You need more than 3 tight ends for a couple of reasons.

First, Logan Thomas is oft-injured and out again on week to week designation.

Second, tight end is a very important position for Andy Reid's offenses since his days in Philly and that is the system Bieniemy is installing.

My guess is the team does WITHOUT a true fullback and carries a fourth TE that can come in and play FB on short yardage plays.

I think that Armah will be used at TE (especially for blocking) as well as FB. Plus, Hodges (the current day 50/50) will most likely be put on the PS and available for call up if needed.

Honestly, I'd keep the returner udfa rookie (can't remember his name. The speedy little guy.) over Milne. Milne has good hands, but he's such a waste on returns. I have a soft spot for Patterson. I doubt he makes it, but he's one of those players who always does better than he should. From everything I've heard Daniels should be on the practice squad. I kinda hope that happens and they either keep someone who out performed him or grab a tackle after cuts off another team.

I chose Milne for two reasons: (1) that he knows all three receiver positions and is reliable in the offense which adds value over Kaz Allen & (2) camp reports (Keim) have stated regularly that Allen needs a ton of work beyond returning and is not currently near skilled enough in route running.

Milne, though clearly not a dynamic returner, is competent in the offense and reliable fielding kicks.

Now if Allen has a big night vs the Bengals…

I think you make a good point. The question I have is whether you value competence over potential for that last roster spot? Do you value someone who does something really well over someone who does well at a bunch of stuff.

Yours is probably the smarter position, but there’s part of me that thinks of punt returner as a starter quality role and because of that I want someone dynamic there. Is Allen good enough at the one skill is my only question.

I think the one aspect we may be missing here is that it's unlikely Ron Rivera decides who is on the final offensive roster.

Eric Bienemy will decide that. And I'm not sure he is wed to any of the guys on the bubble the way the folks who brought them in might be.

Doesn't mean you are wrong Chris - I've also said that I don't believe they'll keep a guy based on being an upgrade at returner alone. That guy will have to be one of the best 6 or 7 WRs and I don't think that describes Allen at this point. But gambling on some younger guys with higher ceilings is more likely with a new OC trying to prove himself than it would've been in previous seasons.

Very valid, John. I wonder if Kacsor has input into it and if Bieniemy sees a role for Allen outside of teams? Kaz could go off on Saturday and make the 53.

Reports came out yesterday Milne is nursing a groin injury. Not sure if that effects anyone’s predictions

That was Ron speaking before practice, Milne then practiced. Initially I thought it might be setting up for a short-term IR gambit. I guess not.

Chris, your Milne selection is looking more and more accurate. Kaz Allen had about as bad a performance one could have against the Bengals. I feel for these fringe players as they fight to achieve their dreams, but he certainly did himself zero favours tonight.

Here's my prediction... I only have 3 OTs because I think we add a guy prior to week 1 who gets cut from another squad.

I think that is a distinct possibility. However, I don’t think a Rivera coached Washington team has ever cut a 4th round draft pick. That alone could keep Daniels on the 53.

Yeah I noticed after I posted but had to run out for my daughters bday. I’m gonna change it tonight

For some reason, I see Danny Johnson getting cut. He’s a survivor, but I think his time may run out.
