I'm not sure we can solve this by a 'rule' now that I'm looking at it more closely. KJ Henry is listed by the team on their website as 'Edge' and is also listed by the team as 'Defensive End' in PR releases. It may have to be left up to CH to rule on whether someone gets points for 'position' correct calls.

I agree with this, John. With more guys seemingly this year being tabbed as flex positions, it leaves things a bit muddy when it comes time to assigning positional points. I ran into that problem with Brian Branch as an example. I had him picked for my Washington first rounder. I didn't give myself positional points for the selection of Emmanuel Forbes, as I saw Branch listed as a Safety. But depending on where you look, you do see him listed as "DB", and many of the pundits say he is going to be a Nickel Corner. It becomes an inexact science in some regards unfortunately. I think we may just have to consider picking one resource and say we are going to go with their positional assignments for future years for purposes of point assignment at draft time.

I am open to any and all suggestions as this thing evolves. I really do like the contest and it is fun to play, but we are definitely seeing this season that it will need a bit of tweaking to get it just right.

well DP had us taking an RB in the 6th according my sheet, but the calculator didn't include those points for him.

I saw that as well. You have to manually give the points in those instances. It's not a problem though as long as we are aware of it.

It's all good, part of any new contest, and as you said, it's complicated when it comes to the draft. I think we have to go with the team's official statement. If they are less than consistent (as in one of the examples I gave), you can make a judgment call probably erring on the side of generosity.

The position issue could also arise with DBs who may have played CB in college but project to S in the NFL, or when a player is listed as a 'Defensive Back' by the team or NFL.

Same thing with OT / OG / OC

When i was looking personally i broke it out from OT / IOL. OG and OC fell under IOL

More points is always a good thing. Going DB opens up A LOT of points.

I like Paul's idea here of going with a "single source of truth" as far as how players' positions are labeled. We should settle on a single site and publicize that as the place to get positional classification for each player, then just ignore what is said in the broadcasts.

That’s what I thought Bob until I noticed that both the NFL.com and Commanders websites used multiple position labels for players. So it’s not that simple. We could go with how the team announces a player on the actual broadcast - I mean, that should be as good as anything, right?

And I'll go with the consensus on it if that is the choice but that feels almost revisionist because we get that information after the pick is made. I mean, we have zero insight into how the team sees a guy ahead of picking him so that is tough to forecast. Personally, I'd rather go with pre-draft labels and call it good.

Maybe we use NFL Combine position groupings? I think those are broader - like DB rather than CB or S? Am I right on that?
