Official Game Thread - Week 16 - Eagles @ Commanders

Well the first thing is we can’t beat ourselves. Can’t have the dead ball penalties on offense or the soft defensive holding or PI calls on D.

Can’t miss big plays on deep balls when they are there.

Eagles are a more talented team. We have to play close to our maximum and hope they are the team that make mistakes.

While we have struggled generally more against the rush than the pass, rarely have we let marquee RBs run all over us. We are coming off a game where we held Alvin Kamara to 50 some yds. I don’t think it’s impossible for them to hold Barkley’s #’s down in a similar fashion.

They just need to be efficient and control the clock, limit the eagles possessions, get a couple turnovers.

The eagles are due for a loss. May as well be this weekend.

totally agree, I’ve been saying this too… I can’t see them entering the playoffs on a 13 game winning streak….this weekend is a great opportunity to end their 10 game streak … and we are due against them as well imho.

I personally believe if we can just manage to score more points then them then we win and be in the drivers seat for the Paloffs. Are the Paloffs now?

I think anyone going out on a limb and predicting an upset on Sunday (as KDawg and I have) - it has to be predicated on us forcing some turnovers, maybe multiple turnovers. I predict the best performance of the season by our D and 4 turnovers.

The Eagles are INVADING OUR HOUSE on Sunday. They, and their scumbag fans, are the enemy on Sunday. They must not be allowed to piss in our HOUSE and clinch the NFC East.

Do any of you fear that we may win the battle against them on Sunday, but lose the war in Philly in January? That that mother fucking Sirianni will have the last laugh?

Looking forward to a good game on Sunday. I have a lot of respect for what Daniels is doing. These division games are always a grind.

I predict a low scoring game through the first three quarters, then Hurts and Barkley wear down the D with the run game, control the clock, and get the W.

21-13 win for the Eagles.

The big question really is how much of a ripple effect can Lattimore have across the whole defense. If he really can be an eraser, then the D is suddenly freed up to focus on the run or on containment. Before Lattimore, this D had to basically pick a poison, they had to pick a side. If they opted to play pass defense they'd get gashed by the run. If they decided to play run defense, they'd get killed in the passing game. Unfortunately, the Eagles have a strong running attack and really good receivers. With that, the Eagles should win, but I like to think Washington has a puncher's chance. Here's hoping we see their best shot.

There’s always a chance. Eagles are just one dumb Sirianni decision away from taking a loss. That said, he’s firmed things up during this win streak. Dare I say, he’s learned from past mistakes?

Wonder why this game wasn't moved to 4:25, given the implications for both teams with a victory.

Although it is a fairly high profile game with two teams having winning records it's not super important to either team.

The eagles pretty much have the division wrapped up already, barring a complete and total collapse and are playing for seeding which is not anywhere near as exciting as a playoff spot and we're battling it out for a wild card with the seahawks, rams and falcons being our primary competition which is why next week's game against the falcons was flexed to Sunday night.

Couple that with the fact that of the seven 1 o'clock games we're literally the only game that doesn't involve a 4 win or less team.

There is a huge slate Of suck scheduled for this Sunday at 1 and the nfl needed something at least mildly interesting in that time slot.

And we get Big Jon back. ;)
When I heard the reports that he was trying to comeback this year I dismissed them as false optimism but it looks like I was dead wrong.
I'd be very surprised if he played this week but I was also very surprised he's coming back at all so here's to hoping he comes back and plays strong.

Do you think if he comes back we can stop the run with just the defensive line and not over committing?

Guess it depends on how well he plays.

He wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire before he got hurt leading most of us to believe he was past his prime and it's optimistic to think 3 months off is going to improve his play but the defense as a whole is playing way better than it was when he got hurt which could very easily elevate his game.

Couple that with having lattimore in the secondary and we could have a pretty stout defense down the stretch if it stays healthy.

If we do make the playoffs I'm hoping we don't lay an egg like quinns defense did last year against the packers.

Quinn can put together a solid unit but they do have a history of unwinding in big moments.

Im not particularly upset in that scenario....this franchise would still be so far along and ahead of schedule I think I would be fine. Would also mean we had already won one playoff game since Philly would be coming off a 1st round bye.
Not saying it wont hurt in the moment but grand scheme of things...yeah id be ok.

If we were to win at the Linc though....the blood bath in Philly from fans and media would be unprecedented! lol

The rational part of me doesn't expect that we can do much in the playoffs. We lack the weapons on offense. We lack the depth all over the team. We've got a weak secondary and are susceptible to the run.

My inner ten-year-old cries out "LOMBARDI TIME!"

When this happens, I tell him a bedside story and he settles down, but he smiles in his sleep. I miss being the ten-year-old.

Not for this week, but…

Helped me win my squeaker of a fantasy match last week, my opponent had him and he must have been injured because he missed a few kicks.
