Official 'It got blowed up what next?' Thread

I know that Harris said this will go quickly. Most are saying within a week to have a Football Operations guy in place. With all the names popping up I would not be surprised if it goes slightly longer. If Adam Peters wows them, sure it could happen in a few days.

Who else is feeling impatient? I know we shouldn't be hearing how the various meetings went yesterday, but I want news dang it (laughing at myself)

I’m glad there weren’t beat reporters camped outside the park reporting on the cars coming and going, and people freaking out when ‘we let a guy leave town’. Adults are actually running this thing

The Chargers job is continually brought up by NFL talking heads because of Herbert but the owner Dean Spanos is another mercurial owner who is inconsistent in his support for the team in resigning key players before free agency and making GOOD trades to improve the roster.

He has had Herbert for 4 years and so far the Chargers haven't done much. With an older group of players taking up a lot of cap space in 2024 (Chargers are $38M over cap right now) it's possible Herbert is playing without Allen and Williams in 2024.

So, I don't know how attractive that job is to a GM candidates in dealing with Spanos. He seems cut from the Bidwill cloth.

I’m the same way. We are only 48 hours post firings, yet I keep looking for more and more news.

These candidates are going to take 2 or 3 interviews to see what terms are out there. Unless a guy is blown away with the role AND the salary I doubt you see a commitment this early. My guess is after this weekend's games and into next week when the first dominos start to fall.

agreed, which is another massive example of how to properly run a business. We're not throwing stupid money, or power, at people simply to keep them in the building.

My gut is trending toward it being Adam Peters. Apparently he's got a strong relationship with Bob Myers, he was literally the first person they brought in, and he's denied interview requests in the past... but not now.

I've been thinking the exact same thing.

Yeah, I wonder if after today's interviews (Cunningham and Halaby) -- we'll hear news about a hire sometime this week?? Then once the GM-type side is hired - with that new hire, they focus on the head coach.

The buzz, such as there is, seems to be Peters and Ben Johnson. Heard Keim say that on Sheehan yesterday. Not a prediction but a feeling based on the prevailing winds.

I could definitely live with that.

Well I hope that the Ben Johnson decision was made with the inclusion of Peters then.

i have no problem with the head brass interviewing potential HCs, but more with the idea that when the new head of Football Ops is in place, they already have some experience with whoever that guy taps as the top candidates... I don't want harris and Co being the ones to hire that guy if at all possible.

If we believe what Harris said in the press conference, I'm pretty sure even if the Harris Group: Harris, Magic, Spielman, and Myers have their heart set on Johnson I don't think they sign him without letting the new GM and him meet to see how they might work together. Meaning the new GM might not choose the head coach, but would get to give his input and probably veto power.

Mind you, I'm sure part of the GM interview is asking who is on their short list of head coaching candidates, why, and how they see the relationship.

It would be funny though if Slowick signs elsewhere though.

It'd be like everyone gets a Redskins Shanny coach but the Redskins.

And that's the real key for me ... I've found it strange that "the lists" of potential candidates being floated include both GM and HC. I'd have felt a bit more solid if all the talk at this point was exclusively GM's. But I'm not going to borrow trouble. Harris has made it clear he favors a structure where personnel and coaching are distinct concerns and is proceeding with that in mind. I've had no reason to question Harris' word on stuff to this point, so I won't.

But I'm watching.

They have to do a dual track because those coaching candidates are going to be snatched up quick. I can’t imagine they’ll impose a HC on a new GM but it will be more of a ‘here’s what we’re thinking’ negotiation/discussion. As Harris said, it’s not ‘ideal’ but I think it’ll get figured out.

More important now for us than then. You know he knew 2 weeks ago.
