The 2025 Free Agency Thread

speaking of contracts...what's going on with the 2025 second round draft class? lol. is it because Cleveland and Houston doing Cleveland and Houston things?

They have completely blown things up by setting a new precedent… it’s odd and it’s going to have some lasting effects on future CBAs

I am more convinced by the day they aren't going to give him a contract he'll accept. He'll play for us in 2025 and they *might* franchise him in 2026 but I don't think a long term deal is going to get done. He used the word 'disrespect' - that tells you where it's at. We aren't close to offering what he expects.

He also said that they havnt even "talked in a month", lack of communication always breeds uncertainty, speculation and fear. Who knows where the organization is on this...thinking they have been waiting on the market. Pretty sure they come to an agreement once negotiations ramp up.

I keep hear fans saying that. Why are you so sure?

I wonder how much he expects. I think $30-32 million is fair market value. If the team isn’t offering that, then he is being disrespected, but if they are offering that and he’s refusing, then that’s his fault.

Agree, it certainly looks like it at this point.

Seems to me its his age they're bothered with most - It's the thing he spoke to, that even though statistically the numbers do drop at his age-point, he feels his (mere) 7 years in the league means he may not follow the normal trend.

I also feel they won't buy that, unfortunately. They'll look at those stats & say the numbers don't lie. Business can be brutal

So, I’m rethinking my interpretation of Terry or his camp saying he didn’t want to reset the market. At first, I thought that meant he was looking for a “fair” somewhat above market deal. Now, I’m wondering if not wanting to reset the market was his way of saying he wants his contract to match the top deals.

Is he looking for $38 or $40 when the team has been in the 28-32 range?

Because of the following:
1) Terry wants to play football, he's the type that would play for free in a different time. Regardless of what "insult" is thrown his way, it will be generational wealth
2) Washington wants Terry to play for them .
3) Terry will retire a Skin

Do you remember when DG28 sat out awaiting a new contract? It is part of the business that we fans get all worked up over (myself included) that is being handled by adults now. We'll be OK, TM is wanted here by ownership, QB, the locker room and coaching staff.

Monk retired a Skin, but didn't finish his career with us.

Terry, IMO, peaked last year. Another great year would be awesome, but after that I'd hate throwing money at a player on the down slide.

It appears as though we're heading towards Terry playing out his current contract and then probably franchising him next year which gives us another two years of Terry. I'm good with this if this is where we end up. I do not want to overpay or give him an extra year because that is not good business for the team.

Great franchises know when to cut bait and they stick to it.

I doubt any news happens until next week when the team reports to camp. Same thing with the 2nd rounders.

Yeah, that whole second rounder thing is really weird. I have to say I don't fully understand it. 30 of the second rounders are unsigned?

That’s what I’m talking about. Preserve him as a rotational guy and let him hunt when we’ve got a lead
