The NFL trade deadline is Oct 31st (insert obligator Halloween/scary joke here).

The biggest name I continue to see regarding a possible trade is Kirk Cousins. The Vikes are 1-4 so far this year and just put their best player, Justin Jefferson, on IR for at least 4 weeks with a hamstring issue. The offense has been averaging 22 points a game WITH Jefferson. Gotta think that is going to drop without him.

Granted, their opponents through 5 weeks are a collective 15-9 which jumps to a gaudy 15-4 when you remove the 0-5 Panthers who represent the Vikes only win this season - a fairly unimpressive 21-13 affair in week 4. Their list of opponents includes 3 Division leaders and both of last year's Super Bowl teams, so it isn't like they are playing losers.

Even though it is early in the season, you have to consider that they are tied with the Bears for last in the Division (yes...those Bears) and behind even Washington in the Wild Card chase.

Cousins is worth real draft capital at this point and taking him off the Vikes roster likely puts them in the running for the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.

Do you trade him?

If i'm Minnesota, i absolutely do it, but I have always had an aggressive trade mentality... one that doesn't necessarily align with the reality of how business is 'done' in the NFL.

I say the same thing about Chase Young, and other players on our team. If the team is not in a position to make a realistic run at the playoffs, I would move ANY piece that's not gonna be back next year in favor of getting players or draft capital that will be with the team long term.

If that front office has decided to move on from Kirk (which I believe they have), why keep him there just to muster out an additional 2 or 3 wins in a season where it's unlikely you win more than 6 anyway?

The real question is what teams are willing to trade for him? Most teams are entrenched with their QB's for better or worse. Capt stats doesn't strike me as the missing piece for any potential contender at this point.

Jets or Colts right now. Anything could happen tomorrow to add a team to the list, unless you're sold on Wilson.

I cant see a scenario where the Jets would give up more draft capital after the Rodgers trade knowing Cousins is a rental before free agency. The Colts, eh, they drafted their potential future as mirky as that is and why waste picks if you think you can snag Cousins in FA. Colts aren't a contender to be that risky of a roll in the dice imo. Also , capt stats has a no trade clause so doubtful he bounces this year if it's not a stellar team or if he knows they'll feed his greed for mediocrity with stats.

you're not wrong

I went back and reviewed the Russell Wilson contract because I think Cousins style of play would work well in Payton's offense but Denver can't realistically do anything without crushing their cap until 2025. The Cowboys are stuck with Dak until 2024, the Rams are stuck with an aging and hurting Stafford until 2025 although if he manages to return to form that's moot. It'll be interesting to see his FA suitors as it was reported yesterday Cousins will not waive his no trade clause period.

Cousins help his team out? That’ll be the day.

I don’t think Kirk would agree to be traded in season. But if he were open to it I think Atlanta would be a candidate. That’s a very talented team in a winnable division but Ridder is not it.

Jets no. If Super Bowl is the goal, everyone in the league knows Kirk is a 1pm only QB. A late afternoon or night game is the equivalent of disaster. And they might not have cap to get Cousins anyway.

I agree about Kirk in big games, but you can easily look back at QBs over history who had the same knock on them til they didn’t… no, he’s not Peyton Manning or John Elway, but coaches could try to find ways to convince themselves otherwise. Caps can be flexed and managed too.

That said, I agree it’s very unlikely that it happens
