Official 'It got blowed up what next?' Thread

The odds are out of the Williams, Maye, Daniels, Penix grouping TWO are going to be legit NFL quarterbacks of which one will be an all pro. Another one will be an NFL starter but not a star, perhaps a middle of the roader who plays his 9-10 years in the league.

Then you have the one that is going to be a complete bust - just the way Bryce Young looks now. Finishing a first year with horrible statistics and a support system little better than expansion team.

Part of the argument about the quarterback here is whether there is enough talent at the other skill positions to compete?

I bet if Washington was able to trade for Patrick Mahomes and improved the OL but kept the same running backs and wide receivers this offense would really start humming.

I suppose what I am saying is if we feel the need to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. because we don't have enough explosive plays, perhaps its because the quarterback and offensive coordinator are not that great at their jobs.
 
What I find amusing is the fans that say when we draft a new QB, we gotta make sure to support him and give him a better line,defense etc.

The one thing you see in the list of candidates the Commanders are interviewing and plan to interview is that they are relatively young and looking forward to their futures in the NFL.

I don't see any 65-70 year old coaches or GM candidates on that list.

That tells me the lesson of generating lesser returns by bringing in an older legend from somewhere else is in the front of the minds of this search committee.

Remember when Snyder was trying to coax Ron Wolf out of retirement at age 68 to be the team's GM and President?

All Snyder knew was the big names that had been visible in the NFL in recent seasons. He had no clue nor did anyone else in the organization about any of the younger coaches and personnel guys in the NFL that would have made great hires.
 
I wonder how New England and Seattle upset the rankings in terms of team favorability.

I imagine both are pretty well-esteemed franchises in football circles.

But neither one is set up very well currently. Seattle has had recent success, but it's been held together with duct tape and bubble gum.... New England has as many questions at the QB position as we do, and in both situations.... you're following the best Coach in franchise history....
 
Who wants to follow a legend? The job in New England seems perfectly suited to Vrabel who was a Patriot and Super Bowl winner with the franchise.

Others? The job may not be as attractive as fan expectations are still very high and no doubt Kraft is looking for a quick turnaround.

Unless they get a great quarterback at #3 I don't see that quick turnaround happening.

Seattle is a good spot. But the GM isn't leaving so that is a coaching only vacancy. Could Carroll's future role with the team be any murkier than described at the press conference? Boy, was that uncomfortable.
 
If true, mildly surprised they wouldn’t just grab Peters who is clearly the consensus strongest candidate this offseason. Could they be investigating a structure where Peters is Head of Football Ops and Cunningham is GM with both he and the HC reporting to Peters?
 
Harris better move quick because Peters has ties with New England who are reportedly also in hot pursuit. If we lose Peters because of some need for a 2nd interview, that could be a huge mistake.

For all we know, the handshake has already happened. 2nd interview could be terms.

Doubtful - unless they intend to hire both (and I think that’s a long shot)
 
Maybe Peters and Cunningham are interviewing elsewhere so they are covering their bases?
 
They are both well regarded in the league. Good to be attached to 2 top names.
 
I wouldn’t be surprised if they double their pleasure, double their fun.

Peters as POFO and Cunningham as GM.
 
First time I’ve heard the term President of Football Operations used.

 
Figuring they believe they have their analytics expert in Shen so that might reduce the appeal of Halaby.
