I have no memory of Rivera praising Snyder after the sale. Not saying it didn’t happen but I either missed it or forgot about it and I don’t miss or forget much. As far as him being home free, I believe that both he and everyone else interested considered him to be a dead man walking.

Not to be a dick but those are not traits that I’d ever stake my reputation on, as a general rule.

Gibbs got talked out of retirement and worked for snyder and continually came in for support after Gibbs 2.0.

Dan was a different personality to different people i think.

I happened to watch the first half of the Redskins/Bears divisional playoff game from 1/3/1987 a few months ago. Schroeder was never the most accurate QB, but he broke the Bears blitz that day. Could have won another super bowl and been set at QB through the mid 90s.

I agree with some of this. Yes Williams was done and to go with him as our starter full time did not appear to be a good move at the time.

I also agree that Jay at QB we would have been better in 1988 but this is only because of Mark Rypien’s growing pains. But the 88 team couldn’t run and the D stunk so I think we win a few more games at best.

I think ultimately Rypien was the better QB and I have to believe Gibbs saw this in 1988 and that’s why he chose Williams over Schroeder. He knew his true QB for the 90s was Ryp so when the offer came in for Schroeder from the Raiders we had to take it. If not for the injuries, Lachey is a Hall of Famer.

Oh and just for the record, I loved Jay in 85 and 86 and that win in Chicago you referenced is still to this day my most proud victory as a Redskins fan. It’s the game I’m going to rewatch before our game tomorrow hoping the awesome “David slays Goliath” mojo rubs off for the guys in Detroit tomorrow evening.

I agree with you, but I tend not to hold in high regard people who value how someone treats them specifically over repeated demonstrated poor treatment of others. Maybe not fair, but I’m not one to be friends with people who treat me well but treat others poorly

Gibbs gets a pass imo, it was earlier in Snyder’s tenure, Gibbs was older, and he had that well-meaning naïveté that actual good men can sometimes have where they see the best in all people to the point it can be a blind spot. Snyder had already done some uncouth things by 2004 but most people were still on some level giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not so in 2023.

I can’t say I care enough to spend time searching for the interview, but after the sale was reported, and after even Jason Wright was publicly turning on Snyder, Rivera was still giving the “he gave me this opportunity and always gave me what I asked him for, he did his best” looking the other way type cowardice.

If he didn’t want the perceived stain on his honor of bad mouthing the guy who hired him or whatever, he could have dodged the question or neglected to answer, or said he would only be talking about the football side of the operation. But he straight up said positive things about Snyder and made excuses for a bad person who committed crimes and made many peoples’ lives a living hell.

Maybe he just stuck his foot in his mouth, but I could never look at him the same after that. There are moments that test your morals and sometimes we fail those moments, it doesn’t mean we’re bad people. But it certainly means (to me) that we lose the benefit of the doubt from strangers, to some degree. And that’s really all my little rant was saying—I don’t agree with just stating that he’s obviously a good man after some of what I saw, that’s all. I’m nobody—his family, friends, colleagues, and the world can think whatever of him, and they may be right (and have way more information than me!) but he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt from me personally, is all. His world keeps turning, no biggie. Just shooting the breeze on a message board on a slow Friday, I’m not saying he’s the devil lol

I always have to chuckle whenever I see Rivera on TV and people are taking his input seriously. The dude had no idea what he was doing and didn't even really give a shit either.

Don't forget what he said after halftime when the Bears team, who hadn't won a game in a year, was blowing his team out.

Didn't he say something akin to he diidn't say anything at halftime because the culture is great?

All you do is live in the past. Al least this time you moved out of the 80s. Maybe come into the here and now with the rest of the world.
 
Unfortunately he is not alone. It’s like pining over your first girlfriend. Life goes on. Fond remembrances of the past are comforting and valuable, and absolutely worthy of deep regard and respect. But, to constantly use those memories as comparative measuring sticks to the here and now, especially with the significant differences between the eras, is not fair to the current iteration of the organization.

He was asked what did he say to the players after getting blown out in the first half.

His answer was basically that he didn't say anything and he let the players figure out how to turn it around amongst themselves.
 
ESPN put out a list of the top 100 players.

Daniels is #4 on the list no one else from the team made the list

Not even McLaurin even though Nico Collins is #56 with inferior stats, also Zay Flowers made the list with inferior stats and only 4TDs.

Apparently they don't really watch football games.

4. Jayden Daniels, QB, Washington Commanders

Daniels' rookie season was a revelation, as he immediately elevated Washington's offense to one of the NFL's most efficient. The Commanders ranked fourth in offensive EPA per play and Daniels ranked fourth in QBR (70.5). His scrambles were particularly special. He scrambled at the highest rate among qualifiers (12%), generating the most scramble EPA (41) and ranking fourth in EPA on designed carries (18).

Daniels ran hot on third and fourth down especially, with a combined 93.5 QBR. That statistic is something to keep an eye on going forward since those types of high-leverage plays can affect QBR in a disproportionate way. Regardless, Daniels' clutch play led to points and a postseason berth.

But I watched and recorded the replay of the game in the middle of the night (sleep was out of the question). Left the computer on all night, on BGO. 🙄 Probably won't be functional until tmrw. I'm hungry but can't think about food, I see a can of soup in my future.
