in post camp pressers, unless I've missed it.

I think he still uses it obsessively, and I think they stopped talking much about it on purpose.

What I'd be curious about is the following:

1) Are other teams scrambling to adopt the same or similar technology?
2) Is the company that Jayden uses for his virtual training making this tech availble to any NFL team who wants it, or does Washington have some kind of exclusive deal with them?

I don’t know. I don’t think the technology is magical. What’s incredible is Daniels’ work ethic.

Other teams might have the same VR, but is their QB going to be obsessively using it and studying? It’s just another way to put in work.

I think, if anything, it’s just going to increase the gap between guys like Daniels, that have all the tools, but obsessively work, and guys like Kyler Murray, that have great tools, but need contractual incentives to do film review.

Daniels looks like he’s just the perfect storm of tools, work ethic, temperament, mind, and collegiate experience. You can’t recreate that with a computer program.

By all accounts this kid is a perfectionist in his own mind, and is continuously working hard to perfect his craft. This brings me back my earlier post in another thread, that you can tell he has a love for the game!!

I agree with Anselmheifer, but I can also see why the team would largely stop talking about it, lol.

In the end, it’s not the equivalent of having Chat GPT write your term paper. You still have to put in actual work in addition to real world reps. Jayden appears to have a Championship caliber work ethic. Maybe there will be a time when he outgrows his desire to use this tool, but if something works for you why stop? The tech is only going to get better.

Good points for sure Ansel

I had read somewhere that this is very labor intensive to set up and that the company pioneering it is rather small and that limits how much they can do. I’m sure it will be copied soon by another company or is already, but is it as effective as the original???

Couple of points on that QB Tier list:

1) Matthew Stafford at 5 is baffling. The dude is old and has been very mediocre over the last few seasons. Last year he was 12th in QBR and 13th in EPA. Daniels was 4th in both of those. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any dislike for Stafford and he's tough as nails and can be fun to watch, but would any GM/HC in their right mind take him over Daniels?

2) Regardless, my absolute favorite thing about these QB Tier lists (especially the ones by NFL coaches, GMs, and scouts, because they're hard to just dismiss) is seeing Eagles fans getting triggered and yelling about how Hurts is ranked too low.

JD5 use of the vr training shouldn't be overstated. Jayden reminds me a little of Payton Manning in the sense that he always said there maybe QB's in this league that maybe more talented but nobody will out prepare me. Jayden has that same mentality and looks like he has the talent too. Bonus

I think it shouldn’t be understated, personally. It’s a great example of how he takes what other people dabble in to the extreme in search of greatness

From what little I know about the VR training I think it is an excellent tool. I think he speeds the game up virtually to like 125% so that he can recognize and react faster.

From my understanding he gets to see so many various defenses from all of the teams based on actual live situations and previous plays. Hence the reason for the opportunity to process information faster. But it also requires a lot of dedication and an intelligent mind, which is all on JD.

I hear the training development program takes a lot of work hence the reason for the lack of widespread use. I have no clue about the pricing for this. But understanding our new management and the success he's had I'm sure they are all in in paying for it.

I was a Drake Maye before the draft but I'm really thankful that we got JD

Two things can be true at the same time:

1) The VR system that JD uses is groundbreaking and very helpful
2) JD is a naturally fast processor and hard worker

From everything I've read over the past year, both of those things seem to be true. The VR system is pretty revolutionary and can give JD training and reps that he can't really get anywhere else. But he also seems to be a naturally fast processor, quick learner, and hard worker.

The naturally fast processing speed and insane work ethic is what made Brady and Peyton so great, despite neither being the most physically talented QBs out there. I remember reading about how new Pats WRs would sometimes be caught off guard when they'd be out there in practice as the 4th or 5th read on a play, and suddenly see the ball coming their way when they weren't ready for it (and then Brady bitching at them for not paying attention), because the 4th or 5th read on a play is not reached about 98% of the time, and are usually just there to draw defenders away from the first reads.

Another interesting thing about Brady is that he was very diligent in putting on good mass once he got to the league and credits it (along with obsessive focus on footwork and mechanics) with actually improving his arm strength in his earlier years, which you don’t see a ton. That Daniels quote above, and the way he’s built similarly mentally, makes me think we haven’t even seen the top-end arm strength he’s capable of yet either

The Wagner influence on this locker room is so great, I usually hate when people say this about random older player but I do really hope he wants to coach and interns with us after he retires. I suspect he has different aspirations though given he’s already bought into the WNBA as a minority share team owner, I imagine he will prefer to invest and multiply his wealth like that rather than work long hours 75% of the year as a pro coach

Yep, something else about the above article about JD reminds me of something I read about Brady as well. That he relentlessly, obsessively, practiced the basics every single offseason. Most people would think "Well, it's Tom Brady and his footwork and mechanics are pretty much perfect, so he probably spends all of his time dissecting complex plays." But he would drill basic footwork and mechanics every single day over and over and over again. Which is why his were so perfect and which rolled into all other areas of his play.

Yep, I’m sure you know Manning was also famous for this. It was his biggest thing really, he just also happened to have a computer for a brain
