With April officially here, the anticipation for the start of the 2023 NFL Draft will continue to grow. What will the Washington Commanders do in the draft? Are we going to target a lockdown Corner, or will we address other positions of need like Offensive Tackle, Guard, or Linebacker in the early rounds? Are we going to trade up, trade down, or stay put at #16? Will we go completely off the board and make head scratching choices that nobody anticipated? The element of the unknown is part of what makes the NFL Draft so intriguing and fun.

If putting your feet up from Thursday through Saturday while watching the draft wasn't appealing enough for you, BGO is going to add even more fun to the NFL Draft festivities!

For the 3rd consecutive year, we are back with the BGO "On The Clock" Draft Pool. This is your chance to show your draft expertise and prove that you know better than everyone else here at BGO when it comes to the Commanders. It is also your opportunity to unseat Om as the defending champion. Winner prizes will be available if you need more incentive.

How The BGO Draft Pool Works/Scoring Rules:

1) Guess who you think the Commanders will pick with each of its current selections in the 2023 NFL Draft (assume no trade scenarios).
2) Earn 10 points for every player selected by the WFT that you guessed correctly.
3) Earn an additional 5 points for every player guessed correctly if you identified the correct round he was chosen in by the Commanders.
4) Earn 3 points if your pick for a round was incorrect, but your pick still matches the position selected by the Commanders in that round.
5) Earn 2 points if your pick for a round was incorrect, but your pick still matches the round the player was chosen in by another NFL team.
5) The participant with the highest accumulated number of points will be declared the 3rd Annual BGO "On The Clock" Draft Pool winner and receive a 1st place prize. 🏆

Tiebreakers:

The following will be used in the event of a tie for first place between two or more participants:

a) Tiebreaker 1: Indicate how many trades there will be in total in the entire 2023 NFL Draft (league-wide).

Deadlines:

Have your Commanders draft choice predictions and tiebreaker posted by 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Thursday, April 27th, 2023. At that time, all selections will be noted and no further changes can be made to your predictions.

Note:

When making your picks, please post your choices clearly by indicating the Round #, Pick #, Player Name, and Position.

For your reference, the Commanders picks are:

Round 1, Pick 16
Round 2, Pick 47
Round 3, Pick 97
Round 4, Pick 118
Round 5, Pick 150
Round 6, Pick 193
Round 6, Pick 215
Round 7, Pick 233

* If any of these picks change due to trades leading up to the start of the draft, we will update accordingly.

We hope to have as much participation as possible! If you aren't a draft guy, remember, your guesses are as good as anybody else's. Many of us spent a lot of time learning about the draft prospects a year ago and still didn't get a single Commanders pick right in the whole draft! There are a lot of mock draft simulators online that can familiarize you with the players and where they are generally projected to be taken in the draft. Also, be sure to check out some of the upcoming BGO Blind Pig draft podcasts, as they will help familiarize you with who is going to be available. There is lots of time to prepare and learn still! Get drafting and have fun, armchair GMs!

I think the sites I use, I get the same first 3 picks.

I used https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/mock-draft-simulator then picked the players, I ran a computer mock on pro football network and the results to me seemed nuttier than what I could come up with the team taking three CB's. It's all a proverbial crap shoot, I do wish some of the trade offers were real though, teams were willing to give up a kings ransom for number pick 47.

That's the thing, you can/t expect to bat .1000 so you could take a CB in EVERY round and you still stand a chance at getting 1 of them right, which could win the whole joint.

I won the first year we did this and almost all my points were because I picked us to take Jamin Davis if i'm remembering correctly. You nail 1 pick and it's a HUGE jump on the fest of the predictions

The trades on some of these mock draft sites are insane. I was getting 5 picks to move down 6 or 7 spots in the first round. Then in like the 5th round, to move down 1 spot, I got 3 more 7th round picks. I pretty much have to just reject all trades, because I could easily end up with 12 picks this year and 15 next year.

I think you had Jamin going in Rd 1 which gave you a big lead, I had him in the 2nd but still had some good points. And sure a team could scale their chances at a particular position by drafting heavily for it but I just find it unlikely at best considering roster turnover every year and multiple positions being of desire.

If Broderick Jones is there at 16 I'd be ecstatic, however I think the Jets or Pats take him ahead of us

Certainly possible. My thinking is that there will be at least 3, maybe more QBs selected before our pick at 16. I also think a lot of Edge Rushers go before that spot. And possibly CBs that go early as well. That’s going to result in someone very good dropping to us. That could be a top OL or LB, or even a CB if they don’t go early. Someone surprising is going to be there at 16.

I see no way that Christian Gonzales is not the 1st CB selected. I’m not a fan of Joey Porter Jr. I would love a ball hawk at corner since St. Juste is already a big, reliable corner. Give me someone with some juice to take the ball away as a compliment to him. Emanuel Forbes is certainly slight of build but he has thrived in the SEC, a conference loaded with NFL talent. As we already know, Devonta Smith is too skinny for pro ball. 😉

The problem is that he is most likely a stretch pick at 16 and should be gone before 47.

I see Carolina, Houston, Indy , Atlanta all taking QB's with a potential surprise by Tennessee if there's someone they love with Tannehill getting long in the tooth. So it could happen that Jones is there at 16, Seattle needs defensive line help so there's another team out of the OL game, Vegas is a potential OL, HOU 2nd 1st rounder could go OL, hell maybe GB goes OL. What does all this mean, nothing until we see Palpatine read off the names on the 27th.

I think I’m gonna have to re do mine

Derek, you have until 6:00 pm the night of the draft to redo your picks as often as you want!

I will probably rethink mine through 85 times as well between now and then. I think I sat at my computer for almost 2 hours last night taking this way too seriously before finally submitting my picks.

If there is one thing I am 100% sure of at this point in putting together my draft prediction it's that I'm not sure of anything.

The consensus guy for Washington at #16 is Porter, which means I don't think it will happen.

I've seen guys most expect to go in the top 10 fall to 16 in nearly every mock - names like Witherspoon, Levis, and Johnson.

The rankings over on NFL.com are crazy different from most other places. One mock has Kincaid ranked as the 16th best player in the draft and us taking him at #16.

This might be one of the most unpredictable drafts in years.
