Yeah, I think that was the closest we got to how he really feels.

Now, I do think we have better talent then we put on the field in 2023, but I also think if we looked at the fifty plus players on the roster and asked who's a talent we can't lose. I think we'd be hard pressed to name ten players that should be fixtures.

So, I have for sure keepers off the top of my head on this roster and I probably could be talked out of having Payne or Allen on that list pretty easily.

I’m wondering how much he’s looked at the roster he has to work with and maybe feels like we underperformed due to coaching this year.
That’s why the term ‘leadership’ kept popping up. And maybe why he doesn’t necessarily view this as a complete rebuild.

Oh, I believe there are some salvageable pieces on this roster but also, it would be foolish to think that in this salary cap era, you can cut 90% of the roster.
It'll be an eventual turnover. Who knows? There may be a couple of current players we're not thinking of that may stick around longer than what we think.

This is looking like the most professional reboot to a franchise that we could have ever dreamed of.

We don't have that many expensive players on the roster. Other than resigning Payne, Rivera really didn't spend much money on free agents or long-term extensions for current roster players.

Curl and Cosmi are younger players with decisions to be made on them.

When I look at the offensive line I see players outside of Cosmi that are either over 30 or have graded out as replacement level performers.

Leno was fine that first year but he is now going into his age 33 season after having missed time with injuries. It's definitely time for a move here at LT.

I don't see this team overall having the kind of talent where you just plug in a draft pick quarterback and the club goes from 4-13 to 10-7 and a playoff berth.

The Houston Texans did it the right way. They acquired the high picks after finishing last and used them to great effect in 2023 with Stroud and Willie Anderson Jr.

But they also drafted Nico Collins in Round 3 the year before and had traded years earlier for a legitimate LT in Laremy Tunsil.

While not spending TOO much money in free agency, the Texans were able to find a veteran right guard in Shaq Mason and a pass rushing DL in Derrick Barnett from the Eagles.

Overall, these guys didn't miss much.

In addition to what Om said regarding leadership, the three other biggest takeaways for me from Peters' press conference were:

a) Emphasized a long term view towards roster building. We saw with Snyder time and time again that attempting to take short cuts to success were always a recipe for disaster.

b) Peters commented on two occasions about how we will see a return to tough, physical football; two pillars that the proud history of this franchise was built upon. Yes, please. That to me speaks to finding an identity and that has been largely missing here.

c) Relationships. Joe Gibbs always stressed the importance of winning with good people, and Peters echoed this when saying they are ultimately looking for not only a high football IQ guy at head coach, but simultaneously, a good human being. This to me gives you the opportunity to cultivate a culture of success.

Overall, a promising way to start and some early indicators that we will be able to restore some pride.

Having said that, Harris and Co. have a lot of things to address. The name is one of the things they can work on themselves while someone else addresses the on-field issues. However, Harris and Co. have to address hiring the people to address the on-field issues first.

At the moment, Harris and Co. have prioritized hiring the football people who will be tasked with making this team competitive on the field. I'm good with this priority.

Harris said "status quo" for the first season and it appears he meant for the whole organization, not just football operations. My guess is that the people who will work on the name change stuff (if it is going to happen) aren't even on board yet as there has been very little reported turnover on the business side either.

What I don't want is to see is Harris prioritizing the name over the on-field product and losing yet another year.

Patience is the key.
