Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow with Dio on vocals was always a hot band to me that fell into the early metal/hard rock tweeners

I see where you are coming from. For me, the seeds of heavy metal was the driving guitar and lead vocals of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" (1968) and then, when the soul reaching percussion of John Bonham was established as a benchmark, the road map was established. Good time for great music!

Here's my daughter, a member on this site, and a previous member of ES, shooting 8-ball in San Francisco in the summer of 2021 with Marcus Malone, aka Marcus The Magnificent, a drummer and founding member with Santana. He was 77 years old in this video. Sadly, he passed away a few months later.



Below is a cool video from Dec 2013 - Carlos heard Marcus, who had left the band, was hitting hard times, and so he tracked him down. If you look closely, you'll see a vanilla envelope. In another video, Carlos handed that envelope to Marcus, and Marcus opened it up and pulled out what was in it. It was a stack of cash. Presumably 100s. How cool is that?

For fans of Whitesnake the guitarist who wrote the 1987 album with David Coverdale passed today. RIP John Sykes

Yes, that Blue Murder album is fantastic. I believe this was the record company trying to catch lightning in a bottle again like the Whitesnake 1987 album did. Too few knew about Blue Murder. Criminally underrated album.
