I remember the first time I took a vacation with friends that I was hyper-conscious of my money. My friends would see something awesome and go do it. I'd measure out whether I thought it was awesome enough and what might pop up down the road. Anyway, at the end of the vacation, I had a wad of cash and my friends had a wad of memories. Today, that memory is long spent, but the memories are still good.

Sometimes, playing it safe is fine. Most of the time, it's smart. There are times though when spending a little bit of that emotional cash is the best course. After all, in almost fifty years of fandom, I've only gotten to experience a rookie phenom twice. Maybe these good times are short-lived, but if they are... isn't that even more reason to enjoy them as much as possible? After all, when the bad times come it's not like we can cash in the happiness we failed to cash in today.

Ok, I think I misunderstood. You were probably responding to another post. Mine was about the idea of JD being MVP and that it's a bit nutty at this point, considering his competition, and that we should probably be content for now with how great he is already as a rookie.

Enjoy our season and how we are doing. It wasn't long ago we felt the same for another rookie QB, and look how that ended.

I get the trepidation.
through 15 games of their rookie seasons their numbers are really similar.
Biggest differences are jaydens completion percentage is considerably better and far less fumbles.
I still think there's something there with jayden that was missing with rg3 but i very much understand the skepticism.

I'm definitely going to be waiting with baited breath for next year to see if he has the sophomore slump like cj stroud or takes off into the stratosphere like mahomes or burrow.

We have no control over it though so how we react to what he's doing now is a choice and I'm trying to enjoy it and hope for the best.

I understand the hesitancy. We were burned buying into RGIII. We were burned by Chase Young. We can point at CJ Stroud.

RGIII didn’t flame out. He got hurt. And Jayden is a better passer AND runner than RGIII ever was. This ain’t some outlier year like Sam Darnold’s. This is what we’ve seen from Daniels since last year. He just looks like the same guy we scouted and drafted.

And with regards to CJ Stroud, he doesn’t have Daniels’ running ability. And we haven’t heard anything to suggest he has the same obsessive work ethic.

I’d be stunned if we didn’t win 11 games this year and we could well win 12. With one playmaker on offense, who is very good, but isn’t in the same class as a Ja’Marr Chase or Justin Jefferson. Our WR2 is hurt, and was WR 6 on Houston and got cut. Our OL is decent, but nothing special. I’d probably describe them as, “average”. And yet, we could go 12-5 with the offense carrying the team. And Daniels looks just as good against the Eagles as he did against Alabama.

Maybe he doesn’t grow into some high volume passing machine. But I just don’t see a fall off as we improve the roster around him, and he’s good enough to win a Super Bowl right now. Today.

Jayden is having a historically good season for a rookie. He has carried us. He has a really rare work ethic to go with his really rare physical traits.

I don’t think he’s guaranteed to produce on the level of Allen, Burrows, or Lamar, but even if he doesn’t, he’s a top 8 QB right now. And I do think he has a chance to get to the level of those 3 guys. He looked every bit as good a passer as Joe Burrow when he outplayed him carrying us to a win against Cincinnati.

Which is all to say, life is short. Jayden looks as promising as any QB I can remember, ever. He clearly has, “it”. I’m going to enjoy getting carried away. I don’t think we all need to stay measured. We can enjoy this, and if some freak thing happens, at least we got to enjoy it.

The other thing I will say is, Adam Peters has been pretty amazing so far. I don’t see him failing to provide weapons or a sufficiently good OL in the future. We aren’t going to hang Jayden out to dry with bad management decisions.

Yes this.
We no longer have the most rotten apple in pro sports at the top of the pile always spoiling the whole bunch.
With snyder gone and our front office now as good as it gets jayden will have all the support he needs to flourish unlike some of the talented players we've ruined over the last 25 years.

I agree with you but this is the jayden I want to see.

The jayden that wasn't throwing picks was also the jayden that was being protected more frequently with screen passes and a heavy run game but when we played the better competition it was predictable and easy to defeat.

For us to have a chance to beat the eagles, ravens, Vikings of the world we need to unleash the beast, the jayden that has 5 touchdowns and 85 yards rushing.
That jayden is unfortunately also going to throw a few more picks that's inevitable but also necessary to make him a dragon slayer and not a game manager.

Yeah as I have posted the coaches have for somre reason gotten more conservative as the season has gone on. Jayden was certainly letting it rip earlier in the season and I'd like to see more intermediate passes again, enough with the 9 bubble screens a game already.. But when he was throwing those passes in October he rarely overshot his receiver for picks as he has done a lot more often recently.

It hasn’t imo. I don’t really know how to get through to the people who are still fearfully making superficial comparisons to RG3. Being a fan then was damaging, I’ll admit.

But Daniels is better than RG3 ever was, and is producing like it. We have a real defensive coaching staff. We have extra draft picks instead of missing them from trading up for the QB, we have top-5 cap space in the NFL instead of having cap space stolen. We have a talented GM coveted around the league instead of whatever the fuck Shanahan/Allen were doing. And maybe most importantly, we don’t have Dan Snyder—we have a new, good owner.

I know you know all of this in a rational sense. But sometimes seeing it laid out helps. It’s time to heal, brother. Jayden could break his leg tomorrow and it would still be time to heal. Things are not the same.

(btw this doesn’t mean we can’t be logical and admit fears, concerns, etc. It’s not about being a blind homer and pretending things are even better than they are. It’s just about being able to give ourselves the gift of being present and appreciating where we actually are—instead of living in fear of where we aren’t…we deserve that after all these years of suffering)

While RGKnee was a workout warrior, he was reportedly lazy and inattentive as hell when it came to studying. He was also immature and mildly narcissistic, which alienated him from his teammates (go back and look at Santana's comments about him after he was gone).
JD is the first guy at the facility every morning, and reportedly studies constantly - read about all the VR reps sped up.
Shamahan said after he got fired that it would take ol' Bob at least 3 years to become a pocket passer. Daniels already is. JD seems to already be able to read defenses. Griffin NEVER learned. That rookie year people were so afraid of him running to the perimeter that RPOs always seemed to leave receivers WIDE OPEN. Once his speed went from Olympic to just good, nobody played him scared anymore, and the formula was simple: Double cover his first read and send in an extra blitzer. Sacks and more sacks until the next injury.

Being ecstatic about JD and being realistic about things like winning MVP aren't mutually exclusive.

After last nights performance the MVP talk will be more prevalent. He once again threw the whole team on his back and carried them to victory.

I think it's thoughts like this that inspired my Norvsferatu thread this morning. It occurs to me that we suffer from more than mere norvousness, but from an undead creature who has taken residence in too many of our hearts.

The D had been doing better. I think to really fix it will take at least an offseason.
