Austin Ekeler to IR: Who picks up the slack?

Yeah, McNichols isn't the guy. Luckily, we have two weeks to figure out if we have a guy on the roster.
 
Crowder is on IR with a calf injury he sustained against the Cardinals. To my knowledge they have not opened his window to return? Last update i see was before the game vs Philly a couple weeks ago.

With Ekeler on IR, who picks up the slack?

I think we saw the doggs today do that just fine.... they feasted today!
 
Not going to read too much into Rodriguez’s performance considering the Titans D was likely pretty gassed/demoralized by the time he started getting carries, but… man does he run hard and violently. He also does a great job pressing the hole and cutting back at the last second behind blockers, which lead to him not getting touched until a few/several yards past the LOS. Or that was my impression anyway. I’ve been a fan since preseason last year and I hope we use him going forward.
 
I'm leaning towards thinking he ought to retire. If he's suffering memory loss that sounds significant. Much as we love it, football is just a game even when it's a job.

It's the right thing for Ekeler to do. You expressed the words perfectly, BG on what he should hopefully do.
 
Thoughts on experimenting with Luke McCaffery as RB. He can catch the ball out of the backfield and has decent speed. His brother is a RB, so why not try him out during the off week and after. We do need to bring in a 3rd down scatback type RB that has decent hands.

I don’t think as a RB but I’m kindof surprised we haven’t used him more on jet sweeps, and then let him throw one or two. He is a former QB.

The problem with lining him up in the backfield is if he isn’t getting the ball, he will have a blitz pickup responsibility and I’m not sure that’s going to work out well for him

Definitely sweeps/end arounds w/the option to pass. It would interesting to possibly tinker with him at RB. Maybe he doesn't have enough burst of the LOS.

I would worry if he had to pick up a blitzing LB he would get blasted all the way to Iceland.

He could probably take a handoff or two. But he’s probably not as good as a RB as any of the RBs on the roster.

I’d let him stick as a WR and then let him gadget from time to time.

Your right. We could definitely use him in gadget plays and hopefully he excels in the future as a slot WR. McNichols is the best scatback we have for 3rd downs and we need to do better with Ekeler on IR. Hopefully they find their huckleberry. LOL

I mean, they squeaked out 200+ rush yards with their 3 RBs.

The key is the OL blocking. If it keeps up, the rush yards will come.

Both lines on D and O play a huge impact. We need to build both up more. As posted in another thread, AP has more work to do and so far his work has been great. We know he can't fill all the holes at once but those he has filled has us with good leadership in DQ and the coaching staff at 8-5 when most thought, including myself, we'd be 9-8 at best before the season started.
 
I agree that Ekeler would be smart to hang it up given those reports.

Luke M is still learning how to play the WR position. I think staying the course and developing him for 2-3 years down the road as a #2 or slot WR is the plan and should be.
 
I am never comfortable giving other men life advice but…

Austin has had a very successful career as a football player and is equally successful off the field as an entrepreneur with platforms, foundations, and a real estate portfolio. He was married this past March and I am going to assume that he also wants to be a father at some point.

He doesn’t need the money and I would hope that he realizes that there is so much life still to come and seriously considers protecting his future.
