I’m glad there are adults in the room now. Oy.

Watch it be Glenn or Weaver who almost no one is talking about.

So something I’ve been thinking about with this coaching search, I was waiting to see who was hired, but with only info coming out about who is not hired, I figured I’d share anyway. I think we may need to come to grips that this isn’t the attractive job we think it is. Yes, we are excited for a new owner and front office. We can see that this could be really good long term. But a new coach, especially a young, first time coach, knows he needs to win and win now. Look at all the coaches that were hot shot coordinators who were fired within a few years. Brandon Staley and Arthur Smith are the latest examples. A guy like Johnson may realize that this is a rebuild and it’s going to take some time to build a winner, and he may not want to do that. Other coaches may be in the same boat. Whoever is hired now may be the guy who goes through all the losing and rebuilding to see the next guy come in and put the finishing touches on to be a winner. I think that does play a factor in this, especially for a young, first time coach. That may be why the hot names everyone has expected haven’t already been hired.

I saw it said that Washington was a great job for a GM with a long leash, not so great for a HC. I think there is a lot of validity to that.

Yeah, but Glenn doesn't impress me that much based on the body of work and Weaver works for MacDonald, so how is that a win for us?

Well, there's no way you can tell me that the Titans or Falcons were better jobs.

I think it was clear Harbaugh wanted to be on the West Coast and with Herbert the LA job was fit for him.

Discounting the Raiders and Patriots who went with internal candidates that left 6 jobs to be filled from the outside.

What I think Tennessee did that was smart was going with a candidate in Canale that was a very competent assistant and was GOING TO TAKE THE JOB!

I think being realistic is important.

If a guy is asking for megabucks to become a rookie head coach or wants to interview with 8 teams multiple times, MOVE ON.

There are 32 teams in the NFL with full coaching staffs.

There has to be at least 2 or 3 assistants that right now are going to be VERY GOOD head coaches in the NFL in the future.

Instead of following the one or two headliners how about finding one of them? ;)

For what it's worth ... I'm not ready to assume we are shitting the bed here. We were nothing if not giddy about how Harris/Peters have handled everything so far, right up until the guy we had all convinced ourselves was one of only two legit choices decided he wasn't ready to be a head coach. We have no idea what they've been doing about it since. Of even they agreed with the media and fan narrative that Johnson and Macdonald were the only two legit choices.

It may turn out that in addition to Johnson deciding to stay home with Daddy, Macdonald decides Seattle is a better fit for him. Or hell, maybe decides to stay in Baltimore--it's a thing apparently these days.

Gonna see how it plays out, and hopefully we'll get some insight into what our guys have been thinking all thru this process. And yeah, we may end up with Quinn, even if he wasn't the teams first choice. I'm not going to go nuts if that's the case given how this has all played out so far. For one, because it may turn out it was beyond anyone's control how it played out. And for two, because as far as I can tell it's pretty much only fans who think he's a guaranteed big fat failure. I knew little about the guy before all this beyond the public thumbnail sketch, but the more I hear/read about him from football people the more it seems like he's very highly thought of as a Leader.

Just saying--I'm as anxious as anybody to get this thing rolling, but I'm having a hard time working up the bile yet based on what precious little we actually know.

We have all heard (and said) that Washington is in a great position due to cap space and draft capital. Draft capital, yes, but the team is also pretty devoid of talent and has relatively few players under contract.

That cap space is going to disappear very fast. Compare it to the Bengals, Lions, and Texans. Doesn’t sound so good considering. A much better cap space position than Seattle but a much worse roster.

If it were me, and I was making a business decision, Seattle would be a no-brainer.

Paulsen is reporting that Macdonald is on the way back to Seattle for another F2F interview - the second one this week.

Call me crazy (wouldn’t be the first time) but I think Atlanta is a better HC opportunity than Washington. All they need is a QB.

For decades we’ve heard ‘the fans think they know, but they don’t know’. But in most instances fan concerns proved to have far more validity than anyone ever could’ve imagined.

As far as the new regime goes, who knows? I’m not prepared to say they have dicked this up - yet. Even if they hire my least favorite choices, that doesn’t constitute screwing up. As mentioned, some things are beyond anyone’s control. It’s a fluid environment and there are a lot of humans and factors involved.

On the other hand, just because Harris isn’t Dan Snyder and Adam Peters has a great rep, doesn’t mean they won’t fuck it up. I hear a lot of ‘they should get the benefit of the doubt’. Maybe. On the other hand their moves are going to be heavily scrutinized and viewed with some skepticism until they can demonstrate they know what they are doing.

Seems to me that’s how a fanbase coming off 25 years of disappointment should view things.

To win now, I definitely agree. They were close last year, but had some bad coaching decisions combined with bad QB play that did them in. Plus that division is not good, so it doesn’t take much to get them over the hump. Is that sustainable long term, I don’t know. And the hole at QB will have to be solved, or they will hover around .500.

Absolutely we may end up finding out they fucked it up. Just saying I'm not inclined to go there at this point.

All that is guaranteed at this point is Dan Snyder no longer owns our team, and that for the first time in 25 years we have an undisputed, qualified General Manager steering the ship.

That ain't nothin'.

I agree with Om ... and Boone. :)

There is no way to know what's going on right now. We can only guess. I do know that jumping for the shiniest object on the shelf has not exactly worked out for this team over the years. Just because we have people in mind doesn't mean the team agrees. I'm willing to let things play out before deciding the world is ending. That said, I have no faith in this new front office until they've earned it.

I guess what I'm saying, if I'm saying anything, is I don't know what the hell is going on, and I'm ok with that.

One other thing that is interesting that we all witnessed a lot in the past; this is the first major foray for this group (Owner/GM). So, this sets a bit of a blueprint for the future negotiations; if you overpay, you may be looked at (again) as the cash-cow, retirement place. Not the serious contender, if the structure and organization doesn't follow through properly. It is going to be an interesting thing to watch; how does the Commanders rep get set at this stage and how does it mature. Take Tepper for example; currently his rep is wrapped around throwing drinks at people. I can't picture Harris doing that, but you know, reps are just set in so many ways. It should be interesting to see how the Commanders rep matures from here. That is one reason of many why I do like the patient approach, as long as it is defensible. Right now, I definitely see it that way, even if they miss out on potentially good candidates.

I don't want to be a Negative Nancy but honestly...we don't know that we have "an undisputed, qualified General Manager."

We believe it (for the record, I BELIEVE it). The rest of the league believes it.

However, if there is one thing I have come to understand in this league, no one is the "undisputed, qualified" anything until they prove it. Peters has been on the job for what? 3 weeks?

I'm excited to have him here and I believe he will do great things, but until he proves it...

Just sayin'.

That's fair, but I'll quibble.

Peters is an undisputed and qualified General Manager. I think given his resume he earns that, but like a drafted rookie or a first year head coach, he's all potential so far. He has the pedigree to be a legitimate GM, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good one. Shanahan and Rivera, for example, were undisputed and qualified head coaches, but when they got here they weren't good head coaches. So while no one could argue their credentials they still failed.

Peters has great credentials as a second banana. He has to prove he's best of the bunch.

Seattle has other issues. The ownership is in question as Paul Allen's sister is expected to follow his wishes in his will to sell the franchise.

As such Seattle is NOT spending megabucks in free agency, much as Dan Snyder was not doing that the past couple of years.

And if you look at how Pete Carroll was shown the door there are grumblings within the organization.

Cue the twitter meltdown - MacDonald to Seattle.
