Peters, Harris, Quinn. Also, Garrett is 29. He's not a 37 year old Bruce Smith. Deion Sanders was 33. Ward is 29. Higgins is 26. We have Daniels. We wouldn't be signing a 33 year old Geoff George. I guess Khalil Mack is a little older, but he's had a PFF score over 90 the last 2 years and wouldn't even be the splash move at DE or the primary pass rusher. It's night and day different. I get that a lot of people still have Snyder, Cerrato PTSD. This isn't that group. And honestly, I'd prefer the Cerrato approach to the bargain bin Bruce Allen approach 10 out of 10 times.
I'm not saying that it needs to be the guys I prefer, but when you're a game away from the super bowl and have a QB that was a top 5 QB, as a rookie, and you have another 4 years on his rookie contract, you'd be foolish not to be aggressive in the same way the Eagles always are. Do you think any Eagles fans say, "This looks like the '2000 Redskins", when Howie Roseman is aggressive?

The thing about doing that is you HAVE TO win. That kind of haul is gonna suck up allllll the cap space. And by the time those contracts are ending Jayden (and probably Mike too, CBs get paid good money too) is gonna get a massive contract.
Barring some major Watson/Wilson level mistake we won't be underwater but we also won't have major space for a while either.
But yes that roster would absolutely be a contender if the draft picks hit.

I think Godwin is a great receiver and have no problem if we go that way. I do think he'll be at least 85% as expensive as Higgins. The only reasons I prefer Higgins over Godwin are, Higgins is 26, which means when Terry is 3 years older, we will still have a receiver in his prime, and, we haven't seen Godwin take productive snaps after his season ending injury. He's already had an ACL. I would be nervous that Godwin makes a 93% and not a 100% recovery. There is risk there of signing a diminished player. Also, it would be nice to have an extremely long, 6'4" guy, to complement Terry's deep speed and ball tracking. I just think it's a natural fit.
In any case, we may not sign any big names at WR. as long as we are being aggressive overall, I am fine. We have our window because of our QB. We don't have a roster that could otherwise compete with a number of the top teams. Now is the time to try to aggressively remedy that.

We have too many holes to commit 2x #1s AND a 30M/yr contract to him. You could probably get a guy like Mack, those two 1st round draftees, and maybe another positional player for the same cap hit. Is he worth a 4:1 deal, where the 4 players are likely starters?
On top of that, if you are going to go out and start waving around multiple 1st.... they better be comparing this against what else they could get for those picks in trades for other positions. Could we get a really good starting Tackle for one 1st and a stud second WR for another 1st, then sign Khalil Mack and be in a much better position?
Basically, it's a "too many eggs into ONE basket" type of deal for my tastes.

I mostly don't agree with you. I think Garrett would be a miller addition. We are used to viewing our 1sts as having a certain value. Our 1sts are probably going to be almost 2nds from now on.
Also, regardless of whether it is Myles Garrett, or other FA, one thing this team has been lacking are those players that other teams cannot physically match up to. Philly has a whole OL full of them, Jalen Carter, Brown, etc. We have Jayden, maaaaaybe Terry, and Maaaaybe Lattimore, if he rebounds. We don't have any of these imposing athletic players that other top teams have. Guys that you have to scheme around, or they can wreck the game. We could really use one on offense and one on defense, and getting one at edge, would be a major coup.
One thing I do agree with though is that if we are thinking of trading picks, we have to look at what else could be available for those picks. If I thought we could get Tristan Wirfs instead of Myles, maybe I'd do that, based on age and wanting to protect Jayden. I think it's obvious though that Peters and staff will be considering every possible opportunity and the cost associated. This is a very process oriented group. They aren't going to short sightedly make a move without considering all the possible courses of action they could take.

The likelihood of either of those late two first producing like Garrett will the next 5 years is unlikely too.
As it stands right now, Cleveland is both unwilling and unable to trade Garrett bc of their horrid cap situation (I think on that latter part anyway)

How many firsts would they send us along with Garrett to get that deal done? Multiple firsts, and all we would need to send back is a 2030 7th rounder, the contact info for Cam Cheeseman, and Ron Rivera's draft notes.
If there are any truths to the DK Metcalf rumors, THAT would be a guy I would be inquiring about. If the price wasn’t too prohibitive, a la Garrett’s asking price, he and Terry would be the best receiving tandem in the league. Would almost certainly help the run game, as defenses would have to account for both of those guys.

I wonder what it would take to get Metcalf. 79? More? Less?
I'd also be poking around with Garrett Wilson but his youth probably costs more. How much more is the question.
That being said, I would be strongly considering those options. Esp Wilson. Both have a solid amount of good football ahead of them, Wilson esp, he only turns 25 this year.

A couple of things come to mind with all this talk about Metcalf and Garrett.
Garrett is better than Jalen Carter. Plus, he had big smiles when he was asked about possibly playing for us. He is worth all the effort to see IF we can get him here.
Metcalf would be a dream size guy with that speed and attitude. I just know nothing about him in general so does he fit the Commander role? To me....he is better than AJ Brown so his cost, etc. would be a worthwhile conversation.

fans make me laugh. all season we need an edge rusher we need an edge rusher. best edge rusher in the league a future hall of famer possibly becomes available and people are like noooooooooo its to expensive. If im AP im the 1st one to call cleveland everyday to get the deal done. then you run dont walk to pick him up.
A player like garret immediatley transforms this defense from top to bottom. Garret and fowler/armstrong on the edges, payne/newton/allen in the middle, Wagner holding down the middle, Uso being moved all over the place, all that will take the pressure off the secondary which will improve immidiatly.

Garrett is looking for another big contract at 30 yrs old. Let AP go shopping for the groceries whether it be FA or the draft. I hope we pass on Garrett.
Garrett played for Cleveland last year. He "transformed" them into 19th overall, about 5 spots below the edge needing Commanders. He is an amazing talent, but he is human. Let's keep things in perspective
There is not one on our D. I don't think anyone is debating him being an absolute stud. But that same stud alone did not turn Clevelands D into the 85 Bears either. Garret ain't gonna be free. He's gonna cost a bunch of assets. Spend them wisely (but still spend them.) I personally would love to have him on our team, but I'd also like a lot of things that I don't want to pay for.

so your saying adding "an absolute stud' to the 13th ranked d wont improve it? this team needs a pass rusher. theres a less than 5% chance that any player we pick with those picks turn out better. We have 3 yrs with a cheap daniels take advantage

1) Garrett didn't transform the Cleveland defense - they were still bottom half. One player doesn't make a defense.
2) This type of fantasy football thinking more often than not backfires, and isn't the path to sustained success
3) Our roster is FULL OF HOLES - we literally canned half the team last year... that is absolutely NOT the right team to go ALL IN on one player
In no universe is Metcalf better than AJ Brown. We should be excited to get him as a #2 next to Terry, but this fanbase would be ecstatic to have Terry be the #2 to AJ Brown.
