Why RFK?

If it lines their pockets you best believe they will get it done!!
 
Watch ...... With Dan out of the picture I would be willing to bet this gains a lot of traction. It was a nonstarter with him at the helm
 
I was listening to someone break this down, and apparently this is not ONLY about building a stadium. It's about extending DC's ability to 'control' the land beyond it's current agreement which only has something like 12 years left on the agreement. This would allow DC to do whatever they want with it for the foreseeable future.

I agree though... I think a stadium at the RFK site was not an option as long as Snyder was the owner.

I think there have been a lot of barriers - starting with the idiot political leadership in DC. Other than sentimental reasons, I don't think that site makes much sense, but it probably is the most likely.
 
The name change has a lot to do with it, too.

I'm fairly confident the front office and powers that be won't care if we want to go back to RFK. They'll put it to a vote and then choose the lowest one

as well as the one that makes the most money.
 
I have great memories of RFK as I'm sure many of you do, but rebuilding on that site wouldn't necessarily excite me. The land doesn't hold any special memories for me (except for a memory of playing sardine in the Metro elevator). My nostalgia is keyed to the bouncing of the bleachers, the games won, the cohesiveness and energy of the fan base, and just every stranger feeling like a member of the family.

A brand new stadium would not necessarily hold any of those. I mean there were very good reasons why the Redskins left RFK when they did. The stadium was small, it was showing its age, and lacked the amenities of modern stadiums.

So, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a new stadium built on the bones of RFK, but I hold no illusion that stepping onto the ramparts there would transport me back to the feel of the place in the '80's. Love of a place and the culture of a place needs to be built over time.

To be honest, I have fond memories of Fed Ex Field, too, but that's because I associate it with tailgating with Huly, Pez, and the guys. I did sometimes find the sightlines tough at Fed Ex, but I never had a bad experience there. In disclosure, it may be more than five years since I last went and I rarely drink or eat concessions much inside the stadium. I do remember horrendous bathroom lines, but I figure that's the nature of the beast.
 
I have felt for a long time that the bulk of Redskins fans have always been in Virginia and that having had a stadium in DC and one in MD, it’s time for Virginia to get their turn.
 
Being a Marylander, that would be a pain, but the truth is that as someone who takes the Metro to the game, it might be quicker to get to Virginia :)

I think I used to estimate 90 minutes from when I entered the metro station 'til I reached the stadium.
 



This doesn't 'mean' anything but it's a big first step.
