Jonesing for Jacoby

If the team scores touchdowns on each drive for both of the final 2 games, could Jacoby win MVP? Or at least get a new contract with Washington?

I love snarky Keim.

It was probably the right move to bench Howell just to protect him from himself.

But playing a vet journeyman QB in a lost season is SO Rivera. What's the point really?

I will say, I'd be in favor of bringing him back as a backup in most circumstances. Assuming we don't blow it and win a game, we're almost assuradly drafting a QB to start somehow in the draft. You want a good mentor for that person, and Jacoby would be that. And you might want him to start a few games.

Sadly, that might mean Sam's the odd man out. I think he'll still be around, because he has a 5th round contract.

My goodness if the last 3-4 weeks haven't almost entirely sunk his career. That happened fast.

I hear that, but I also get it from Rivera's side.

RIvera's job as coach is always to win games. Rivera's job as GM/President is to look out for the long term wellbeing of the team. This tension is probably the biggest reason why so many coach/GMs fail. The coach needs to be near sighted. The GM far sighted.

Further, Rivera is about to be fired. And knows it. So his attention is not in putting the organization into the best position for next year.

If he wasn't going to be fired, he might think differently.

I'd argue though that both coach and GM have to be on the same page and understand how to win in the short term while building for the future OR knowing when they have to go all-in.

The Rams had a window, and they went all in for the "right now." They won a SB and now they're suffering through cap hell, no draft picks, and a young roster. So they'll re-set and re-build. But the GM and coach were on the same page for going for it. And it worked out.

If the GM is focused on next year and the coach says he can't win this year, the coach is going to get fired if they lose in the short term too much.

This is why I am a HUGE proponent the GM and Coach are on the same level on the org chart and if one goes, they both go.

This is all about the growth of Jacoby Brissett. Sometimes, you got to throw the back up in off the bench to make sure of where he is in his development.
I believe that fellas....I really do.

I hope Rivera hits his head on his way out of the facility when he's fired.

And the development. You forgot the development.

I 100% think Bieniemy was the one pulling this trigger, as he is on the verge of HC opportunities, with an offense that has been less than stellar. It's very possible he was the one pining for Brissett, simply to get a couple games of better production on film to add to the Resume.

That's possible. I think it was probably both of them basically at the same time. I mean, it's pretty obvious. They needed to make the switch because Sam is heading into permanent damage mode to his psyche and his health.

Certainly, if EB gets a good game or two it helps his case in interviews. HOWEVER, on the flip side, it hurts his case in the "I can develop a young QB" part of the interview.

I actually think if there is a HC job which would be a good fit for EB, it would be the Chargers job. He's got the QB, he knows that division. Hell, a million years ago he played for the Chargers. I don't think you want him trying to develop a young QB. But if the QB is already in place, it might work.

I doubt he gets a HC job. But if there are 10 available, some folks who probably shouldn't get a job will.

Yeah I think the team to watch will be whichever one (if any) snag up Mike Borgonzi (currently Asst GM for the Chiefs). I could see that relationship being re-ignited in an attempt to create Chiefs lite in another city.

Maybe, Poles in Chicago was on the KC staff, and didn't even interview EB when he got the GM job in Chicago.

Which was really weird. Though there are some rumblings he's interested in EB now.

It's unclear what EB's reputation in the Chief's building was. Clearly Mahomes, Kelce and Reid all really appreciated him. But his antics might have worn thin on others.

I think there's an even money chance he goes back to the Chiefs. He might be most valuable to them.

The Kansas City play by play guy on WFAN indicated that the Chiefs offense IS suffering from the loss of Eric.

This year the Chiefs are depending upon younger, less experienced receivers and their focus and attention to detail has been criticized heavily for the drops, fumbles and missed assignments.

He indicated KC could definitely use Eric's discipline and organizational skills back in the building.

Brissett is a 32 year old journeyman. He has had his moments in the NFL but is not a building block.

I think the outcome of these last two games is going to be what it is regardless of who is under center.

We thought Howell was challenged enough WITH Robinson, Larsen, Wylie, etc. starting on offense.

Now we are going with THEIR backups.

The Washington offensive line as is vs. the SF defensive front is one of the worst matchups in any game in the NFL this season.

Odd how all that Bienemy discipline hasn’t helped Washington’s line, WRs, TEs, and RBs. Must be geographically-dependent? Theres a reason KC was bending over backwards to find Bienemy a new home and it wasn’t because he was so invaluable they felt guilty holding onto him while teams like Washington could use him :)

Jacoby is on the injury report and questionable as of today

I don’t think EB is responsible for linemen that can’t block, receivers that don’t get open against good corners and a defense guaranteed to give up 30 plus points a game.

Didn’t you just KNOW the Jets were going to win that game down 28-27?

There was no way Washington was going to shut them down and get a turnover or final play sack to make all that work stand up.

I'll push back just a little Bulldog.

Bieniemy was sitting in the draft room last April and went along with what Ron had on OL.

If that had been one of us here at BGO, we'd have raised hell....

Still, it’s Rivera and Mayhew’s responsibility to pick the players.

Did anyone blame Scott Turner for poor picks on the OL in draft and free agency?

I just don’t think you can take a guy coming in as a coordinator and put HC or GM level responsibilities at his feet.

You don't think the OC would be responsible if a guy like Terry McLaurin can't get open? I would disagree with that.

I also think if you have a young, inexperienced QB, a questionable line, a lousy defense and a big, fast, bruising downhill RB, the LAST thing you do is lead the league in pass attempts. I mean, that's literally the very last thing I would consider doing.

However, if you want to take a first-year starting QB and make him punch-drunk in half a season, you do exactly what Bienemy did.

No, I agree the strategy employed seemed to be flawed given Howell’s lack of experience and the less than stellar line in pass protection.

As Buffalo has learned in recent weeks a stronger running game with James Cook has helped Josh Allen regain his form and cut down on turnovers.

Brian Robinson is a very good back and was underutilized for most of the season here.

It also would have helped if the team had signed a veteran tight end to act as a safety valve for Sam.

Not a big trade or signing but a mid-tier guy that can catch.
