Yeah, it’s complicated. Another big factor is who the guy is, not just what his physical talents are. We already suspect with a guy like Thomas, with his penchant for running his mouth to the press behind his coaches back, that might’ve been enough for them to say ‘this is not what we need’. With departing guys, there could be questions around work ethic, desire, attitude, unselfishness, etc.. that also come into play. They are definitely looking for ‘traits’ and not everyone, talented or not, is going to pass the smell test.

I think part of the reason we have let so many of our FA's walk is about wanting to completely flip the script here. New culture, new identity, new everything.

We could make the case for re-signing/retaining any number of guys on potential merit ... Samuels, Curl, Fuller, Howell ... but it's pretty clear to me at this point we are aggressively sweeping the decks clean.

We wanted culture change? We're getting it.
 
I wish all of the former players well in their future endeavors.

I wish all of the current players more than well in their current endeavors.

I dont know, and honestly I don't think it's the best practice.

If a dude can play football and is a good fit, I would hope that Peters and Co are looking at him that way. I don't want them tainted by the idea that Rivera and co are the ones that brought them in. I honestly dont care where they came from, who drafted or scouted them, or anything else. Does THAT dude give us a better shot at winning? There are about 100 layers to that onion that go way beyond physical talent, but at the end of the day, if the answer is yes, then I hope they're analyzing it in that way.

Sweep the deck clean? Sure, but I hope they're watching for the spare change, and valuables that are in the pile before they dump it in the trash.
 
I read on Twitter that Kurl was offered 10M/year by Peters, but his side wanted 15M. If true, misjudgment and ego cost him 2.5M/year at least.
 
IMO his nose was put out of joint when we refused to franchise him and then work out a long term deal based on the fact we thought he was one of the top 5-6 safeties in the league.

The truth is he isn't quite at that level and Peters if anything has shown that he is not going to overpay ANYBODY, at least at this point.

If down the road we have a franchise quarterback or left tackle that is an all pro and wants to set the market on salary he may be forced to make that move.

But, again there is no one coming off a 4-13 football team that is indispensable.

Absolutely. As I said, it think it's part of their calculus. The other part(s) are their own assessments of each player's skill, potential, age, cost, etc., and how each would fit into the schemes they are planning to run.
 
His agent must have had a furrowed brow when he started to see all of these veteran safeties get released days before the start of the league year.

It seemed clear then that there weren't going to be any market setting deals. If anything salaries for this position were going to deflate.
 
Aaron Donald is retiring at 32. Somewhat of a surprise given that LA is a team that looks to be on the rise in 2024.

I am amazed at how well the Eagles handle the cap.
 
Andre Dillard OT released by Titans. Former #1 pick of Eagles in 2019. Wow, has he fell! In 2023 he tied for the worst record in the NFL in giving up 12 sacks :cry:
