Strong point. Last two times the Wizards picked first they got Kwame Brown and John Wall. Not exactly cornerstone players.
 
Yep, not only was the timing bad but then Leonsis compounded the error by paying Wall and Beal as if they were Kobe and LeBron on super max deals.

Ted tried to do with Wall and Beal what he did with Ovechkin and Backstrom in signing these top picks to long term deals, the problem was that neither Wall nor Beal are true franchise players and worthy of that level of commitment.

Ted finally fired the 'have to be connected to the Bullets/Wizards' approach to selecting a GM and promised to keep his hands off this rebuild now with Winger in town.

That's a step in the right direction.

One piece of luck - the Detroit Pistons were the worst team in the NBA this year and yet they fell all the way down to pick #5.

That's what used to happen to the Bullets/Wizards seemingly every year in the lottery.

So the Giants are now part of 'Hard Knocks Offseason'



Recently it came out that Hard Knocks was going to be about a division, and no longer about a single team...

Does that mean that there will be 4 installments of Hard knocks? Something like:

Offseason
Training Camp
In Season
Post season.....?

That could mean that each team in the division has their own installment? Could Washington have Training Camp, or some variation?
 
This is good news. Part of drafting players is who picks them, but it’s also who is identifying them. There may be some good scouts on staff, but the overall results speak for themselves. I’m all for turning over the scouting department.
 
I think part of the issue was resources.

I remember reading a couple of years ago that Washington had one of the smallest scouting staffs in the NFL.

Another example where Snyder was cheap around the edges.
 
And successful ones too. The Lions turnaround has been amazing. The Ravens are always one of the best in terms of picking talent.
 
Ravens are always near the top in terms of size of scouting staff, coaching staff, etc.
 
It's been a LONG time since Washington "won" the offseason.

Killer front office additions :)
Really prolific, but mostly low key, rebuild of the roster through free agency :)

What I think is most promising about this winning of the offseason strategy is that where we are trying to win is at the foundation. We're not trying to win by signing marquee free agents at record breaking numbers. We're winning by trying to build the best FO in the league. We're winning by assembling a top of the line coaching roster. We're winning by not reaching for need and letting the players fall to us.
 
Well I’ve been wrong about virtually everything we have done this offseason so I will try to keep the streak going.

We will not be signing David Bakhtiari because we are set at left tackle. Nothing to see here.

Pretty good article in today's Wash Post about where people want the new stadium. In short, according to their poll of 1,600 respondents across the DMV a significant majority prefer DC (Something like 60% DC vs. 17% MD vs. 15% VA.

Thinking about it, I just don't know if it's a good idea to put a stadium back in DC. For me, it comes down to traffic. Traffic on an ordinary day in DC is terrible. Can you imagine adding 60K worth of congestion? Now, I do like the Metro accessibility to alleviate some of that, but getting to and getting out of the stadium would drive us all crazy. Nostalgia argues for DC. I went to a few games in the glory years as a youth and both were amazing, but there are two things to consider about even that. First, they were the glory years and when things are glorious the little things don't matter. Second, every time I went to DC, I rode the subway so I while I have a dim memory of overcrowded escalators and having to wait for a second or third train before I could hop on, it wasn't that bad. I mean it couldn't be that bad... when everyone was celebrating and it was glorious.

Yeah, I feel like there are more fans on the VA side of the river now. Lots of fans on the Maryland side seem to have thrown in the towel and dawned a purple jersey.
 
The quote I remember from the Virginia side was someone who preferred Maryland landing the team because they didn't want the tax burden that comes with a new stadium.
 
I would also be curious what the question was. Did they give specific locations or generic state/district only. Some of these polls are designed to get the answer they want. I believe the Post probably wanted it to be DC, so maybe the question was stated in a way that made VA a less attractive option. Who knows really, but I do agree that a majority of people in MD pull for the Ravens over the Redskins.
 
My guess is every fan in DC and Maryland would not pick VA and then you have those in VA that do not want to have any sports so they don't "give" money to billionaires. VA has always shot down every single stadium proposal ever put up.
