Next Day Thread: You Must Be Lion

I said it in the podcast earlier in the week - this team really hasn't had a lot of games where all 3 units showed up and excelled in the same game. We would have to have that to beat a team as talented as Detroit at their place with so much on the line. Have to keep in mind, Detroit has a young HC and coaching staff and team desperately looking to cleanse some of their own franchise demons, and all the money was on them doing it against a less talented team.

But they did exactly what I felt they needed to. There were so many plays made on offense, defense, and special teams it is difficult to laundry list them. Time after time after time guys just made the plays that were needed. This team believes it can beat anyone, anywhere, any time - it's not just a lockerroom slogan.

This is real. It's not some freak lucky accident.

I was also 7 the last time this team went to the NFC championship. That was back when the team was exciting to watch and I thought it would just always be like that. Outside of the RGIII year, I cannot remember being this excited about football. My wife and I were at the bar last night watching the game and the energy was just electric with everyone there. It was tough to sleep when we got home. After all the Snyder years, I just didn't think this would be possible and I'm so proud of everyone in that franchise and thankful for what they have given us fans. Jedi 5 is going to ensure this team is in it for years to come. No matter how this journey ends, it's been an amazing ride!
 
I see Sainristill getting a lot of deserved props. What i think is interesting is teams are still going after him even when Lattimore is coming back from injury. When we don't hear a CB's name, that is a good sign. It's even better when going after the others is consistently failing, and they still don't pick on Lattimore. That means he and /or his reputation is doing a swell job.
 
We beat the Lions at their own game, being aggressive. I loved every one of those 4th down decisions. I love how Kliff came out throwing and not running Robinson up the middle which was resulting in too many 2nd and 9's. They mixed in the run later in the game and I hope they take that same approach next week.

I can't get that deep throw to Dyami out of my head. That was as good a throw as you will ever see, at a big moment of course. What we have here is not simply a franchise QB. Dak Prescott is a franchise QB. What we have is a special QB and those come with all sorts of benefits.
 
Several thoughts:

Are we actually possibly more "talented" than we thought? What's the barometer?

I'm surprised Jayden had 9 in incompletions. Dude was locked in.

Of course I'm amazed by the crispness and efficiency of the offense, but I'm most impressed by the defensive performance. That's what won us the game against the top offense imo.

I believe the same game plan applies to each game moving forward. Button up in the redzone when we're on defense/also steal a couple turnovers, and then score nothing but tuddies on offense. Boom.
 
I am old enough to remember the ‘82 NFC Championship game. I was 12, and the Redskins had been wandering in the desert for what seemed like my whole life (in reality it was like five years but I was a kid). Anyway, that was the season, and that was the game. That was the moment the realization set in that we were actually GOOD and things were different now … there is nothing like that.

I am thrilled my son gets to feel that now. As well as all you younguns. 🙂

Enjoy this moment. You all have earned it.

It's funny. As NFL fans, our baseline reaction to going for it on 4th down is fear and angst and dreading the 'what if we fail...' ramifications. But after awhile, you just have to embrace it and relish that we are putting the opponent's defense on notice that we aren't afraid of them. I really think at this point, it's the other team's defense and coaching staff that is feeling fear in those situations. I absolutely love this mindset.
 
I read this morning that we’ve converted a 4th down on five of our seven postseason TD drives.
 
I was not a fan of going for it on 4th instead of the easy FG. I'm older than most and agreed with both George Allan and Gibbs in that you never take points off the board and to get the points when they are there.

After watching us operate the last few weeks, I'm a believer now. The percents for making it on 4th and short are pretty good, and it feels good to be a gangsta.

I love the hurry up, no huddle offense we deploy. Keeps defensive substitutions to a minimum and helps quiet a crowd since there is no let up and the fans can't scream forever.

2012 with RG3 was magical but this year is so much more. It feels sustainable and I can't wait to see what we accomplish in FA and the draft.
