What Would You Like For The New Name Of This Team?

More seriously, Red Wolves are cool. My inner nerd does prefer Werewolf.

Yep. Some very good suggestions on here, but these are still my top two.

WFT—while I do like the rebellious implication against the forces that cost us the name to begin with, the problem is it also came from Snyder. This would be my last pick, only ahead of commanders.
Being unserious again, the problem with the WFT is the same one posed by the Commanders. There's no good nicknames... unless you go with Teamsters.

Werewolves does that, too.

Besides, Red Wolves, Warriors, and the lot were Dan Snyder alsorans. Those were on his list of names we "voted" for before the ahem, cough, cough bullshit name Commanders won. Do we really want a retread Dan Snyder choice?
I’ll give you some love for werewolves. I like it. Instead of turning into wolves at full moon, it happens at game time!

Wolves
Warriors
Sentinels
This is literally my shortlist. And let's avoid anything Redxxxxx. I would actually prefer Commanders to anything that contrived. Especially the awful Redwolves suggestion.

Had to google that. A quote from Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

I tend to agree on contrived, and I have thought that way about this and other “Red” names since this debate started in 2020. My support of Redwolves now is more to appease that portion of the fanbase that really likes that name. I still think not being Red anything is the best choice.

Wolves alone would be best. You still get all the benefits of Redwolves without the comparison to Redskins.

I also add Washington Wolverines as another name I could dig.

Wolverines are definitely an animal worthy of football mascothood, but they don't live in the DMV.

How about "Copperheads"? They're local, and they're deadly.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about this "red" thing. The only thing red with this team is what's in the previous name, Redskins. Without Redskins, there is no red. Our colors are burgundy and gold and have been for a long time. And since the powers that be are dumping Redskins, red doesn't fit very well anymore. I googled the color of our jerseys in 1932 when we were the Boston Braves, and, according to the site I saw, the Braves wore BLUE jerseys. The team apparently moved to maroon jerseys in 1933 when they became the Redskins. It seems apparent that the jerseys changed from blue to maroon because the team changed names from Braves to Redskins. My point is, if we are dumping the name Redskins, we might also be wise to dump "red" if we're trying to think up a name that ownership will accept. Ownership may very well recognize this connection and dismiss anything with red in it automatically.

People tell me I over-think things. I don't know why. :(

There's also got to be something modern that speaks to this generation. If it was thirty years ago, I might have suggested Washington Stealth with a logo of the Stealth Bomber. Heck, I might have contacted Lucas Arts or Disney and asked for the licencing rights to become the Washington Jedi.

I'm not sure if there's something really cool out there today that would be timeless enough. I suppose we could be super nerdy and go with the Washington Kaiju, but I think that's too nerdy and most people would be clueless.

Well it's not as if the native peoples of the Americas actually have red skin. ;)

Burgundy is a variation of Red. As I understand it, those colors were picked because they are similar to those of Harvard and Boston College. The Braves/Skins began in Boston and it was the college football influence.

I still like Red Wolves or Warriors.
In the short lived TV show Minority Report, we won a Super Bowl as Red Cloud.
We could get away with Blackfeet or Blackfoot and keep the old logo. It would make our Steelers knock-off unis have a little more sense.
Seems unfortunate, but I think we are stuck with singing Hail to the Commies.

I’d say the current uniforms are actually red. Closer to red than burgundy anyway. Also I don’t think we are “dumping” Redskins, more like it was taken from us. I don’t see the new owners having a problem with a red- name, but I guess we’ll see.

And yes, you are overthinking things 😁😁

When Snyder owned the team I suggested that he go with something that accurately described the owner, since he was going to be making the decision anyway. We all knew that asking all of us for input was BS. So Washington Wankers would have fit. But then he sold the team so I have no idea. Anything but Commanders. Exactly 0 of us fans asked for that name.

They could go back to the old uniforms, including the helmet and call them what a 3 year old would, The Washington Wedskins :ROFLMAO:
