(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

My Brother in Redskins, I understand why you would feel that way, but look at this putrid pic with the WOSH and Mrs. WOSH and look at todays pic.

I get it, and like I said, I don't expect anyone to agree. But there are ~23 years bad memories, vs. two. Plus I associate Harris, Daniels, Quinn, Kingsbury, Peters, Luvu, Sanristil, et al with Commanders. Our hope, right now, is in Commanders. We don't have to look back to what we were 30 years ago. The Hail Mary was in the Black Jersey. Beating TB and DET were in the Arizona Whites (those still need to change). Here is the other thing--the Name Nuts (no one here, I am talking about the loonies who want Redskins and Snyder instead of Commanders and Harris) have tarnished them. Their constant bitching and moaning about the name, the uniforms, has been so tiring, I don't want them to get their way, at all. Yes, it's quite petty.

Like I am sure I will change my mind--but that's initial impression and reaction.

As for pictures, what's worse, that one or this:

I think it's fair to say there as as many great memories, if not more, last year alone than Snyder's entire tenure. There's certainly more hope. Maybe I am just wanting to move forward than rather constantly looking back.

I have never been a fan of trying to ‘Redskinize’ the Commanders brand. Once they changed the team identity, it just feels inauthentic and like pandering to me, but I know I am in the extreme minority so that’s the only comment I’ll make about it.

I totally get it. I have been one who advocates for going in a totally new direction with the branding—for instance, the Roman centurion vibe of those leaked spear pics got me kind of excited (since we’re stuck with this name). I was imagining lots of things you could do with the branding concept of the iconic Roman shield wall, the teamwork symbolism of it all, etc.

When they were changing the name originally (before revealing Commanders as the choice) I was actually advocating for totally new colors and everything, a total break with previous eras. I’m one of those fans who is also sick of always looking back to our history rather than moving forward with a modern winning brand. I hate when fans older than myself can’t help but to ALWAYS comp incoming rookies to Redskins legends of the past as if it’s their only reference point for the sport.

Anyways, hopes for better branding died originally with the Commanders reveal and the Snyders ruined all that, of course. They were never going to be the ones to pull it off. It was never going to be bold or imaginative. I’ve accepted it as the cost of getting new ownership, the final nail in Snyder’s coffin when he killed the brand.

With this new crew, because they’re competent or better in most other categories…I’ve landed on “I don’t mind being pandered to by people who know what they’re doing”. If that turns out to remain true of this ownership group over time, I’ll continue to feel that way. I still hope we ditch Major Tuddy and lean into a new flavor of warrior for the vague “Commanders” gimmick (like the Roman spear legions idea), but the uniforms being pure fan-service I can accept at this point. It is what it is, as long as it’s designed well and looks good.

I understand and goodness knows I am not gonna tell you how "to fan." I think this will play out how it plays out and merch sales is gonna be telling on how this goes.

I am sure they will sell like wildfire. I am sure I will come around on them. And I get the excitement--but, for me, there's a lot of bad associated with those jerseys as there is good.

I don't get this. "Washington is calling these the "Super Bowl era" uniforms and helmet, which pay homage to its most successful period in the 1980s and 1990s". I have a 90s full size right next to me and it's gorgeous and very shiny. These alternate helmets are definitely matte. Why??!!

It’s pretty hard not to have ‘Redskinization’ with a throwback uniform, no? I suppose they could have used the Football Team. 😈

Put me down as one who thinks a WFT throwback someday would be pretty funny

So when Josh Harris said last winter “we are going back to our brand” he was literally telling the truth…minus the obvious change of the logo and name.

I’m excited to see what else they do. A massive step in the right direction was taken today.

Without the old logo I dont give a shit about the uniform. They are going to lose even more fans denying the logo.
Even a spear would have been better. That w sucks so bad and all hope of the team having any good feelings from the fans was just pissed away.

The team will continue to lose fans.
