Washington Hires Adam Peters as GM!

Peters is huge!

Yeah, but our top 4 draft picks in 2023 barely contributed to the team's effort during the season. That was a big reason this team fell flat on its face.

If Emmanuel Forbes came in and started from Day 1 like Denzel Ward did and we had Martin as a starting slot, Romberg/and or Daniels playing on the OL perhaps this team would have looked a lot better.

Hopefully those days of going 0-4 in the draft are over.
 
This is a very good hire. And now we wait for the rest of it to shake out.

I think there's a chance Hurney is out pretty quickly and Mayhew stays through the draft. Then look for a lot of new faces in the scouting department after the draft. Their contracts run through the draft, so you can't poach them yet.

It's going to take a little time to get new people in place, but this was a huge step in the right direction.

The key: they hired a guy with options who clearly wanted to come here. That hasn't happened since ... I don't know when. From a front office perspective, Beathard I would imagine.
 
Woot! The excitement certainly started with the sale and Harris and company coming on board. The timing made it so you couldn't fully get excited because you knew he hadn't put this stamp on the team yet. That journey is now beginning and I couldn't be happier! When's the last time we got the GUY other people wanted?
 
It is refreshing for once to not have to convince myself to believe that the team is taking the right approach or making a smart move.

This time, I KNOW in my heart we are headed in the right direction.

I dunno. I suspect Peters has in mind people he wants to join him. He rejected interviews last year. Since he was ready to make the jump this year I bet he did so with a plan of people he wants to join him. I suspect he will turnover most of the staff by the Super Bowl or shortly thereafter.
 
Peters is only 44 and was a psychology major at UCLA. ✅✅
 
After many years of being crowned king in the off-season with ridiculous signings this definitely feels different . Very exciting
 
It's been years since were even able to make the offseason playoffs, lol...

I think it depends on who they are the the level. From what I understand, scout contracts run through the draft. So, if he wants to grab scouts, that might take a while.

If he wants to elevate a scout to a Director of Player Personnel, I think he could do that.

My bet is he knows generally who he wants, but also has to get a chance to interview and evaluate the scouting staff in place. There are probably a mix of good and bad area scouts. He'll want to figure that out before he makes changes.

The leadership, I agree, will happen more quickly assuming he can mechanically do it based on contracts and league rules. The "staff" I think might take a while longer, just because of contracts and rules.

I reserve the right to be 100% wrong on all of this. It's just a guess.

I think my "hot take" is Mayhew stays through the draft and Hurney is out pretty much next week. I could be dead wrong about that too. But I have a hunch the reason Harris didn't purge Mayhew before is he knew he was targeting Peters and they had worked together for 4 years in San Fran, and probably got word somehow they worked together somewhat well.
 
I don’t have a definitive opinion on Mayhew beyond not wanting him to head the talent department. I wonder how different the recent draft and free agent acquisitions would have looked considering my belief that Rivera likely cock-blocked most, if not all, of anyone else‘s choices.

I also think that Mayhew would be open to staying as an AGM (it’s not like he is going to draw any other GM opportunities) and he has intimate institutional knowledge as to the other people in the department, which should offer some necessary insight going forward.

I have no hot take, but interestingly enough, I've heard from some of the local media guys that it's Hurney that Harris has heavily relied on this season (and who he trusts most for guidance), not Mayhew. I suspect though that Harris is going to let Adam Peters make those decisions. We'll see. Possible a lot of the 'meh' factor some Mayhew critics express is really more a reflection of Rivera never listening to him. I definitely got the vibe from Mayhew's post-draft comments last year that he tried to push Rivera in other directions but that Rivera made the calls mostly based on his own thoughts. If that's true, he may have more to offer than some fans realize.

When you've lost confidence in the grand poobah, it's hard to truly judge anyone under them. The effect Snyder had was immeasurable, the effect Rivera had on personnel is hard to truly quantify.
 
My feeling is - NFL franchises aren't not-for-profits. It's a tough business. If we aren't sure you're the answer, you aren't the answer.
 
Peters knows Mayhew very well.

Who knows, perhaps Mayhew wanted to take Herbert instead of Chase Young and is a better evaluator than we think.

Well, we know that Mayhew was pushing Ron to make moves in the 2nd and 3rd (I think they probably had one of the TEs or an OL in mind) and that Ron wasn't amenable. So there are probably more instances. But yeah, Peters knows him so if he does or doesn't retain him, that'll be a clear indication of what he thinks.
 
it all continues to come back where the final decision maker being a question mark has a ripple effect beyond what we can actually see... again, how can we truly analyze anything while we have such little confidence in the top dog?
 
Nothing good was ever going to come from Snyder's ownership.

Like several other franchises with owners that are toxic to others in the workplace from Bidwill in Arizona to the Adams fiasco in Tennessee, no one wants those jobs because they know in the end result the owner will exert influence on football decisions and then blame the front office people and coaches when those moves fail to pan out.
