They're not doing it to disparage him though it's the exact opposite, the fact that he's doing this as a rookie is that much more impressive and despite the fact that he's looked like a ten year vet he is in fact a rookie.
Won't be long before that label is shed though so you won't have to worry about it much longer.

I wanted Maye over JD as well, but I was wrong. That being said, Maye did a lot with the worst OL and quite possibly worst receiving corps in the entire NFL as a rookie. So I do think Maye is going to be a stud, too. But I certainly wouldn't take him over JD. This QB class could eventually go down as one of the best ever, depending on how Penix develops and if Caleb can stop taking every sack ever.
 
I was more Maye than Daniels also. But I had 2 specific reasons and I qualified my opinion with a caveat:

1. I was REALLY worried about Daniel's ability to withstand punishment at his size.
2. I never saw evidence he could throw with velocity down the middle of the field into tight windows because LSU just didn't do that.

My caveat was: if Peters sees enough on film/workouts/pro day that the entire field is open to him, then it's all about health. In that case, I would go with Daniels.

Maye put some UNBELIEVABLE tight-window throws in the middle of the field, which are NFL throws. The thing is, we now see Daniels make them routinely. So he COULD make them, we just didn't see them because LSU didn't call them.

This is where I was, too. It wasn't so much "Daniels can't do [x]" but "We rarely ever saw him do [x] at LSU. Was that a result of his limitations or the LSU system?" and it seems it was definitely more the LSU system.

Though I would also add a 3rd concern that I had, which was his tendency at LSU to pull his eyes down and run too quickly vs. keeping his eyes downfield and looking to pass in a scramble drill first. That concern has been addressed as well.

This is exactly reason why none of us know anything about anything when it comes to the draft. Including the so-called experts like Thor freaking Nystrom.

We have about 1/3 of the information needed to make a solid pick: we can watch the film.

But you don’t have the conversations with the player, the coaches, the knowledge of what the player was asked to do, the medicals, private workouts, etc.

Peters had all of those things and could make a more informed decision.

I know nothing about college football anymore. Shit, the championship is going on here and I couldn't care less if I had to.
I know when you guys start chirping, that's when I'll care and start digging.

And what I think still won't matter. Just happy for a competent FO and scouts.

If you like checking out geeky film breakdowns, Kurt Benkert, who did have a cup of coffee in the NFL, has some good stuff. Good details on JD5 reads on plays and Kliff's offense. Here's the video he put out after the Lions game:

 
They need to have an award for Postseason MVP, since league MVP isn't supposed to count for whatever dumb reason.

JD would likely win Postseason MVP and so far he's most definitely the MVP.
 
They probably think of the Super Bowl MVP as being synonomous with playoff MVP though it's probably not always the case. On top of which, we've seen too many games where the real MVP is the team's defense and so they don't know who to reward and default to the QB.

Yeah, both times the Giants beat the Patriots in the SB. Should have been the defense. Eli Manning put up a below average point total in both games but that defense pretty much shut down the unstoppable Brady offense. I don't think that a QB should automatically get SB MVP just because he didn't turn the ball over.
 
Regular Season + Playoffs should = MVP or maybe there should be a separate award. Lets call it true MVP.

Lamar blah blah turnovers.... adds an * to his vote totals.

We are damn close to having the leagues true MVP and we all know it.

Jayden seems to be doing a good job at staying grounded, but I do worry about all the hype and hyperbole around him. Hopefully, it doesn't swell his head in the offseason.

He was the #2 pick in the draft. Think of the hype that comes with that - I’d say he’s handled it pretty well. I think he’s a guy who is driven to perform and win, and doesn’t seem to care much about the rest. I have no worries.
