Thanks for posting SkinsNumberOne - yep I got that pinch me moment too - so new & cool to be in that contender conversation after soooo long out of it - was just reading this on ESPN.com also - one stat I wasn't aware of - no NFC East divisional winner has repeated as the winner, for the last 20 years!

Hmm.... I wonder who's best placed to keep that stat rolling?
 
I just heard a bit on the Galdi show replaying an interview with Troy Aikman on the Ryan Rosillo podcast. Has that been posted? I think the podcast came out a week ago and I haven’t read the entire thread.

If it isn’t been posted I can find the clip….

It’s pretty effusive praise from Aikman.

What’s not on this clip is the question: Rosillo asked about what Aikman had learned from coaches or what impressed him in the pre-game interviews with coaches. He basically posits “coaches say nothing.” Then immediately, unprompted, launched into the clip above about Daniels.

Worth a watch.

I'm simultaneously torn between my appreciation for what he's saying, and my hatred for all things Dallas...

i think the fact it’s Aikman is … more relevant. He’s a HOF QB who still is extremely close to the league. He still studies the games and knows all the players, coaches and schemes.

His opinion is one of the few “subject matter experts” I appreciate. Kurt Warner is another. Guys who did it at the highest level and are still very involved and engaged without any particular bias. Sure Troy’s a former cowboy, but he gets nothing out of not being honest.

I think the other notable and respectable thing here is, this was not a "lip-service" quote. He went into some depth - there wasn't any key details which would have been nice, like what exactly he noticed (that would have played 100 times better to my overall point here), but if your mention of the question is right - then it seems to me he did jump to Jayden for a good chunk of time with little prompting which is telling, and unnecessary on his part too.

That said, at this point, honestly the whole NFL is actually buzzing. During "Super Bowl week" I was kind of surprised with how much coverage Jayden got. It felt like it was Jayden week, pretty much. So right now his star is shining as brightly as I have seen any player on this team since... maybe Riggins or Theismann? I mean, this team has been an overlooked and undersold type of team since probably those days, I feel like. I didn't get the national hype impression even in 1991.

The light is shining very brightly right now. Hopefully it makes it even easier for AP to do his job, and maybe for ONCE we can get value on contracts. It was always so impossible in the past. Now it's the other direction, it will be disappointing to see ANY overpays. Back then, we'd be happy to get ONE value contract!
 
I’ll be honest, the last QB I can remember who basically got his teams to late playoff runs based on their own considerable will the way JD5 did this year was young John Elway.

Those early Broncos teams weren’t great teams. They consistently fell behind and then turned to Elway to bail them out. Which is why for a while he had more come from behind wins than anybody.

I’m not saying Daniels is Elway. Or is going to be Elway. Elway is in the argument for top 5 QB in NFL history.

But the Commanders team didn’t have a great roster. They were well coached, well schemed, and a very tight group of players. But they weren’t as talented as other teams in the playoffs.

I still think Jason Kelce is basically right: if you go position by position, and pick the starter between the Eagles and Commanders, 90% of the team would be Eagles.

Daniels had a season where he lifted the entire team because of his play. Peters has to figure out how to make the roster better as quickly as possible without mortgaging the future to take advantage of JD5’s rookie contract. It’s going to be a tough balancing act.

Yeah, that Eagles team was also the modern version of the 80s Redskins and Giants teams that smoked Elway in the SB. Our lines are even undersized too, just like the Broncos were.

Hopefully that isn't a sign. Daniels didn't make any mistakes at least. Elway always threw some picks.

He got his knife to a gun fight and then slashed around a little bit and then got shot in those first 3 SBs. The worst was probably the last when the 49er “made them humble.” I just remember watching that game and whoever the commentator was said “Joe Montana will have 200 yards at the half and he missed Rice on two deep balls. Just a great player having an average half.” (Summarized from 30 years ago, might have gotten some of that wrong.)

Elway knew his teams had little chance unless he was Superman. Ironically, the team they had the best chance to beat was us in 1987. And that didn’t play out well for them.

I’m really glad he got back with the Shanahan teams and that running game and defense.
