I see Peters bringing in two additional linemen that can compete for reps this year.

It may be a #2 or #4 pick plus another veteran.

Agree that Deiter can’t play in a spot starter role. When Tyler got hurt Deiter was awful.

He probably could but he may be a stud guard, kind of a similar story to Cosmi

I think they’re going to try Coleman at RT, slide Wylie in to RG while Cosmi is out.

I also think you’ll see them draft another guard at some point.

They need a new backup center. Deiter was horrific. Allegretti was even calling protections for him.

And FWIW, is STILL resign Lucas. Dude is a professional, and cheap. He can be the third or 4th tackle. Would be fantastic to have that’s as your baseline depth guy.

With Tunsil, Biadasz and Coleman I think you have 3 starters for the OL with Cosmi joining that group during the year after rehab.

It's a pretty young group overall.

Allegretti is still here and may end up starting, but I put him a level below these other players in terms of upside and consistent play.

He is a player we could definitely upgrade from.

I would really like to jettison Wiley and his fat contract, he and Payne the last of the big rip contracts Ron and Co. negotiated.

But it looks like he is back for another year, hopefully as the swing tackle - which means he's not starting 17 games.

Wylie’s contract isn’t bad anymore, is it? And he was surprisingly functional last year in the new scheme. Now that we’ve lost Lucas, I’d need a lot more OL eggs in our basket before I’d be comfortable getting rid of Wylie, he’s pretty essential right now

This draft is relatively weak at center. Can we do what the Cowboys did with Beebe last year and take a guard or tackle with good center traits and have him learn the center position? Guys like Charles Grant from WM and Luke Kandra from Cincinatti fit this

I kinda still want to see him at tackle, but I'm happy as long as he finds a place to flourish.

Tackle would be nicer just because I don't want his role to become the bench after Cosmi comes back. Then again, if he plays great then maybe Cosmi becomes a cut or a future cash casualty.

I think I’d prefer him on the left if he transitions I side. Allegretti would have an easier time moving/playing on a different side (Coleman played almost exclusively on the left in college), and I’d rather Coleman not get displaced when Cosmi returns.
Of course the calculus could potentially change if we land a good guard (or tackle) option in the draft…

I think there’s no question they’re going to at least try and hope Coleman is going to win the RT job.

Then they have options at guard.

They have to find a way to make Deiter a call cut. If they don’t it means they have really weak depth at center.

I think Herbig was a really big signing. He can now fill the backup center position as Deiter was a disaster and they have others to play guard should Bad Ass get hurt. And the dirty little secret that nobody wants to talk about is Cosmi was not really all that great last year although solid in pass pro. If Coleman slides to RT and is an upgrade then this starting OL has been improved by a good measure and the depth is pretty solid as well. Paul was a pretty good backup OG and Wylie is the swing tackle. I don't want to see Scott on the field.
