John Keim’s 53 looks like he copy and pasted mine. 🤣

Unfortunately I made the rookie error of keeping Jonathan Williams over KJ Henry, not taking into account that the Rivera regime never cuts draft picks. Oy. But to be fair, Keim had an extra week to work with.

Tomorrow’s roster will not be the same by game 1. It will be interesting to see the machinations.

From what has been whispered neither Henry nor Daniels deserve a roster spot.

I haven't heard any positives on Daniels but I actually thought some folks thought Henry could make the 53? I am not expecting many surprises though because we have so many 'sure things' to make the roster. There probably aren't more than 2-3 spots even in question in any way...

Yeah, I'm sure one or both will make it, but I'd rather someone like Mo Brooks who surprised in practices and on the field made it vs. someone who made simply because of draft status/potential. Mind you, I do like the deep depth to be about potential so if you really think Daniels with a year in the weight room can become a starter or that the lightbulb is about to go on for Henry then that's a different story.

100% agree. If Daniels, as a 4th rounder, can't earn the roster as at least in terms of OL depth with the guys we came into this offseason with, that is absolutely a blown pick. It also would make me even angrier that we waited until the 3rd and 4th rounds when most of the OL talent was gone to try and beef up that unit.

I would not include either of the two except for their draft status. Hell, I only kept Daniels because he was a 4th and cut Henry who was a 5th. I feel bad for those who lose their jobs only for that reason.

According to BGO Oracle, 60-70% of 4th rounders make an NFL roster, while 50-60% of 5th rounders have historically. So if either of those guys are cuts, that is underperforming.

They should both invest in some bubble wrap in case they slip in the shower or something and find themselves on IR.

Danny Johnson can't play cornerback. Yes, he's a 100% effort guy and capable special teamer but with the injuries Kendall Fuller has had and the size of Forbes transitioning to the NFL at 173 pounds I think we need to focus on the best set of corners that can play a role in the passing game if needed.

Jeremy Reaves played better at safety when he had to get on the field as an emergency sub over the past couple of years and I think you anchor special teams with him.

Coaches should be able to get production on special teams from a relatively youthful roster with a lot of guys that have to prove themselves.

If not, we have the wrong coaches.

Jarret Patterson and Marcus Kemp among the early notable cuts today...

Almost feels like this was the alternative to releasing him but they didn't want to have to admit he's nowhere near ready to play against NFL opposition.

Absolutely. They didn’t want to have to admit that they made a poor 4th round selection decision.

Daniels was an uninspired pick. Said so at the time based on the bio I read. There seemed to be too many players with significant upside left on the board - this guy looked to be a #6 or #7 pick.

Again, I think Washington overdrafted here.

I'm going to keep going back to the Quan Martin pick. While I hope the kid proves me to be massively wrong, in my opinion, you just don't pass on IOL players in the second round that could have legitimately been here starting for the next eight to ten years. That's the type of players John Michael Schmitz and O'Cyrus Torrence were being touted as. Currently, I don't see one OL on our team that you can say with confidence will be a long term starter in DC. You make one of those two selections in round 2 and you avoid reaching for a guy like Daniels all together.

If Chase Young and/or Montez Sweat leave in free agency we are going to need a helluva lot more at DE in the draft or via trade than KJ Henry and Andre Jones Jr :aargh4:

I said it at the time - when they went DB back to back with the first 2 picks, I think Rivera felt they HAD to go OL with the next couple picks to dampen criticism and expected uproar (knowing the fanbase was screaming bloody murder after the Martin pick).

That’s a terrible position to put yourself in when you have effectively hemmed yourself into taking whatever OL player is available. You can’t tell me that either Stromberg or Daniels were the best talents available where they were chosen.
