(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

And if it wasn't for that over 40 crowd holding down the fort, they'd have picked up in the middle of the night , moved to Iowa and been rebranded as the Des Moine Screamin Demons. Dance with the one that brung ya

It would be interesting to see the percentage of our fanbase that is over 40.
A minority probably, but still a significant portion, I would think.

Ownership doesnt have to only cater to one or the other. With the allowance of three helmets now, plus at least three different uniforms ( and variations thereof ), they should try to appease that over 40 crowd also, if for no other reason than they have been with you the longest, through a lot of thick and thin. So far they've been given next to nothing.
And they're still here.

Over 40?? Heck I would predict a overwhelming majority

It wouldn't surprise me. Heck, the glory years were over thirty years ago. You'd have to have been forty to even have a dim memory of them. Good times have been sparse since then.

I would think that is dependent on the parameters used for determining and defining ‘our fanbase’. Current, historical? So many of the older, loyal fans have abandoned the team (for a variety of reasons) and they will be tough to replace with those of the TikTok generation who will quickly move on to the next shiny object at a moment’s notice.

The TikTok generation won't move on for the next 10 years. Jayden Daniels is going to keep us relevant with young people and anybody that likes football.

But will they support the team through the purchase of single game tickets, season tickets and the impending personal seat licenses? We’ll see. They will buy gear though as long as the team and Jayden meet expectations.

I mean, if that ends up being a problem it wouldn't really matter whether you catered to older fans or not. You either make new fans who buy all the things fans buy, or you inevitably die off, and I don't really see why this would be an issue unique to us.

My point is that I hope they don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. I believe that currently the 40+ fans are the most economically important and largest segment of the fanbase. Now I wouldn’t say that the organization has given them nothing because a competitive and winning team to cheer for and a proposed stadium at a historic and revered site is a lot. More than enough for me. But I’m not a social media influencer so what do I know.

That said…I certainly wouldn’t mind uniforms more in keeping with the franchise’s history, modernized to a point of course.

The on the field, stadium part has been great, so far.
Personally, I was just referencing branding, uniforms, etc.
More of what you were saying here:

And this is something Ive been saying should be kept in mind, also.

I believe that currently the 40+ fans are the most economically important

The owner's wife trying to self brand the team as America's Team is tone deaf and out of touch.

I've actually spent money on DC defenders gear. It's not bad.

The Commanders name and those hideous uniforms and ridiculously lame helmet though. I'll stick with ebaying for Redskins stuff.

The thing is, you can buy Redskins stuff and people still know what you mean. It's a statement in itself at this point.

I’m with you on that. I was actually willing to get on board with anything but the Snyder name, but now looks like I’ll permanently be sporting Redskin stuff as well. And we are far from the only ones. It’s probably for the best that there are a lot of us doing that, because we’ve already seen the beginnings of the predictable push to completely erase the name and logo from history.

My wife wore her Redskins jersey to work the other day for Sports day. Somebody told her that team doesn't exist anymore but at least she wasn't wearing ugly Commanders gear.

The Lions fan still knew who knocked them out of the playoffs.

We did a number on the Lions. We killed their playoffs, but I think it can also be said that play a part in their beloved Ben Johnson going to a rival. The hail mary shattered the Bears when they still had a winning season. They might not have melted down and kept their head coach another season.

I think we may have made a rival out of them. Too bad they don't have any big wins against us to soothe their egos.

55 years old here, so I too can fall into the "old man shakes fist at cloud" category...

I don't HATE the black uniforms, I just think the helmet design was lazy. A matte black helmet with the maroon "W" outlined in yellow, or a yellow "W" outlined in red? Much better.

And if you replaced all of the black trim on the white jerseys with yellow, it would look significantly better.

I just looked it up, There are still companies that make/sell Roanoke Buckskins jerseys (at one point I believe they were basically a farm club for the Redskins in the ACFL.) I wonder what her co-workers would have said about that one.

I have that impression from the Lions fans I know. We play them this year, and I’m sure they’ve circled that game on their calendar. DQ should prepare for it like a rivalry game.

The Redskins and Lions are two of the oldest franchises in the NFL, so there is some history there. I’m old enough to remember the 1991 NFC Championship and Brad Johnson body slamming Robert Porcher in the 1999 wild card game. I’m sure there are many others such moments, but it’s been a pretty one-sided rivalry.

I agree about the black trim on the white jersey, but I understand there is some rule that says they must include black in one of the primary uniforms in order to have black alternates. I am not 100% sure about that if anybody can confirm.

During one of the nadirs (there were so many ... ) of the Snyder Regime, I began to wish that the team would pick up and move. I had become disgusted, yet could not officially sever ties with the team I had cheered since I was 7 years old. A departure would have made the decision for me. And I knew we would get a new team during the next round of expansion and it would not include Snyder.

And here we are. New name, newish uniforms, an impending dome in DC, and no Snyder. I guess a variation of it happened.

I turn 60 in a month and a half. I will celebrate by yelling at a cloud.

I’m the OG old guy yelling at clouds which is why I mentioned it
