(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

Careful, I’ve been called delusional on this thread for suggesting the old logo could someday be used on a throwback. And the fact that they’re not taking this opportunity to do it is admittedly another nail in the coffin for it. But until Josh Harris actually comes out and says it like he eventually did with keeping the C name, there’s always a chance. As it stands, there is evidence that they’ve left the door slightly cracked open. We’ve seen them testing the waters by using the logo at the stadium and in their marketing—basically making sure the logo doesn’t get erased completely or deemed as offensive. Again, I realize it’s at best a longshot (and even more so now) but it’s a bit unfair to say it’s a delusional opinion. I guess it bothers people that some fans want to keep hope alive and if so they should be calling for Josh Harris to put a stop to the speculation, which he could easily do, but at this point has chosen not to. If/when he does, that’s when I’ll give up on it.

I’d like to remind everybody that it was far from over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!

I’m sorry if the delusional comment struck a nerve - and trust me if I’m wrong about them never again using Native American imagery I will not only apologize, I will be happy about it.

As far as Josh Harris goes, I called him out repeatedly for being non-commital on a rebranding but refusing to put the question to bed. And he continues to let fans twist over the other remaining questions.

Sorry again for the ‘delusional’ comment. It is possible to be thrilled about all of the good stuff the new ownership has done and the direction of the org and team and still take issue with how the ‘rebranding’ (or more accurately, the lack of it) has been handled.

I’m not going to apologize for annoying people with my take on this stuff - because Ive earned the ****ing right to whatever my opinion is. And so have you and every other Washington fan.

They read into it because the team refuses to be transparent about what it thinks and what its plans are.

Yeah...are you sure?

Josh Harris: "We are sticking with Commanders, the old name is not coming back."
Fans: "Old uniforms means OLD NAME IS COMING BACK WHOOOO WHEEEEE!"

Even Kevin Sheehan, who I like, was still asking/complaining about the old logo and name. (I think it was Sheehan anyway)

I think you are describing a tiny minority of fans. I think the vast majority of fans understand the name is never coming back and that it’s highly likely that’s also the case for the logo.

It was an example--but fans got all excited about a spear because a team photo shoot. Nothing else, no rumors, no hints from the team, just a picture. At this point, they should take photos in front of a plain white background.

I did too. I didn't even notice that. I was too busy enjoying the legend and great ceremony it was. Clown-pounding the Panthers was a blast too--despite Daniels going out.
I didnt either until I got home and saw the shirts we purchased up close.

Yes this spear part got me excited for this. I was expecting the spear on the helmet and got the god awful W. I actually liked the Numbers on the helmet as the wft over the w

And I just saw the commanders name is not on the throwback jersey.

i don't believe many if any of the fans really believe there is a chance of the name coming back . . . but it is confusing to release a series of promotional pictures in stages with spears and roman "commanders" leading to the uniform release . . . why do any of that?

Exactly. You read in what you wanted to read in, because you hate the W. That's on you man. The team cannot reasonably expect to temper anyone's wild imaginations. I go back to--how many times has Harris had to address the old logo and name--even Sheehan who isn't exactly a Lynell Willingham, hot-take-bullshit machine is asking for them. There's only so much they can do. They can't hold a press conference to dispel every wild hair the fan base gets.

Josh - is that you?

Sheehan doesn't think the name is coming back, but he thinks the logo may come back at some point.

Like others here, I think he's right: The logo was never the issue. So just bring it back as a throwback. The Titans wear Oilers throwbacks, but don't call themselves the Oilers on those days...we should be able to do the same thing.

We'll see, the cultural winds that caused us to lose the name in the first place (along with many other factors) are shifting already. But up to this point both Harris and the league have been very clear on that issue.

Some of the groups applying pressure for the name change didn’t want ANY use of NA imagery - I believe this was one of the reasons why Jason Wright didn’t pursue Warriors or even Wolves as those were specifically (and imho ridiculously) criticized as having Native American connotations.

I don’t know if the anti-woke wave has washed away those concerns enough to allow NA imagery now or not.

But there were plenty of objections to the logo and NA iconography at the time of the change. And yes - I know about the Chiefs.

To be completely honest, I don’t want it back full time and would not be happy if it WAS brought back full time. I take pride in what we were, it’s part of what made me a fan. I have numerous representations of that logo in my basement.

What I don’t want is the distracting controversy back, and make no mistake, it was a controversy and it was distracting. We can honor the past but also leave it in the past and look to the future.

why all the promos with the roman shit and the spears?? are they intentionally toying with the fans? they had to know what rumors those images were going to conjure up.

I keep saying this but those were leaked images, not official. We still have no idea what that stuff was photographed/filmed for.

Probably a SNF promo or something, but hopefully more

Also, for me we don’t want to find ourselves stuck somewhere between woke/anti-woke in perpetuity. I’m not interested in my team being used as a political football.

Again, better to just move forward in the way they are doing it now. Nods to the past without the At best “problematic” Native American branding.
