Haynesworth inactive

Fannie, (see I can be passive aggressive too!), have you completely missed the interents message boards where people are greatly unhappy with Shanahan? I don't think people are by and large giving him a free pass. Now, given Fat Al's actions, it makes him easier to bash. But if you hadn't notice, there are not a lot of people that think it's cool that Shan-lett took a top 10 defense and transformed it to dead last in the league. Lots o' people are questioning his personnel decisions and gameplans, and the nepotism showed his son.

The honeymoon may not be officially over for Shanny, but it is getting damned close. And yes, I too am embarrassed to be a Skins fan this year, particularly (but not limited to) because of how the Fat Al sage has been handled.

well then...we're oarsmen on the same Redskin fan bireme!

I know this post wasn't directed at me, but I have to jump in here.

I have managed groups of the type you speak of. I've run service departments for a few very large auto dealerships. The largest had 50 + service people, the smallest, 35. You'll not likely find a more diverse group then a group of auto techs, and let me tell you, techs are often prim a donas.

In all cases, there was little subtlety involved. I identified the skill sets of each and every worker, in each class of service person from prep to "A" technicians. Every person had their strong points, and once identified, it was easy to get them to produce.

I was brought up with the mind set that if you're 10 minutes early, you're on time. At three minutes before start time, I would make the normal announcement to break up the BS sessions.... "hit it ladies, asses and elbows." While my workers were always allowed to question why they were doing something, they new not to question doing it or not. They knew I would never ask them to do something unethical, or illegal, and if they hedged on what they were told to do, they knew there was somebody waiting in the wings to replace them. You did what you were told, period... the end.

I ran service for Pontiac / Fiat, Chevy / Geo, and Honda. All the shops were productive and profitable. I also ran a number of small independent shops that have thrived.

Tell me why running a football team is any different ?

Pete, you have told the whole truth. Once had a tech that was exceptional, but would be late and had a problem attitude. He was let go and he said, "you can't fire me, I am the best tech you ever had." Reply was you are very good, but if can't be on time and have a good attitude you are no good to us.

Sounds a lot like Redskins dealing with Haynesworth. I've said it before and will say again. You are being paid to do a job, so do it! We all do things in our jobs we don't like, but you do it or you're unemployed.

Again, great post Pete.

Another part in all this: Shanahan takes a LOT of the blame for the switch to 3-4 and while it may have been his call, I remember reading that he'd been in talks with Haslett for awhile, discussing the 3-4. I would say Haslett was the one that said the Redskins were ready to switch to the 3-4 immediately, when in reality they probably should have gone 4-3 for a year until we got more 3-4 personnel. Just a thought...

what about this abomination of an offense? the Shanahan's don't shoulder any of the blame?

on the flip side...businesses that don't know how to use their talent effectively eventually find themselves out of business.

oh yea...leadership, team building, etc., is more than just giving orders.

as an afterthought....shouldn't the Skins be suspending about 80-90% of the starting offense and defense? these people are clearly not executing as "directed".

What about it? We've got a collection of young "maybes" at RB (including one who couldn't crack the Cleveland Browns starting line up), the interior OL is a mess, and I'm highly doubtful any of our WRs would crack most rosters in the NFL, yet we're top 10 in passing offense and top 20 in total offense.

Personally, I give the offense a pass for this season. If the offense stinks it up again NEXT season then yes, it might be time to start foaming at the mouth. For now, it is what it is.

Id like to apologize (symbolically) to Shan and Haslett for blaming them over not playing more than they did. I thought it was Coach trying to prove some point and letting his ego get in the way of playing him but it turns out he is a fat load and has no want to play football.

go figure..

Plenty of blame to go around, don't worry.

Looking at it through "Chicken or The Egg" glasses, this is another price paid for switching to the 3-4. Making this all Shanny's doing, alone.

It's possible that this was inevitable no matter what defense we ran.

It's also possible that if the 4-3 were still the weapon of choice...

Albert attends more, if not all, of the OTA's...

He shows up at the mini-camps, both voluntary, and involuntary...

There's no need for the idiotic conditioning test...

Albert starts every game...

The defense wins us two of the games we lost...

And we're at least in the chase this December.

Very good point. A more aggreesive 4-3 is what Al is best suited for. Not to mention Carter, Fletch, McIntosh, Jarmon and Orakpo.

Not that I don't think the coaches have the right to make this decision but if they are wrong I reserve the right to say "I told you so".

And if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

For the record, Albert attended very few OTAs (if any), was late to practices, and disrespectful to coaches the year before when we were running a 4-3, so...

Ryman, it isn't just the scheme. Please note that when Brett Favre ran for 11 yards to ice the game with the Vikes a couple weeks ago we were playing a 4-3 with Haynesworth in his usually DT spot. And yeah, Al blew the pocket up but the D still allowed a 40 year old man never known for his running ability to gain enough for a first down when they absolutely had to have a stop.

I won't blast anyone for going 3-4 or 4-3. That is purely a coaching call and I admit that while I have my opinions, I am not a coach and never played the game so they are just opinions. I see nearly the same personnel on the field in either scheme, all that changes is where/how they line up. I'm thinking they just need to make a play but that might just be me.

I will blast Mike for his management. I have done that job and frankly done it better than he has done this year. You can't treat all the men the same. They don't all have the same buttons to push and don't respond the same way. Shanahan goofed bad in his handling of Al, it blew up in his face and then he had to damn much ego to reverse course and try to fix it.

ok about the scheme, it is about the 3-4 and the current scheme, our players didnt suddenly forget how to take angles and tackle, when you are forced to learn a new scheme and formations you arent playing by memory and instinct anymore, you start thinking and overthinking, this leads to playing mechanicly and not fluidly, this leads to guys not making plays they would normally make with ease. you will notice that in this new scheme guys quite often look like they should make an easy play and then hesitate and end up getting blocked, missing tackles or getting out of position. this is normal when you you make guys play in a scheme that goes against their skillset or when you teach something COMPLETELY new.

for instance, AC, he is very fast, has pretty good feet and can change direction pretty well MOVING FORWARD, He is a solid tackler and a great hitter when moving forward, but when he is dropping into a zone he looks like a robot and has whiffed several tackles in the open field moving laterally, Rak has the same issues to a lesser extent.

AH is explosive and when moving forward is almost unstoppable, but he has trouble disengaging when grabbed, he also is a good tackler for a large man, but when Olinemen stay in front of him or he has to move laterally after holding the point, he is often hesitant and gets washed out of his gap.

London Fletcher is a great instinctive LB who has always been known for his speed and open field tackling, yet this year he has been allowing guys to get 6-8 yards before tackling them, did he suddenly suck? no he is just trying to compensate for other holes and ends up making one of his own. we are trying to make him play an engage style rather than pursuit.

the problem with the scheme and how we have been lining guys up is that we are bailing on the one thing that supposedly makes the 3-4 better, unpredictability, everyone knows AC isnt dropping into coverage lol, so haslett tries to cover by blitzing randoms without accounting for their coverages. this causes missed assignments as well as mental errors. this accounts for the sudden hesitancy.

I find it funny that people still think Shanny was not at fault. I dont think AH was innocent by any stretch, he is an asshat of epic proportions but he did want to play and he did ask several times to be put in at DE in the 3-4 even shannahn admitted that, he also admitted that he wanted AH to play more at NT and AH flat out said he wasnt suited for it. Ill be frank the real losers here are the redskins fans and the team.

Former coaches Gruden and Herm Edwards support Shanahan's decision. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2010/12/ex-coaches_back_shanahan_on_ha.html

Yeah, wasn't it Gruden who said good-bye to Keyshawn?

Edit:

Like I said previously, it boils down to management styles. If you think you can deal with a trouble maker because he is great at what he does, you will likely favor Fat Al.

If you are like Pete and run Riggins 44 who have disciplined management styles, you will likely favor on the side of Shanahan.

Of course there is fault on both sides, but I believe players cannot demand how they get used! They are not in charge! If the coach says jump, you say how high! Bottom line! If you don't like it, quit!

ahem...so you think Peyton has no say in how he is used or plays?

just bear in mind: the travesty we have been observing on the field all year long? AH didn't factor much in that (except for the Chicago game). that all came courtesy of Mike and Jim....:claps:

what? are you crazy?

if a player doesn't have to do what's best for the team...why should a coach?!

I'm with ya Shanny! You go Girl!!!!

ahem...so you think Peyton has no say in how he is used or plays?

Please tell me you aren't
1) comparing the QB position to the DT position in terms of responsibility,
or
2) comparing arguably one of the greatest QBs to EVER play the game to a pretty good DT, who as of this moment isn't even a hall of famer.

Because if you're doing either of those things, there's absolutely no reasoning with you.

that's it? "it is what it is"

ok! that's what I'll tell my boss next time!!!!

No, that's not it. You skipped over everything in my post except for that one sentence. How about addressing the entire post?

Bill Walsh himself would have trouble getting something out of the offensive sill players we have now. Yes, it is what it is at this point...I guess a top-10 passing offense doesn't impress you with the receivers we have? Because it should.

ahem...so you think Peyton has no say in how he is used or plays?

That is an invalid argument in this case and my statement did not infer something so foolish! I did not say those disciplined management styles would not allow input from their employees, especially one who has earned the leeway to handle it, like a QB who nows what audibles to call and when to call them. Of course any good business would! But the skilled or unskilled laborers are not the bosses.

And I strongly believe Peyton Manning is the type of player who would not go crying to the media every chance he gets if he doesn't like what his coach is doing nor does he ask for a trade.

Will Caldwell be the coach next year? Unlikely if they can't make the playoffs! Will Peyton get his deal? Probably! But the whole situation is not playing out in the media making the Colts look like a three ring circus!
