CBS Sports recently posted this list, ranking HC candidates for the upcoming hiring cycle. There are several teams with HCs carrying an interim title, and a potential for more pink slips on Black Monday. What are your thoughts on who's likely to get the ax after the last week of the regular season? What an absolute shocker that RR didn't make the CBS list!

Ben Johnson is a high probably I'd wager to be a HC in 2025, along with Vrabel, the rest I'd be surprised. With loudmouth Ryan and rumors now Gruden are getting interest I think we'll see more retreads than first time HC's.

In general for NFL coaching/hiring, who would ever bet against retreads?? You'd have to be crazy to do so.

That said, I think recent trends are starting to turn to new blood. There is at least some momentum for it. I am not sure as much about the coordinator position, it still feels like that is mired in some recycling, but on the HC front, I feel like Slowik is a possibility as well, and just in general there has been more of a movement to fresh blood honestly driven in part by the Shan coaching tree started with the Redskins 2012-era staff I think.

I think the Jets being the Jets, yes they will likely do something stupid. RR is a possibility to go to the Jets. Beyond that, I do wonder what retreads will be hot commodities. It is certainly possible that Kliff is hot, and I guess he qualifies as a retread.
 
Ben Johnson, Vrabel and Kliff will be the hot commodities right off the bat. I can see teams doing wide sweeps of interviews to get a better feel for all of the prospects, especially the young offensive coordinators. There's a good chance we lose Kliff. It's a shame if that occurs. Would like to keep consistencies next year for Daniels.
 
I still like to think that Kliff has figured out his happy place is as a coordinator. Let him build something a little longer before he tries the head coaching thing again.

One thing we may have going for us is that he dealt with a lousy owner in Arizona so I wonder if that knocks a few places off his list. On the surface, the Bears do seem attractive, but there's got to be something wrong with that team to have as much as they do and for it all to go so far south.

Bears ownership is widely considered poor. Maybe not Dan Snyder or Woody Johnson, but they’re not good.

A bunch of bad teams changed coaches last year. I suppose the Raiders or Patriots could change coaches but both hired coaches last year.

I can’t remember what Indy has done recently.

Giants? Will they, in the end, fire Daboll? I doubt it. And if they do, I think he’ll become a top candidate.

Dallas, will they fire McCarthy? I doubt it.

I doubt the top candidates will really want. Chicago, New Orleans or NYJ.

Chicago is interesting because of the QB. But it hasn’t been a good organization up there in a while.

Who am I missing?
 
Jets are interviewing GM and HC candidates simultaneously. Already off to a bad start. Cue the shambles, again.

Baalke has to got to be out in Jacksonville, and hopefully that'll be his last front office position of any real consequence. Khan passed on Rick Smith once, I wonder who might be a good it there. Would Ben Johnson want to work with Trevor L?

Chicago could've had Jayden, DQ and Kliff. Instead, still wandering in the wilderness in search of leadership. Hope they get it right this time, or Poles is toast.
 
Pats fired Mayo. The obvious lead candidate would be Vrabel. But I’m not sure, they might be going for somebody else.
 
Jerod Mayo doesn’t even make it to Monday.

I would not be surprised if they were hard after Ben Johnson. I feel like him going to Chicago is more media driven than anything else. If he does want to go there, I'd highly question is decision making--wanting to go to a demonstrably bad ownership group, while calling Harris' team "basketball guys."
 
CBS is reporting that teams are willing to trade for McConnell; wonder if that's all a ploy by his agent to get more cabbage leaves from the Vikes when they do his next contract, or if maybe he's interested in going back to Foxboro

That’s actually a really good thought.

I don’t think Ben Johnson is going to Chicago. They might want him, but I don’t think he’ll want to go into the same division as Detroit if he can help it.

With New England, he’d get to work with Maye, who might just be a more athletic Goff.

I’m waiting to hear about the NFC East tesms, Dallas and Giants. I doubt either make a change but we need to hear from their ownership confirmation of that.

The Jets are a dumpster fire.

New Orleans is interesting in that they aren’t awful. But they are saddled with Carr’s contract. He has a $50m cap number next year. And a $50m dead cap number. So cutting him would be hard. So
Somebody had to come in who wants to work with Carr.

That lawsuit discovery is going to be hilarious if that is the case. That was one of the biggest things to come out of the Miami/Brian Flores divorce. The Dolphins wanted him to lose games and he said no.

They could have Vrabel lined up not so down low. He wasn’t coaching last year, they could talk to him at any time.

Ben Johnson, that would be tampering and I doubt they would do that because if they get caught, it could nuke the franchise for a while.

So we should be 2 to 3 years ahead of them soon when they start their complete teardown.

Jags firing Doug P but for some unfathomable reason keeping Baalke on as GM. Guy must have some real dirt on Khan.
